Where did this heat and all these people come from? The new PTR/TR link 5/7

Great Update! I really wanted to go on Everest on our trip (it was being built when we were there last) but DH wasn't having any part of it and I didn't want to go by myself.

You all know the story right? Nemo is excited for school but his Dad is afraid

And they all live happily ever after In the Big Blue World!!

The performance was fantastic and a great way to cool down! After the show, the time had finally come…my long awaited date with the Yeti.

Then made my way inside.

florida2010355.jpg

I took the single rider line and basically walked right on! The yeti did not disappoint (that would be a fuzzy purple me in the second row)

Give Nemo a few years in school, and it'll be dad that's excited about him going and Nemo who is lazing around in the bed hitting the snooze alarm over and over. ;)

I have only seen Mr. Yeti in person one time, and I did that the 'fast' way. I want to go back and spend time in the queue. I'm thinking that in March, our friend, Kay, might want to ride, and I can take pictures then. I keep thinking that when I am doing my photo wandering alone one of these days I'll get up the nerve to ask someone if I can just walk in front of them for picture-taking purposes only. I know I am missing a great queue.

As for the ride, once was fine. I might do it again in the future, but if I don't, I am okay with that. It's a little much for me.

I am so glad you got to do those two very different activities on that day. I enjoyed sharing them with you this morning. :)

:yay: you met the Yeti!!!!! Pretty awesome ride, isn't it???

You got some beautiful shots at Nemo. I really like that show - it's so well done, and that air conditioning....:cloud9:

Not getting to ride EE in 2008 was one of my biggest disappointments. I wasn't missing out this time!

Ahh, that AC in Nemo was much needed, it felt about 100 degrees outside :scared:

What a great afternoon's catch.....Nemo and the Yeti!

Love the pictures!

Thanks! It was a nice start to the evening :goodvibes

Hurray for cooling down with Nemo and meeting the Yeti!!! :yay: Love the pictures of the queue of Everest! Very neat!

I love the themeing of that queue, the only downside to there not being a line is that I didn't stop to soak it all in

We loved cooling down and seeing Nemo in june on our trip also. Cute photos you were able to get.
Love, love EE!!!! Is is not the best roller coaster?

The yeti did not disappoint, that's for sure!

Awesome update, Katie. I'm so glad you got to meet the Yeti this trip (I missed it due to the fact that Mark couldn't ride) and Nemo looks great--we definitely have to give that a shot next year.

How is Mark doing? Have you seen Nemo? It was a great show!

Aww man...definitely make it next time! It's a fantastic ride :thumbsup2

Yay for the Yeti!

We really enjoyed Nemo too!

It was a great way to spend the afternoon :goodvibes

Oh, how true that statement is!! (of course I am also guilty of the snooze alarm game :rolleyes1)

I love just about any ride so EE was great but I can see you enjoying just the walk through the queue!

So I have an update ready to go but it is in 2 parts. I have a thing about not wanting them split between 2 pages so I thought I would use the final post on this page to share a picture of my recent birthday boy

Day 5 wraps up

After my meeting with the Yeti, I wandered over in this direction

florida2010379-2.jpg

I had hoped to visit the tigers and bats but didn’t realize the trail closed at the end of regular park hours. I contemplated riding Kali but despite the heat, I just wasn’t in the mood to get soaked. I stopped to check out these guys while I decided what to do next

florida2010370-1.jpg

florida2010375-1.jpg

since I was alone, I decided to spend some time checking out the details in the tree of life.

florida2010384-1.jpg

florida2010388.jpg

(Am I the only one bothered by this elephant? It’s position seems a bit un-Disney…I’ve only seen elephants on their hind legs for one reason)

florida2010387-1.jpg

florida2010393-1.jpg

I really wasn’t certain where I was because I had never been on any of these trails but it was actually cooler in the shade and I was really enjoying my “doing nothing” time

florida2010395.jpg

florida2010399.jpg

florida2010398.jpg

I stopped for a couple photopass pics. You can tell how hot it was…yes, that’s a sweat mark from where my bag crossed my body :scared:

76.jpg

78.jpg

I asked the photographer if he had the balloon effect and he said yes. I was so excited and happily posed…but the pictures never made it on my CD. :confused3 Next he asked if I wanted the Stitch effect and despite my aversion to the nasty creature, I decided it would be fun anyway!

