Inching My Way Closer to the Castle Final thoughts/future trips 4/2p90 The End 4/4p92

This reminds me of my first job in New York City. Our entire section of the company was moving from the 8th floor to the 13th. It was a LOT of work. The director of the team came by my desk and shoved a bottle of beer between my monitor and keyboard. "Drink!" she demanded.

Being small-town Minnesota girl, I swiveled around in my chair and gave her this look,

"You'll need it! Everyone needs to drink!" she called as she continued to pass out beer to all the employees.

On Fridays, every-single-Friday, an admin would make magaritas at his desk (yes, he had a blender and a liquor cabinet at his desk!) for everyone.

Drinking was ENCOURAGED at that job. :rotfl:

I'm also a MN girl, and I want to know how to get that job!!!

I made it back from Las Vegas yesterday. Was so glad to see that your PT was up & running. Now to get caught up.

Love that I'm starting to get Disney mail pertaining to my upcoming trip.

All caught up! I gotta' get me some of those Rita's, missed that place last September.

I, too would have been leery about flying on 9/11. We were on the Outer Banks when it ocurred. I had just turned on the tv to watch Good Morning America, saw everything from the begining. So terrible. I have a friend who was working at the Pentagon at that time. She has many stories about that day.

So far a great vacation by the two of you!

Great pictures! The food and drink look yummy! I love Basin too! We have gotten the bath bombs and smash them up so the kids can use some too. I have that yellow mickey soap and a white Christmas one too. I bought them LAST DECEMBER and just can't bear to use them - they're too cute! Plus I don't use bar soap for hand washing either, so it would have to go in the shower. I guess it could be just for me!!

Oh those drinks were super yum!

I haven't even taken the wrapper off the soap (just the price tag so Denny doesn't flip ). I will the first time we have friends over who may use the powder room!

I feel the same way about TrenD Mary Ellen! I was "this close" to buying a D&B bag in July, but I just couldn't justify the money. That would = a lot of margaritas!!!

That would be a REAL lot of margaritas. But those bags are so cute. What the heck is the mark-up on that stuff?

I'm gonna take a guess at the MEK Mug game and say you bought it at MK. I know they have a shop there with a wall full of mugs!

I actually saw those mugs in a lot of different places and I kept putting off buying it. So, no, I didn't buy it at MK. I actually almost didn't buy it at all. Does that give you a hint?

Looks like a very nice evening of shopping! I love all the "window shopping" I can do through the reports. It sure helps that I don't notice a lot of what I want when I'm there though, otherwise I'd have to hugely increase my souvie budget!!!

Me too! I need a much bigger souvie and drink budget on my next trip!!!!!! I do like going back at looking at my own pictures because it really helps me remember what I saw and what I liked.

Jen, love the idea with the giant Mickey head! :rotfl: If you ever do that you gotta post pics here on the DIS, it would be fun to watch it shrink!

I think that would have been so funny to see her devour the mickey head over a course of 5 days. But instead she ate a bunch of small mickey heads. Not nearly as entertaining, but equally yummy!

Sounds like a fabulous evening in DTD! Those drinks really do look yummy! I may have to seek one out at DTD in a few weeks!

It was a blast. And that margarita was literally my favorite drink of the trip. It's not the cave, but its also $4 cheaper, so definitely a good alternative!

All your DTD pics are great! I love vinylmation! I swear, they keep coming up with more things to be addicted too! UGH! Isn't it bad enough that we're already to addicted to going to WDW?! Then we have to be addicted to pins, vinylmation and god only knows what else!

That is exactly why Jen and I resisted. Because I could definitely see how those little critter could suck you right in. They were really, really cute. I liked the holiday series. I really wanted the pumpkin one.

Hi, MaryEllen. We are back and I see I have a LOT of catching up to do. I wanted to get my TR started (which I did last night), and will spend tonight catching up on everyone else's.

Welcome back Kathy! So glad you had a great trip. Love your TR so far! :thumbsup2

Mary Ellen, when you asked about my siggie, did you mean my tickers or links to reports?

