Inching My Way Closer to the Castle Final thoughts/future trips 4/2p90 The End 4/4p92

Woo hoo! Fabulous room pics Jen! That shelf cast a shadow the shape of the contemporary! How funny is that?!

There is no way I would like the bathroom sink in the kitchenette! Ick!

I'm wondering how DH and I are going to like our 1 bedroom next week!

That is a lot of vultures! In the few times that we've stayed at WL I can tell you there are always a lot of birds over what used to be Discovery Island! We even saw a Bald Eagle that came from that direction and flew right over us standing at the boat dock! It was very cool!

Take a look at the "night stand" between the bed and the couch.
9-10_WDW_79.jpg

There was enough room for the hotel phone, a pen, and the little pad of paper they give you. Once I plugged my phone charger in beneath it and put my phone up there, there was NO room for anything else! And the couch was completely flush with the "night stand"; MEK could have reached over and tapped me in the bed to tell me to stop snoring if she wanted to, and never left the couch!

There is no way 4 people could stay in this room. Especially with that galley vanity/kitchenette arrangement. That would be a nightmare. From what I read in my Disney Files magazine, they are going to be fixing some of that. Putting the bathroom vanity/sink *in* the bathromm (there's a novel concept), fixing the gap in the goofy sliding bathroom door, and adding a lock to it. Not that it needs a lock because good luck getting the thing open to begin with; it's rather particular about which direction you pull. I kept telling Mary Ellen I would like to see a 1 bedroom at BLT but all you have to do is stand on the walkway and look into the rooms because there are no sheers on these rooms. That's right, no sheers; DH would not do well with that, I'm sure he'd be unintenionally streaking in front of the MK every day.

No Sheers????????????

OK honestly, that makes me not want to stay at BLT at all. That would freak me out.

OMG - You will love it! Stayed there in June 09 in a 2BR and it was gorgeous!!!!!!! I like the AKL/kidani theming better than any of the other DVC resorts! Seriously - it just really appeals to me. I loved the furniture, the bedding, the bathrooms, and all the details. Plus there is beautiful artwork all over the place in the lobby and on the walls outside of Sanaa (which, by the way, is awesome).

Look at my siggie and you will see a link to Kickin Back at Kidani. I took a ton of pictures of the resort!

Thanks for those pictures! :thumbsup2 It looks beautiful! Can't wait!! :yay:

What a great view. I would enjoy looking off a balcony at Cinderella's castle.

The bathroom sink in the kitchen?! That does sound very odd. I hope that is one of the things Disney is fixing.

Elwww I am not digging that bathroom sink situation. I mean everyone sat around and agreed that it would be a good idea to do that?!! :confused3 And while we are at it lets not put any sheers on the windows...

That is okay though because I am still going to stay there!!:rotfl:

Mentioning the curved building reminded me of something that was on the news in Vegas a couple of weeks ago. There is a new hotel/casino that is curved & all the windows are of a sort of mirror finish. Well, it seems that at the curve the sun reflects onto a space by the pool. The rays collected set plastic bags, etc. on fire! :scared1: The guests call it the Death Ray! The management knew about this problem & thought that it was fixed. They call it a Solar Convergensce. The news people were cracking up! :rotfl:

The room did seem small, like a college dorm! The view almost makes up for the smallness, but that bathroom sink in the kitchenette was not so nice.:crazy2:

Love the BLT room pics! It is very small though, it looks about the size of a room at the All Stars!

Of course, you don't get that view at the All Stars! :cool1:

Enjoying your report immensely! We had our first BLT stay (1BR) in Sept., and will be squeezing into the Studio in a couple of weeks. We were on the 5th floor, which was great for walking over to the Contemporary. The views were stunning -- we spent a lot of very enjoyable time just relaxing and looking out over Bay Lake.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: Jen - you are completely cracking me up with this! Especially the "good luck" getting the sliding bathroom door open. Most of the time the door wouldn't start to move and I would keep pulling and pulling until it would all of a sudden give and then I was afraid I was going to fall at crack my head on the tub or the floor. I think I got rougher with that door the more I used it.