81.jpg

I had plans to meet up this evening with Tracy and Mary Ellen, they had both wisely spent their afternoon relaxing at their resorts and were making their way to AK. I figured I had enough time to do one more thing on my must-do list so I headed back in this direction

florida2010402.jpg

So yes, I am a big science nerd and HAD to take a picture of this booth. For those who are less geeky than me, Trilobites are one of the first hard-bodied animals on Earth. Greg and I actually went somewhere on our honeymoon where we spent several hours digging and splitting rocks to find these fossils (oh, and they didn’t live at anytime even close to the dinosaurs but I can overlook that for the great pun it provides here!)

florida2010403.jpg

I encountered this fellow and at first thought he was a cement sculpture because he was SO still but eventually I did see him open and close his mouth for a moment. He was a BIG guy!

florida2010413-1.jpg

I get such a kick out of this area! The theme makes much more sense when you know the story behind it.

florida2010414-2.jpg

Then I reached my destination

florida2010419-1.jpg

As I was walking in, I was handed one of those timer cards for the 4th or 5th time on this trip! The girl asked me if I was on disboards. I laughed and asked her what gave me away, she said the lime green bagallini :lmao:

I was really enjoying the queue area but felt the responsibility of that timer card in my hand so I didn’t take as much time as I would have liked, it was basically a walk on

florida2010423-1.jpg

florida2010424-1.jpg

I have to admit, I wasn’t sure if I would like this ride but I LOVED it!!! It was so much fun and I found myself laughing hysterically at it remembering Michelle’s story of holding on to her niece

florida2010426.jpg

After my ride, I quickly found Tracy and her friend Sue near here

florida2010431-1.jpg

florida2010430-1.jpg

And pretty soon, Mary Ellen found us (she took this pic, thanks MEK!)

IMG_3848.jpg

Mary Ellen’s hubby, who many of you know as directionless Denny, was lost somewhere else in AK. We decided to ride primeval whirl and meet him and their friend Chuck by EE after. I had not ridden Disney’s version of this but have ridden it in other places and I always forget how SLOW loading it is!! We spent the wait chatting about our trips up until this point.

Then we made our way over to EE where Denny and Chuck were waiting.

florida2010436.jpg

Another great ride, this time with great Disers!!

florida2010437.jpg

Then MEK suggested we check out It’s Tough to be a bug

florida2010441-1.jpg

florida2010442-1.jpg

This was not on my must-do list but I was happy to tag along. It was kind of fun, not sure it will be on a must-do next time but I’m glad I did it. No spoilers for those who haven’t done it but I really was NOT expecting the surprises from below!!

EMH’s were coming to an end and we had dinner plans at AKL with Tracy and Sue. We stopped for some PP pics before heading out

88.jpg

As we left AK, Shelby caught up with us and we headed out to the buses.

It was then that I started to see it…looming up ahead….what is that? I couldn’t remember seeing it there before and nobody else seemed to notice it. Was I imagining it?

It got closer and closer as we approached AKL and started to become more clear. Then when we got checked in for our meal at Jiko, I ran right into it…the wall!!!!! I had been on the go for 5 days, I’d had too much heat and too much food and suddenly had an overwhelming desire to do nothing but fall asleep!! I felt so bad, I had been really looking forward to this dinner ADR and getting to spend time with Tracy but I was SO tired. I don’t think I was a very good dining companion. Shelby on the other hand was well rested and chatting up a storm so I don’t know how much the others noticed.

Such a beautiful restaurant, I only took this one picture however

florida2010449-1.jpg

I started my meal with Artisan Cheese Selection - Five Goat, Cow and Sheep Cheeses from Around the World $14

florida2010445-2.jpg

It was OK but not nearly as good as the cheese plate at Narcoosees

Shelby went with the Barbecue Chicken Flatbread - with Apple-Jicama slaw, African barbecue sauce, and four cheeses $10

florida2010447.jpg

She liked it a lot, I had a couple bites of her leftovers the next day and it was really good

Tracy had a HUGE bowl of Prince Edward Island Mussels - with White Wine Cream, roasted garlic, dill, Cinnamon-Raisin Baguette $12

florida2010446-1.jpg

She loved it!

Sue had this salad which I can’t find on the allears menu

florida2010448-1.jpg

It looked delish, I seem to remember her being quite happy

Then Tracy, Shelby and I all ordered Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon - with Macaroni & Cheese and Red Wine Sauce $41

florida2010450.jpg

OMG!!!! This was AMAZING!! I just wished I wasn’t so tired and able to enjoy it more! I don’t think I ate all the filet but I was sure to sop up all that sauce with the mac and cheese…yummy!!