Your siggie - yesterday or the other day when I looked at it all four siggie weres lined up four across. Now today it is two and two. Anyway - I think I am just jealous of all your upcoming trips. I have to wait until May to go again. :headache:

Okay, I'm all caught up. First off, MaryEllen your pictures continue to amaze me. And, Jen, your pictures are awesome as well.

Thank you. And Jen takes a great picture. She actually really understands all those settings on the camera, so my goal by next trip is to really learn to use my camera correctly.

MaryEllen, when we were at Disney last year (2009) we stopped off at the the POFQ on our way to the airport. There were greeters there with beads, however, they did not offer any to Mark and I (guess they knew we were CSR lovers). Jen, as for the mugs, I think it is nuts how people get crazy over it. While eating at the Pepper Market at the CSR last week, the server we had told us that when he was trained, they were told that guests WERE ALLOWED to bring their mugs back.

Can't wait for the next update.

I wonder what happened to those greeters????? :confused3

When I bought my very first mug I remember the lady in the gift shop telling me that I could bring that mug back anytime I came and could refill it. So people who get their panties all in a bunch about the mug thing are really annoying. It's a matter of using good judgement. I certainly wouldn't still be hauling my original POP Century mug around. I have upgraded it several times since then and will buy a new one in May if the mug changes.

So glad you got your Rita and the stand wasn't closed. They look yummy! :thumbsup2

Great sunset pics! :lovestruc

I would have literally cried if that stand had been closed. For weeks my goal was to get that rita!

I'm so glad you enjoyed the margarita stand. Truly one of my favorite places in the World. But, by golly, I've never thought about getting an Earl sandwich and bringing it over. Good idea. And those pics have me ready for lunch!!

Love the shopping pictures! :thumbsup2

I kept hearing your voice in my head telling me what a great margarita they made. And you were sooooooooooo right. You obviously know your ritas. So please have another for me when you go in just a few short weeks.

I see a drink from the margarita stand and lunch at EOS in my future ;)

Yeah....and its your very near future. C is having one for me, so you better do the same. And girls - I want proof....you better text me the picture so I can imagine I am right there with ya!

I'd like to see that on my desk right now, but they frown on drinkng while on the job (at a courthouse no less!)

Imagine that? I totally cracked up when I read this! :worship:

ditto! :thumbsup2

Brooke - that is a great story! I love the idea of happy hour starting right at the job! I am sure they could never get away with that right now, but it sounds like a hoot!

I'm also a MN girl, and I want to know how to get that job!!!

I was thinking the same thing, only I think drinking on the job might be frowned upon in health care (though I will admit that I did a little under cover drinking last week at the soccer concession stand. :rolleyes1) We waited until the hs game was over and the college game had started. I was there over 8 hours - its only right!

Love that I'm starting to get Disney mail pertaining to my upcoming trip.

:welcome: and Welcome back from Vegas! Did you have a great time? I am embarrassed to admit that I have never really been there (except for a flight lay over and I don't think that counts). It's one of those trips that I really would like to do with Denny one of these days. I think it would be a lot of fun.

:cool1: Woot for Mickey mail!!!!!!

All caught up! I gotta' get me some of those Rita's, missed that place last September.

:

OMG - you must go. Anyone you likes ritas must go there. really good!

So terrible. I have a friend who was working at the Pentagon at that time. She has many stories about that day.

That must have been so weird to be at the OBX which is the calmest place on earth and turn on the TV to watch that devastation. It must have been surreal. Really hard for me to imagine. And your friend at the Pentagon - I would be really interested in her memories from that day.

So far a great vacation by the two of you!

We really did have an excellent trip!

I know that most of you know that I will be going on another GF trip in May. This time its with 4 lovely DIS'ers named Cynthia (my roomie), Melissa, Christine, and Tracy. I am so excited to announce that we have all been able to secure rooms at the BEACH CLUB VILLAS for May! Many of you know that it has always been my dream to stay at the BCV and now it is finally going to come true. :cool1: I am uber excited.

BTW - we have a PTR, so come over and visit us!

Here's our link! http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2552837

I will be having a BUSY weekend with lots of sleeping and shiftwork, which will limit my trip reporting. I may be able to get some pics ready tonight for a post tomorrow.

