Beauty and the Beast - what's the difference?

Between:

Beauty and the Beast (Three-Disc Diamond Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo in DVD Packaging) (1991)

and

Beauty and the Beast (Three-Disc Diamond Edition Blu-ray/DVD Combo in Blu-ray Packaging) (1991)

I get it, it's the packaging, but what does that mean? The content is the same, right?

Good question!! Are the prices the same for both types? Maybe they can charge extra for the "blu ray" packaging??

Despite that, I'm still super excited about the re-release!

I believe the difference is packaging only. One is packaged as a DVD w/bonus blu-ray and the other is package as a Blu-Ray w/bonus DVD. Some people get into packaging I think.

I also believe on of them tells you (the 18.00 one perhaps), if you upgrade to Blu Ray you save money... so what you have to do is basically, turn in your VHS copy or DVD copy of Beauty and the Beast and you get the Blu-Ray/DVD Combo for 10 or so dollars off.

If you are planning on using a Disney Movie Rewards coupon, it's only good on the Blu-Ray with free DVD (Not the DVD with free Blu-Ray) for some reason.

Yes, the only difference is the packaging - the larger standard DVD case or the slimmer blu-ray case. They did this with the Toy Story DVD/blu-ray release earlier this year as well (I ended up with Toy Story 1 with the blu-ray package and Toy Store 2 in the DVD packaging).

You are right -- those of us who have been into Blu-ray for the past few years really like the way our Blu-ray packages looks on the shelf -- plus, they're not quite as tall as traditional DVD packaging, which can be issue for some.

But then again, there are those who are buying the DVD/Blu-ray combo with no interest in Blu-ray, at this time -- the packaging is meant to be that way, so these could display with the rest of their Disney DVD's in the same, uniform way.

I'm not 100% sure on that -- when WALL-E came-out a few years ago, I bought the DVD and found a coupon inside the package for $10.00 off the the Blu-ray version.

Of course, that was before Disney was doing the combo packs and internet coupons. It's been a real game-changer for many who were originally undecided about Blu-ray.

Great, thanks for confusing me more. I thought the special features were on both in the Platinum combined package. I haven't moved to blu-ray yet, probably will some time in the future, which is why I didn't mind paying extra for the combined package.

LOL. I thought the same thing you did. I thought if I bought the DVD with Blu-Ray I would be able to see the special features on my DVD player but that wasn't the case. The special features are still on the Blu-Ray Disc, just the movie itself is on a DVD disc. I will probably end up buying the DVD only version when it comes out so I can see special features since I don't plan on upgrading to a Blu-Ray player any time soon.

If the difference is just the packaging, the size of the case is different. Blue ray cases are shorter than DVD cases

In my view people go for Blu-Ray movies to have even more clarity of video picture and sound over normal DVD to get complete fun of movie.

Honestly, this is one of the more annoying little things Disney has been doing, and it makes m paranoid that I'm ordering the wrong thing each time I pre-order something off Amazon or whatever.

The difference, as others have beat me to, is simply the size (sometimes the cover art as well) of the box. It's offered for folks who would like their DVDs/Blue-Rays lined up neatly in a row. This from the same company who insisted on sticking with those awful "clamshell" boxes for so long.
