Anyone recommend a nice family barcelona port hotel for night before med cruise?

I am looking for a nice hotel to stay in (and reasonably priced.) for a family of 4 at barcelona port night before our cruise next summer 2011,most hotels are limited to how many people stay in a room in europe,and would love to see the disney magic come into port.

We have just booked the Petit Palace BCN, Roger de Lluria St 21. We have not stayed there before but they were one of the few in the location that we wanted that had rooms for 4. The site that we booked with charged 534 euros (for 3 nights in total) and I think class children upto the age of 17 for sharing. We stayed right opposite the Gaudi Cathedral this August (2 rooms) but we have chosen to stay closer to the good restaurants and El Corte Ingles (for carrying the alcohol back to the hotel for the cruise)

Good look and enjoy your cuise. I know we did and will next July.

We stayed there back in 2007. Its located near the Sagrada Familia and the tourist bus line. They are suites so the kids get separate sleeping arrangements. Breakfast was included. Nice boutique hotel.

Post cruise, we stayed at one of the American budget chains - think it was Best Western on La Rambla. They accomodated all 4 of us. Decent hotel - nothing spectacular.

We stayed at the Hotel Jazz and loved it. I booked a triple corner suite and it was great. The couch would easily accommodate 2 kids. I think they let you put 4 in the room. It has an amazing rooftop pool and a great location. I think i paid 145.00 euros. If you can, try to spend more than one night in Barcelona. It was my favorite city on the cruise.

We just came back from the transatlantic (wah!) and stayed in Barcelona. We stayed at Praktik Ramblas and it was very good for families. We had a triple room and the room had a king-sized bed and a fold out (but comfortable enough for my husband) double futon bed. My mom had a double room which was a King bed and a single futon.

The rooms were relatively spacious with a good sized bathroom, and had two balconies that looked over Las Ramblas. It was a very nice, upscale area, and the hotel was very clean and a nice mix of modern decoration in an older-style building. The simplicity of the room complemented our crazy amount of luggage and kid detritus. We requested a balcony. We paid just 205 euros for 2 nights in September, Thurs/Fri night.

Was right around the corner from a great little 5 euro breakfast place (called Divinus, highly recommend and YOU HAVE TO TRY THEIR HOT CHOCOLATE), and from the red and blue HOHO lines. Very central, very convenient, and about 10 minutes to the port by taxi. I highly recommend the place.

The hotel (Both last August and Petite Palace) are on the Bus route, tourist and local so really handy. In a cab the port is actually only 5 minutes away (10 during rush hour). We have booked Petit Palace for the location to shops and amenities as we would rather just have everything on the doorstep for the 3 days and only get a cab to the port.

Have you tried going onto the Meet section of other Med cruise dates as some of them have really useful info about accomodation including apartments and hotels. Good luck

From my memory there is no where to stay at the port. We did go down the night before ans eat at a wonderful Tapas Bar and watch the ships coming in.....Did not see the Magic come in ....I believe iit arrived during the night.

We were a family and stayed at the Renaissance at the airport. We had 2 rooms (connecting). One was a king and the other had 2 queens. The hotel was wonderful!!! We had free internet, conceirge service (they were great!!!), free shuttle from airport, free shuttle to the port, and free shuttle to and from the city (las Ramblas).

Also had an area with complientary drinks (soft drinks for the kids) and snacks. Also had a wonderful breakfast.

There is a catch to this hotel though....if you make a reservation make sure you are on the "executive" side. we paid 122 euros a night. I thought it was an awesome deal because of all the free shuttles....we saved a fortune in taxis!!!

I second that! We loved Barcelona too. It was very tourist friendly an easy to get around. Also, the airlines lost one of our bags, and it took 2 days to get to us. If we hadn't stayed a couple nights in Barcelona we would have been without a suitcase on the trip. Which reminds me (off topic) - its better to mix clothes within each suitcase instead of packing a suitcase for each person just in case a bag goes missing.

From what i can see maybe not quite at the port but very close there is Eurostars Grand Marina Hotel,but i cant get a price for next year or see how many could fit in their rooms,(maybe too early).Although everyones examples of these other hotels are very tempting.Has anyone ever stayed at the Grand marina?

Which reminds me (off topic) - its better to mix clothes within each suitcase instead of packing a suitcase for each person just in case a bag goes missing.

We didn't get ANY of our bags for 2 days! My suggestion is to pack a change of clothes in your carry on as well. Luckily I had the forethought to do this and also pack our bathing suits in our carry ons. Ironically I have NEVER done this but for some reason did on this trip. We were able to spend the first day at the pool relaxing with our jetlag and then do a bike tour the next day and never missed anything that was lost with our luggage. I was glad to get it that evening though since I had reservations for a Flamenco show and didn't want to go shopping for a dress.

Glad to hear a review on the Hotel Jazz - it's on my "short list" for next summer!! It is one of the few that offer "triples". The pics online look like the room would have plenty of space! It gets great ratings on Trip Advisor too (#9 last time I looked). It also won the Trip Advisor 2010 Travelers Choice Award.

There are about 560 hotels in Barcelona that are reviewed on Trip Advisor - I am trying to stay within the top 200!! Other affordable family friendly properties on my "short list" which have decent ratings on Trip Advisor and which are also recommended in some of my tour books include:

Hotel EuroPark (#11 on Trip Advisor)
Hotel Barcelona Catedral (#17 on Trip Advisor)
Hotel Novotel Barcelona (#145 on Trip Advisor) (Novotel is a chain)
Praktik Rambla (#10 on Trip Advisor) (have to book a "superior" room for an extra 30 Euro to fit more than 2 people)
Hotel Constanza (#34 on Trip Advisor)

I think Praktik Rambla & Hotel Constanza are more toward the bottom of my list only because they don't have pools while the others all do (big plus for kiddos). A couple of families on my cruise thread seem like they may book the Novotel - It just opened this spring & I've read the staff seems confused - but it's cheap & includes kids under 16 and you can include breakfast if you want. We're planning on spending a few nights in Paris pre-cruise & then will go to Barcelona the day before (to hopefully avoid any lost luggage). I may book the Novotel for the one night pre-cruise and then the Hotel Jazz for 2 or 3 nights after the cruise. I think I want to try 2 different places and I think the Hotel Jazz is supposed to be in a good location too.

A lot of the other properties just don't accommodate families or else they're really expensive by the time you price them for more than 2 people (some, like the Majestic charge extra for more than 2 people).

OOOPS!! I just reread the OP's post - she is looking for a property AT THE PORT to see the ship. I am not sure there's anything much available AT THE PORT that's affordable AND family friendly. Is the Diagonal Zero near the port? I know it's near Diagonal Mar Beach. Eurostars Grand Marina & the Hilton Diagonal Mar are near the port but not sure I'd categorize them as affordable.

We stayed at AC Diplomatic, which was one of the Disney bus hotels. Very nice and 1 block from Tapas Tapas, 2 blocks from Las Ramblas, and not too expensive, but not real family friendly. Would definitely stay there again.

We are a family of 5 and will need a place next summer for 3 nights in Barcelona as well. I am surprised that no one suggested renting an apt for a family. My impression from the cruise critic website is that it would be much more economical. Since we haven't booked yet, has anyone here rented an apt? any recommendation? The only downsize would be lack of a pool?

We stayed at the Marriott Renaissance Hotel at the airport. It was about a 20 euro ride from the port. They had free shuttles to the airport and to the center of town to pick up the hop on/hop off buses. Lots of Disney cruise people were there too as we were all checking in at the same time.