I'm glad everyone likes the dual TR! It's a lot of fun to remember what we did and what was said that's memorable.

MEK - where were you when someone asked you about taking pics of merchandise? Was that in WOD?

Excellent, because I was planning to post tonight about our evening with Bob Jackson. We have NO pictures for that, so I was doing some research. I found his website and just sent him an email to tell him how great we thought he was. It really was a fun show!

Two minds are better than one! :thumbsup2

That was in Club Cool. The CM was actually giving me a hard time for taking pictures. :confused3 Huh?????? Everyone takes pictures in Disney. It's free game!

Hmmmm, I have no clue how they could have been lined up across like that. Not sure how they could have even fit in the space?:confused3
It wasn't anything I did!
All I know is in a few weeks I'll be down to just 3 tickers, I think....:rolleyes1

It was weird. I think it was like that on one of the work computers, which might explain the anomaly. :cool1: for a trip in three weeks. You are my trip idol. :worship: You and Melissa.:thumbsup2

I think Jen and I visited just about every store in DTD. While we were shopping I got a text from LL to ask if we were still meeting on Sunday. Well, Doh, Of course we were still meeting. Do you think I would give up a chance to meet the infamous LL (Lady Lallie aka Leslie)? I was psyched to here from her and looked forward to our meeting.

When she texted me she said they had just closed the pool at POR for thunderstorms. Interesting, because there was not one hint of t-storms at DTD. Quite the contrary. It was quite calm and lovely. But would it stay that way?????

OK....Sorry for this next picture, but I went over to photobucket to get the rest of my DTD pictures and I found .....Monorail Cat! This picture completely cracks me up......

funny-gif1.jpg

OK....Now back to your regularly scheduled Trip Report.....

Now this is a fun clock. I actually saw this at World of Disney, but I forgot to post it.....

IMG_8037.jpg

Jen and I went to the big pin station in DTD after we left Tren-D. I know that Jen bought a pin (or two), but I can't remember what it was. Sorry, but we will have to wait for her post.

After the Pin Trading Station we went to the Christmas shop. As predicted, we just started to see some lightening way off in the distance. Nothing major and no rain, so we just kept shopping.

IMG_8065.jpg

I saw tons of things I liked in the Christmas shop, but nothing I had to have, so we moved on to the Art of Disney shop. There was so much to look at (and just as much stuff to take pictures of).....

I love this picture. I have the post card.

IMG_8068.jpg

Here are some more great pictures.....

IMG_8075.jpg

I love Steamboat Mickey. He is so cool!

IMG_8076.jpg

I thought it was pretty cool that the artist's drawing was being broadcasted on a flat screen TV. It made it so much easier to see the details of the drawing....

IMG_8078.jpg

After we exhausted the Art of Disney store, we set off to Goofy's. Jen was looking for her giant rice crispy mickey treat and this is what we found.....

IMG_8082.jpg

I guess Jen didn't feel like dropping $50, so we left this bad boy alone.

This was from a Mickey jelly bean display on the wall.....

IMG_8083.jpg

After we left Goofy's we headed towards the boat being extremely optimistic that they might be running. Unfortunately the lightening off in the distance had canceled all the boats. Jen tried to get the captain to take us anyway, but he refused. Bummer. So we hiked back to the bus stop after we passed this iconic structure....

IMG_8080.jpg

Initially the line to the bus looked ridiculously long, but we managed to get on the next bus that pulled - standing room only, of course. That's was ok because we were standing next to a couple who got off at the next stop.

When we got back to POFQ we went back to the room and filled our mugs with some of the beer I brought. The beers were nice and cold by now.

Then we set off to POR. Jen had never been over there and she was looked forward to seeing the resort. I left my camera in the room because I was tired of carrying it. So the only thing I carried was my mug. We were on a mission. We were off to see the infamous Bob Jackson.

When we got to POR we couldn't find a seat at first, but then a couple of people took off and we grabbed their seats. We were close to the bar and a bartender quickly took our order. We both decided to try the teaka tea. Is that right Jen? Was that the name? All I really remember was the CM took our order and then took FOR EVVVVVVVVEEEEERRRRRRR to bring our drinks. When we finally got them, they were really quite good. Thank you Mr bartender.