Sue went with Maize-crusted Halibut - with Vegetables of the Moment and Tomato-Butter Sauce $36

florida2010451.jpg

Again, I recall her liking this a lot

None of us were particularly hungry for dessert but Tracy promised to help me eat it (and it was included in my deluxe plan after all!) they started us out with some little cookies

florida2010452.jpg

Tracy and I ordered Pistachio Creme Brulee - With a chocolate-layered bottom $8 (As recommended earlier in the week by Michelle)

florida2010453-1.jpg

It was good but I don’t think we ate ½ of it

Shelby tried Jiko Trio - with Flourless Chocolate Cake, Chocolate Mousse, and Caramel Ice Cream $8

florida2010454.jpg

She liked it and I tried a couple bites but it was much too rich for as full as I was!

After dinner we looked around AKL a bit but my lack of pictures is a reflection of my energy level!

florida2010455-1.jpg

florida2010457-1.jpg

florida2010458-1.jpg

We looked through the gift shop and made sure to stop at Mara for some Zebra Domes for later. Then we walked over to Tracy’s villa to check it out. She had a savanna view room but in the dark there wasn’t much to look at. She definitely had some nice digs though!!!

Finally I had to admit I was exhausted and just needed to head out! We made our way to the front of Kidani and called a cab

florida2010463-1.jpg

It took a surprisingly long time and I barely remember making it back to our room before crashing hard for the night! I would love to say I could sleep in the next morning but we had EMH’s planned at MK…would we make it?

Nice update. Yes, when you don't rest you crash or just walk around like a zombie not really enjoying yourself. This trip I rested more than others because it was so hot and I am from down here. I would go back to the resort almost every afternoon and I never do that.

Great update, Katie. I am so glad you LOVED Dinosaur. It is one of my favorites (I did it solo this trip because Mark couldn't ride it). Your pictures at AK and at the Tree of Life are outstanding. I never noticed that elephant picture before...very interesting.

Sorry you were so tired for your meal (that happens when you've been going nonstop for days).

Love the photopass pics (I asked for the "baby Simba" picture instead of Stitch because, like you, do not like Stitch).

YAY for wonderful DISmeets!!! SO much fun!!!

YAY for some solo time and just being able to enjoy AK your way for awhile! I too love the Dinosaur ride and I have to go on it everytime I go to AK!!!!

The Wall...I have met the Wall many times! At Disney its so easy to just go go go go....glad you were still able to enjoy your time at Jiko!! I am SO excited to eat there with Leslie in January!! I have had it on my list two times and have yet to make it there but I will this trip!! Your food pictures look amazing and I can't wait!!!!!

Awww Katie that was such a fun day and night....first at The Ditch then later at AK and Jiko! I needed that break in between or I would have hit the wall too! :headache: Obviously the heat didn't help!
Had such a great time hanging out with Mary Ellen too
I swear I never noticed you acting tired or anything at all during dinner.....I must have been too consumed with my mussels and steak!!! I do remember it being quite late though by the time we finished then walked over to Kidani :sad2: Sue had good luck with all of the fish she ordered....she had excellent fish at Le Cellier and Jiko.

Tracy

Katie -

first of all , I'm so glad you are back!!!!!

second, you son is adorable and I love that b-day cake. very cool!

third, I remember thinking that afternoon that you had way more energy than me. I never would have been able to go from cinco de mayo right to the ak and then hang all night. I'm not surprised you finally crashed.

fourth, I forgot that we rode EE together. Yeah us!

fifth, love your pictures of the TOL. You got some really, really great shots!!!!!

Great picture of the birthday boy and his cake! :goodvibes

Love all your strolling around Animal Kingdom pictures, and what a fun meet with Tracy and Mary Ellen!

Yep, that wall can really hit you hard!

Love that picture of your son and the cake!

And I have to ask.....is the WALL all right? I'd hate to think that damage was involved....:lmao:

Great pictures as always...particularly of the tree. It never amazes me about the amount of detail on that tree and every picture I see, there's more that I haven't seen....

:
How is your year going? I am settling into the new job and the kids have mostly made the change from the last teacher to my much more enforced rules and expectations. Naturally, I am working with students of low motivation and that is a frequent stress but I'm managing OK

Good year, so far. I can't complain. I have really good classes-I'm staying busy, but I'm enjoying teaching math full time. :thumbsup2

Day 5 wraps up
I have to admit, I wasn’t sure if I would like this ride but I LOVED it!!! It was so much fun and I found myself laughing hysterically at it remembering Michelle’s story of holding on to her niece

;) So glad I could bring laughter to your day!

Going back a couple of updates - I'm so glad that you were able to catch Finding Nemo! I felt bad that you had missed the showing you wanted to see the morning we toured AK together. And, yay for finally meeting the Yeti! Isn't that ride awesome?!

I'm sorry that that awful wall popped up right before your dinner at Jiko. It's such a great place I hate that you weren't able to fully enjoy that meal and your time with Tracy :sad2:

Despite that I believe I am geekier than you (perhaps, just a different shade of geek), I didn't know that about Trilobites! How very interesting! And I bet very, very, very few people know really what they are. It certainly sounds dionsaur-esque!