Woo hoo! Fabulous room pics Jen! That shelf cast a shadow the shape of the contemporary! How funny is that?!

Yeah Melissa - you figured it out. I had to ask Jen what it was and then I said' "Doh!"

There is no way I would like the bathroom sink in the kitchenette! Ick!

It bothered me every time I dried my hair because my hair falls out a lot. I kept thinking I hope I don"t find a hair in my coffee the next time I make some.

I'm wondering how DH and I are going to like our 1 bedroom next week!

I think you will love it! A 1BR will be awesome. I think it even has two bathrooms!

That is a lot of vultures! In the few times that we've stayed at WL I can tell you there are always a lot of birds over what used to be Discovery Island! We even saw a Bald Eagle that came from that direction and flew right over us standing at the boat dock! It was very cool!

I think we were right across from where Discovery Island used to be. Those vultures would nest in the trees outside our room. They were everywhere.

No Sheers????????????

OK honestly, that makes me not want to stay at BLT at all. That would freak me out.

:rotfl2:

My personal opinion is that they tried to do BLT as cheaply as possible and cut the maximum amount of corners knowing that people would want to stay there because of location, location, location. I think they misjudged to some degree.

Although, if it wasn't for the fab location I would not want to stay there again in a studio.

Thanks for those pictures! :thumbsup2 It looks beautiful! Can't wait!! :yay:

The pictures don't even start to do Kidani justice. It really is totally fabulous in real life. I stayed there one month after it opened and it was amazing!

What a great view. I would enjoy looking off a balcony at Cinderella's castle.

There really is not better view than looking at the castle. It's so amazing!

The bathroom sink in the kitchen?! That does sound very odd. I hope that is one of the things Disney is fixing.

According to the Disney files they are, but that sounds like one expensive fix. Should have done it right in the first place. :rolleyes1

Elwww I am not digging that bathroom sink situation. I mean everyone sat around and agreed that it would be a good idea to do that?!! :confused3 And while we are at it lets not put any sheers on the windows...

Snip, snip, snip...the sound of cutting corners.

That is okay though because I am still going to stay there!!:rotfl:

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: We did!

Can you imagine sitting at the pool and looking down and your magazine is on fire! :rotfl: Nice!

The room did seem small, like a college dorm! The view almost makes up for the smallness, but that bathroom sink in the kitchenette was not so nice.:crazy2:

Exactly as small as a 1980's college dorm. But seriously, the view DID make up for it and we really weren't sitting around the room that much. Almost never. If we were back there in the afternoon it was to take a power nap then head out again. Plus the balcony was huge!

kitchenette - We did not like it not because of space but the whole hair thing! Can you imagine someone with really long hair in there. Although the hair dryer was pretty nice.

Love the BLT room pics! It is very small though, it looks about the size of a room at the All Stars!

Of course, you don't get that view at the All Stars! :cool1:

Trust me - the actual room space was smaller than the All Stars. I'm sure it was bigger in square footage, but most of the space was taken up with the galley kitchen, bathroom, and entryway. The sleeping area is tiny.

:welcome: papertraveller! So glad to have you join in. Did you love the 1BR? I think a 1BR would be fab!

How was the view from the 5th floor? Did you think it was too low?

Oh what a hardship - to be going back and squeezing into a studio! :rotfl:

Tonight's update will be pictureless. Can you believe it? I actually put the camera away during the next leg of our journey. But, never fear, I checked with Jen today and she has pictures- lots of them. So I will proceed with the narrative.

So you've seen the digs. You know what the room and the view look like. After we settled down from the excitement of having the "best view ever", we called luggage services to see if our bags had arrived. They weren't supposed to arrive until 2 - 3pm, but, hey, ya never know. :confused3

Call made. No bags yet.

That was OK. We had our bathing suits and that was really all we needed for where we were going.