Bob Jackson.....where can I start????? He was da bomb. He is such a talented piano player and a fabulous entertainer. I had heard he was good. That is not an understatement. He is really a lot of fun. And, of course, the more you drink, the funner Bob Jackson gets.

Here's Bob....

OK - that is one small picture of Bob. Let's see if I can find a youtube video....

Here we go.....

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=2032027675211001427#

Here's Bob's website......

http://www.yehaabob.com/

I have to tell you that Bob was an absolute hoot. Almost everyone in the audience participated. There were obviously some Bob fans there who knew his whole shtick. But even for first timers like Jen and I, it was easy to get into the swing of things. I can't tell you how long we stayed there, but I know we sang along to songs like........

Hey, Jude; Piano Man; I Got You, Babe; Sweet Caroline, and The Addams Family theme song. We heard him sing American Pie and Mony, Mony. Bob also has this fun song that he probably wrote about Sarah, Sarah.

Sarah, Sarah......sitting in the show shine shop. All day long she sits and shines. All night long she shines and sits. Sarah, sarah....sitting in the shoe shine shop. OOOOOOOOOHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH hands in the air!

This repeats and repeats as Sarah continues on her antics. It sounds so corny, but he makes it work!

We also did the hand jive, which was a little difficult for uncoordinated me! Bob is great at encouraging audience participation and before you know it, you are totally sucked into the show. The nice thing is, its such a small venue. People come and go, but you could sit there all night if you desired.

I already knew I loved POR/POFQ, but after seeing the Bob show - I decided I REALLY love POR. Not just for the pretty resort or the boat ride to DTD, but for Bob Jackson. I think he only plays 4 nights a week, but its a show that's definitely worth seeing!

Sometime after 11pm Jen and I decided we should probably go back to the room. We had visions of being up early, getting our bags transferred, hitting the bus to MK, then walking over to the Contemporary to check in BEFORE the opening show at MK. Would we be able to accomplish all that before 9am?????? :confused3 Stick around to find out!

Up Next......Bebopping over the BLT!

Sounds like a fun evening at DTD! I'll definitely be having a drink (or three ;) ) for you from the rita stand!

Bob Jackson sounds like so much fun! I've read good things about him all over the place! One of these days I'll get there to see him!

Or 3????? :rotfl2:

Too bad Bob Jackson only plays at POR. It would be cool if he also played at other places that would be easier to get to. But I get the whole theming thing. He really is a hoot!

I will definitely have a margarita in your honor but unfortunately can't text pics from my phone. I'll "regular" text you and you can use your imagination. :)

I've heard great things about yeehaw Bob. So glad you got to see him.

Can't wait to move over to the Contemporary!! :)

Wonderful updates. Do you know that I have never had a Margarita? I feel like I should. :rotfl2:

:faint:

Love all of those pictures from Art of Disney....now that I am a budding artist after taking three classes at World of Animation I have a better appreciation of those prints :rotfl2:

Sounds like you had a great time with Bob :goodvibes After all of these Rice Krispies treat pictures I think I will have to make some this weekend....I always liked them best when they were warm coming out of the oven :cloud9:

Really? :scared1: Than I definitely recommend you try one on your next trip. The frozen ones are pretty good cause they go down nice and slow!

What she said!

Now that sounds soooooooooo yummy! :goodvibes

I'm so glad you got to see Yeehaa Bob. We love his show! It's such a great time.

I remember reading about him on your TR a few weeks before we left, so going to see him was an idea fresh in my mind. So THANKS because it really was a ton of fun and I will definitely return to see him in the future!

I actually saw those mugs in a lot of different places and I kept putting off buying it. So, no, I didn't buy it at MK. I actually almost didn't buy it at all. Does that give you a hint?

You ordered it when you got back home? Joe did that for me with a mug I wanted but never bought! :thumbsup2

Yeehaa Bob is now on the list for March. I've read several TRs about him and every one has given rave reviews, it's TIME! You think a 3 year old would at least sit through a bit of it? Maybe an hour? I will bring distraction items as well, but I'm hoping the show is entertaining enough.