Fantastic day at AK going solo and what a wonderful sounding and looking meal from Jiko! I REALLY want to try that filet and mac & cheese sometime, I don't think I have ever read a poor review of it! Sorry to hear about The Wall, I sure hope your slept well and were able to feel better in the AM! As for those EMH....hmmmmm....I would have skipped them!

Dork is back. All caught up. I believe I hit your friend the wall too.

Did not know that about trilobites either.

Nice update. Yes, when you don't rest you crash or just walk around like a zombie not really enjoying yourself. This trip I rested more than others because it was so hot and I am from down here. I would go back to the resort almost every afternoon and I never do that.

Honestly, I was feeling OK the whole week (surprising even myself) right up until that walk to the buses. By the time dinner was over, I wasn't sure I would survive the walk over to Kidani. (insert dragging my but# smilie here)

Great update, Katie. I am so glad you LOVED Dinosaur. It is one of my favorites (I did it solo this trip because Mark couldn't ride it). Your pictures at AK and at the Tree of Life are outstanding. I never noticed that elephant picture before...very interesting.

I LOVED dinosaur! Can't wait to go back :thumbsup2

I figured I would show my disgust for the vile critter but why did he show up on the PP CD and the balloons didn't :confused3

YAY for wonderful DISmeets!!! SO much fun!!!

YAY for some solo time and just being able to enjoy AK your way for awhile! I too love the Dinosaur ride and I have to go on it everytime I go to AK!!!!

I loved the fact that going with a friend meant taking the time for Dismeets, I'm not sure it would work out so easily with the family (I fear Greg would be a bit like Trish's hubby about such things!)

Jiko was VERY good! I wish I hadn't been so tired to enjoy it more

Awww Katie that was such a fun day and night....first at The Ditch then later at AK and Jiko! I needed that break in between or I would have hit the wall too! :headache: Obviously the heat didn't help!

Tracy

:lmao: I'm glad your carnivorous ways distracted you from my woes!! Yes, that walk over Kidani about did me in :sad2:

It was great however hanging out with you guys :grouphug:

Katie -

Aww thanks MEK!! I think it's funny that you more experienced EE riders all have your hands up. I wasn't that brave yet!

All that going unfortunately led up to a missed dinner date the next evening :sad1:

Great picture of the birthday boy and his cake! :goodvibes

Love all your strolling around Animal Kingdom pictures, and what a fun meet with Tracy and Mary Ellen!

Yep, that wall can really hit you hard!

He loved that cake and it was really easy!

It was a great afternoon of some solo time and awesome disers time :thumbsup2

Oh that evil wall :headache:

Love that picture of your son and the cake!

Great pictures as always...particularly of the tree. It never amazes me about the amount of detail on that tree and every picture I see, there's more that I haven't seen....

I'm sorry to say, I was the one who took it harder when I ran into that stupid wall!

I really had hoped for some tree observation time. I think it was Mary Ellen who once tood a photograpy walk of the tree with someone who knew a bunch of details about it. She had some great shots!

Good year, so far. I can't complain. I have really good classes-I'm staying busy, but I'm enjoying teaching math full time. :thumbsup2

;) So glad I could bring laughter to your day!

Glad your year is going well. I'm amazed we are 1/4 of the way done already (although the first quarter always goes by the fastest!)

I had such a laugh thinking of your poor neice

Going back a couple of updates - I'm so glad that you were able to catch Finding Nemo! I felt bad that you had missed the showing you wanted to see the morning we toured AK together. And, yay for finally meeting the Yeti! Isn't that ride awesome?!

I'm sorry that that awful wall popped up right before your dinner at Jiko. It's such a great place I hate that you weren't able to fully enjoy that meal and your time with Tracy :sad2:

It all worked out OK because we had gone to FOTLK together! Yes, EE was awesome!

I was bummed about not getting to enjoy my meal as much as you had

Despite that I believe I am geekier than you (perhaps, just a different shade of geek), I didn't know that about Trilobites! How very interesting! And I bet very, very, very few people know really what they are. It certainly sounds dionsaur-esque!

Trilobite fun fact #2: there name comes from the fact that they have 3 "lobes" - the head the abdomen and the pygidium...affectionately called by my fellow geology geeks in college as the trilobutt! :lmao:

When I first heard of filet with Mac and Cheese I thought it sounded odd but they are really awesome together!

Dork is back. All caught up. I believe I hit your friend the wall too.

Did not know that about trilobites either.

That wall is NOT my friend!!

I almost added a bit about aligators not really being related to dinos but thought I would skip that nerdy science lesson