I'm sure you all know that one of the nice things about a DVC membership (in addition to getting a nice discount on an annual pass) is having the privilege to pool hop to most pools. Before we left on the trip, I mentioned to Jen that one of the things I really wanted to do was pool hop over to the Poly. I love the Poly pool. I visit it every time I go over there to eat. I try to plan it so I arrive early enough to take a quick stroll around the pool. Since becoming a DVC member, my chances of staying at the Poly are pretty small. So I figured if we were staying at BLT, this was the perfect opportunity to visit the Poly pool.

Jen was in agreement, so we quickly changed and headed out to catch the monorail. Since I had played Sherpa all morning I figured I would leave the camera and backpack behind and lighten the load. It was so liberating! :cool1:

When we got on the monorail I tried to see if there was actually a way to walk from the Contemporary to the Poly and I discovered that this is pretty much impossible. OK, good to know. Moving on!

When we arrived at the Poly pool, things were pretty hopping. Not surprising, considering how hot it was. I'm not sure if I mentioned it yet, but it was really hot out. :rolleyes1 95 degrees hot! We found some seats over on the beach near the pool deck. Ahhhhhhh!

First order of business - pool drinks. I'm not sure why, but I really wanted a sangria. For some reason I remembered the really yummy sangria I had at Narcoossee's last September. I must have been delusional to think that the pool at the Poly would have a big pitcher of that yummy concoction sitting behind the bar waiting just for Jen and me. Instead the CM pulled out two bottles of prepackaged sangria. Jen and I were skeptical and considered changing our order right there on the spot, but the CM assured us that the sangria was 'very good'.

uhm...Nope....It was not that good, but honestly, after drinking 1/4 of it, it started to taste a lot better. So we sipped bottled sangria on ice, swam in the Poly pool, and chilled on the beach.

As we were sipping sangria I noticed that the gentleman next to me had this cool plastic glass with a tiki man on it. I said, "what kind of drink is that?" He informed me that he made the drink himself in dollar store glasses with the juice in the concierge lounge and the rum he packed in his luggage. Smart planning. He then went on to explain to me what the concierge lounge was. :confused3 Anyway, he and he wife were celebrating their anniversary, so we wished them a happy anniversary and a great vacation.

So, now I am determined to find plastic tiki man glasses for when the east meets west girls converge on BCV this spring!

Then the CM running the activities at the pool announced that bingo would be starting in 10 minutes. Jen asked if I wanted to play. I declined, but 30 seconds later Jen thrust a playing card in my hand. Well...Ok...then.

Bingo was actually a lot of fun. We played a total of 3 games. The last game required the winner to fill the entire board. I think Jen was like 2 spaces short. We so wanted to win that 30 minutes on a wave runner, but it just wasn't gonna happen. Oh well.

At that point we glanced at the time and it was actually almost 4:30. Our dinner ADR was 6:15 and we still needed to get back to the room, call for our luggage, unpack, shower, and change.

Oh...and I almost forgot....we originally had plans to meet LL and Marc that evening and they were going to join us at the TOTW lounge. But LL texted me and said they were totally wiped out so they were going to skip it. I completely understood considering they had already been vacationing for a week. As it turns out, they made a smart choice and you will see why in the next update.

Hopefully Jen will be along soon with her pictures of our Poly Pool Hop!

So....up Next.....Here's a Little liquor with your Ice and Batten Down the Hatches!

Pool drinks- I had a great one at the Poly, but ordered it from the Lounge and took it out. Better drinks than the pool bar makes! :thumbsup2

Bingo sounded fun- shoulda done that!

That's such a great perk for DVC members, getting to pool hop! I'd love to check out the Poly pool someday, but who knows if I will ever stay there! :confused3

Ugh, bottled sangria, that's so strange to me! I LOVE sangria, I can't imagine it in a bottle! You should have gotten one of those drinks in the pineapple that everyone always talks about! :rotfl:

Can't wait to see the pool pics! :)

OH, those pictures are so familiar!!! I had the same comments/concerns about the BLT Studio when we stayed there. I believe that you were EXACTLY two floors above our room. I'm almost positive we were in 7706. DH saw the pics here and said, that looks just like our room and views!

I'm curious how they plan to "fix" the bathroom sink being on the wrong side of the wall! :confused3

Looking forward to more of your fun adventure!!

