**BEST FRIENDS PET CARE KENNEL at DISNEY WORLD FAQ**

B,

Did they explain why they put on paper collars instead of leaving the regular collars on the dogs? My dogs have tags with all our emergency numbers on them just in case. I can't imagine leaving them somewhere.....especially out of state....without the tags.

I asked, and all they said was to indentify them. :confused3 Mine have their names on their collars and all, so I dont know why they do that. Wierd. They didnt like those paper things. They were sticky at the ends and kept getting stuck on their fur. Aggravating. LOL

I noticed you posted pictures of the dog and cat areas. Would they board a large macaw parrot? He's very tame and does well here at home with his canine brother and sister, buy would not do so well around strange dogs and he's never seen a cat in his life.:rotfl:

Aubriee, that is a good question. I don't see why not, they have another area for "pocket pets", but I dont know if they would take those! I would call and ask! Let us know what you find out!

I am really happy to see more about the boarding, I was really worried about the heat and/or shaded areas for outdoor time, mine love to play outside, but don't take to the sun well. LOVE the VIP suites! I have worked for vets before and I wanted to offer one explanation for the paper collars. Their everyday collars, can be hazardous. The paper collars are hopefully the ones that are like an entrance arm bands for people, actually really hard to just tear off. Dogs(every shape and size) can get their collars hung up on things and it can cause the dog to get stuck/hung up on something, even twisted in bedding, which can stress them out or even worse choke them! I have seen sibling dogs(again all shapes and sizes) chew through the other's collar, just being away from home and in a different setting and they just find a way to entertain themselves. In theory if one does it a paper collar, it should pass through them with little problem(gross I know, but I have one that shreds everything!)
Hopefully the dogs without bedding will get it at night? One of my dogs(older) shreds his beds to pieces and nests in it (not the sofa though lol!) if we have to board we just take smaller blankets for each day so he always has something. Thank you for posting this, I haven't decided if we should take ours yet! It does look like a very nice place!

Every place we have ever boarded our dogs have always replaced the regular collar (they hang on to it) with a paper collar that often has some sort of coding written on it - one place even had a bar code on it. Some of the reasons provided to me were similar to the ones listed above regarding chewing, getting stuck on something, coming off (think those safety release collars). One place color coded the paper collars based on what play group to put the dogs into (my beagle played better with the bigger dogs rather than the small dogs) so it was easy to spot if someone wasn't where they were supposed to be.

Todisneynow..I never thought of all that. I guess thats why they did it! The wrote their name on the paper collar, so I know thats how they ID'ed them. But your explanation makes really good sense! Thanks for your input!

They really do need some shade in the dog park. I dont know how they are going to do it, but it really is hot out there. And some pet parents were complaining because some of their dogs PAWS got really hot on the K9 grass and started yelping. So that needs to be taken care of.

Honeymo...yes, that makes sense as well. I THINK they were going to have better made paper collars down the road, that was opening weekend, so they were kinda working out the bugs. My boys didnt do the playgroup, but I do know they have "interviews" to see which doggie goes in which group. LOL...how cute is that?

Thanks for posting all of this! It's great info! We'll be making the long drive down in about 2 weeks and are thinking of boarding our small dog at Best Friends. You can't beat the proximity to our hotel and the parks. I think I'll feel safer having her close to us. I just don't know if I'm prepared to fork over the extra money for a VIP suite. We'll see!

Thats what I thought too about the suite, but IMO, its well worth the peace of mind! Do you have ressies?

Thank you for all the great info. I just made my reservations for our trip in Nov/Dec. We couldn't get a VIP the entire time but they will be in one for half of it anyway. We have a 27lb min pin/terrier mix and 35/40lb Shiba Inu and I feel they need the extra room. They have to share an indoor suite the first night they are there and a Villa the last 4 nights. The staff member I spoke with stated they would be fine in these together. I am still worrying from the pictures though. I would have made ressies earlier but we weren't originally going to have to board them. Our Min Pin is very fearful and I am also worried about him and other dogs but I will tell the staff members when we check in about it. It's good to know they can do other things with him instead if it's a problem. I will be sure to share our experience here!

Scratch that thought about the size of the Villa. I found some more pics and it will be fine. They might be in close quarters the 1st 24hrs in the indoor suite but they will be ok.

Hello MousePrincess! You will LOVE the VIP suites. Im glad they will be in those the last four nights. If your min pin is fearful, tell the staff not to the playgroup, maybe substitute it for an extra cuddle time or extra walks. And also, be careful in the outdoor yard, its leashless, so watch out for the other big dogs! Some pet parents arent as careful as we want them to be!

If you have facebook, go to the facebook page. Its got ton of pics! ;)

LOL! The VILLAS are just a bit smaller than the VIP, but still nice and roomy!

Thanks for starting this thread. We are bring our shih tzu, and I like that I can come visit her. Right now, she is booked for the indoor room, but I am thinking about upgrading to the VIP. She doesn't really care for other animals though. Can I ask them to substitute some one-on-one time instead of playgroup time???

How much of a discount do AP holders get?

Yes you can ask to sub the playgroup for cuddle time or a walk. Thats what we did.

We got the VIP suites for 59.00 a nite. That was an AP and resort stay discount!

Thank you! do you think the VIP is worth $59 for just one dog? Part of me wants to let her stay there just because it has a TV and they could turn it up to drown out some of the other noise. She doesn't like other animals bothering her. She just wants to lay around and sleep. =)

What did you think about the Villas?

What did you think about the Villas?

I think so...the reason I prefer the suites over the villas, is the personal pet concierge. That alone is worth the extra money to me. They get more time with a person and more attention.

The villas looked real nice, they have the TV as well, and its not as big as the suite. I didnt like it alot cause its in a row of other villas, and there is alot of activity with the staff taking the other dogs out, the back and forth, etc.

If you have the extra to spend, i would shoot for the suite! :) And yes, its just fine for one doggie! :)

Thanks. I am going to call tomorrow and see what price they can give me for the VIP suite. If it is $59 with our AP, then we will definitely do it. I think she would be much happier.