We just got our DVC "welcome" book in the mail and now we are furiously planning and plotting! Do you get to pool hop b/c you are DVC? Hmmmm...more planning!

:worship: Your pictures are absolutely fantastic. They have given such a different view of the parks, much of which I have never noticed before. You really bring out the fine details of WDW in your pictures. Amazing! Loving your TR so far.

Again your view is absolutely stunning. I love your pool time and having drinks and just relaxing. And, of course, playing bingo. It brings back sweet memories as I used to go with my grandma once every two months to play at a hall...she loved this one on one time with me an I felt the same way.

Ding ding ding! That's what I thought of as soon as I saw it. The overhead light was angled in a wierd way and I think it was so that you'd get that shadow.

Even though it was the Sherpa's afternoon off, she still brought her red ripstop bag so I had a dry place for my camera and a place for the mugs.

9-10_WDW_94.jpg

I love all the foliage and waterscaping at the Poly. I didn't get any good indoor pics on this trip. I got this while walking out to the pool.

9-10_WDW_93.jpg

9-10_WDW_95.jpg

That view NEVER gets old! :thumbsup2

9-10_WDW_96.jpg

See what I mean?

9-10_WDW_92.jpg

Hmmm.... these pics look funny. Not as nice as it was in real life, I swear.

9-10_WDW_102.jpg

Ahh... the sangria. We're looking over the drink menu, wanting something tropical, something "Poly", and sangria sounded good. Fruit, wine, fabulous! Two please! Then he reached over and got two little bottles out. I mentioned something about not feeling confident about bottled sangria and the bartender said he was too until he tasted it and assured us it was good.

Yeah, no, not really. :scared: I was tempted to ask him to add some juice to it or something but I suffered in silence. Once the ice melted a bit it got... watered down and more drinkable.

9-10_WDW_98.jpg

Bingo was fun. Mary Ellen tried to resist but once she was playing she was in-it-to-win-it! She was heckling the winners and getting the new cards and cheering me on! :cool1:

On the way in we stopped by that art shop on the bottom floor whereI saw these beautiful paintings. The week before I left for WDW my dog got sick, very sick. Stella was in kidney failure and spent 2 days in the ICU on fluid therapy. We brought her home not knowing if she's be home for days, weeks, or months at most. It turned out to be days. One week after she came home, we made the decision to give Stella peace. :littleangel: Seeing these paintings made me think of her. Fond memories, good memories, but I miss her terribly.

Mama misses you, Stella Bella :dog:

Pool hopping used to be one of the perks of staying on property. That was in the 80's when we stayed at CW.

It's funny that you mentioned a paper could catch fire at the Vegas hotel because that is what was shown on the news. A paper was in a plastic bag which had melted from the sun projected on the paper.

Pool drinks- I had a great one at the Poly, but ordered it from the Lounge and took it out. Better drinks than the pool bar makes! :thumbsup2

You got the drinks right, we got the bingo right - put us together and we are a mad-pool-party-havin'-people!

Drinks in a pineapple? I missed that? D'OH! That's it, gotta go back, NOW!

Yes, pool hopping is a DVC privelage but I have to admit, it's not like there's pool police running around. :cheer2: Congrats on the :welcome: book! Being a part of DVC is one of the best-est things ever!

As for the fixing of the studios, it's gonna cost some $$ to do it and the rooms are going to be out of commission for a while.

Thanks! I'm just gonna assume you're referring to my pics :rotfl2::lmao::rotfl: Seriously though, I'm glad you are enjoying this TR. I am loving this whole process. I feel like I am reliving the trip! As I am going through my Day 2 pics I am in awe of all we did that day! :faint:

The pool time was all Mary Ellen's idea and I have to say, it was the best thing EVER! I never spend enough time at the pool and on this trip I got to spend time at 3 different pools! It was relaxing, it was beautiful, and it was a much needed respite from the heat and go-go-go park time. I am going to spend more time at the pool(s) from now on! Thanks to MEK!

By the way - MEK is just easier to type than Mary Ellen; hope that's ok with you. :thumbsup2
