Hey all! Happy to report that I've returned home, all 8 children and wife intact. Go me. We did, however, learn the valuable lesson that in Disney World, you dont have "lost children" you have "lost parents" and we dont refer to it as "losing your kid", but simply "being seperated" But lets keep that between us....

Welcome to any new dads that may have joined, I think youre gonna like it here. :thumbsup2

I havent been able to read any back posts yet since I had to go back to work the day after we drove back. real crud.

As for the vacation itself, it was awesome. unbelievable. Weve already booked for next year. My wife is working on a trip report over on the trip report board if you feel like heading on over and checking it out.
wifes trip report here
Hope everyone is having a good week.

I have the same sick sense of humor. Unfortunately, my wife stopped me.

I was going to tell them that I just got acquitted of murder charges and we are celebrating as a family.

I wonder if they have a button/pin for that one. My kids came home with 3-4 each that say "My First Trip to Disney."

ClearScreen

When we called the other day to book next years trip, the guy asked if we were celebrating anything. We quickly checked with Everyday is a holiday and told him we would be celebrating poisoned blackberries day since our first day was Sept 29th. I dont think he got our joke.

Hey guys. So I'm sitting in a hotel room in Miami watching the rain pour down in buckets. I was supposed to be meeting my new client today but they closed their offices due to the storms. Hopefully it lets up a bit so I can meet with them tomorrow before I head back to Chicago.

I see that there is some trash talking about my Small World Singers. Well let's bring it on. Remember there is so much that we share that it's time we're aware it's a small world after all.

 What a week! So how exactly did the kids break the windshield? popcorn::.

Apparently my DS8 and DD6 were outside playing. At some point his sister decided to throw him a baseball over my car in the driveway. Instead of him catching the ball the windsheild apparently caught it. She doesn't have the greatest arm strength so why he would allow her to try this I don't know.:confused3 So far this is the worst thing that they've broken. Heck, I about took out the back sliding glass door the other night kicking the football around with DS8, so i guess it can happen to anybody.

edited to add:
PAGE 176 OWNAGE!!!! (and i wasn't trying)

I've been seeing alot Moms Panel & Moms Panel hopefulls on the boards lately. What is it & is there a Dad's Panel also. :confused3:confused3:confused3

So it looks like our vacation next year is going to include WDW after all!:woohoo::cloud9: However... it all depends on whether I can get into BWV in March. Still looking into renting DVC points for this trip... and I have received some great advice so far from a couple of dads here. If all works out according to plan, this will be the first year I get to spend my birthday at Disney World!!!:banana::banana:

Birthdays at WDW ROCK! Can't wait...:goodvibes

Does anyone know where I can find the schedule to the Piano player at POR. We are going w/ DW grand parents and they would find that fun. Even I think it is something fun to do.

My DW and I make it a point to see Bob "The Piano Man" Jackson at least once when we are at Disney. We normally stay at a PO resort, which makes it easy. Get there around 8:00, sit in the room with the piano, and order a nacho platter and a beer. You might get to meet Bob before the show. This is one high energy act that is totally family oriented! Very entertaining, especially once the rooms fill up and Bob gets his routine going. :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

(I already know the answer to this, but have to ask anyway...)

Anyone here ever make a "slight mistake" when "instructing their kids?

This happened a few days ago:

DS (who's 2, almost 3) is just starting to get that daddy "catches bad guys"...well, he was pretending to "catch bad guys", and daddy--freshly home from hanging out with nothing but dudes for 5 months--was playing too. Well, he asked me..."Daddy, what do you say when you catch them?" (DW was watching all this go down)...

That's when, for some reason, my brain was disconnected from my mouth....and I just blurted out "I yell at them GET ON THE GROUND SCUMBAG":headache::headache: DW yelled MICHAEL!! as soon as I said it, and no sooner had she started to chastise me when DS started yelling "GET ON THE GROUND SCUMBAG" at the top of his lungs....

I spent the next 45 minutes trying to explain to him that this was NOT what I say....

Fast Forward to yesterday:

Well, he apparently blurted out his new favorite catch phrase at Day Care--while playing outside with his little friends....

DW made ME go in and explain it to the Director---who's husband (luckily) is a State Trooper and thought it was funny....:guilty:--however, I still got "the speech":rotfl2:

I say it was DW's fault because she focused on it at the beginning:lmao::lmao:

I had to take myself to time out..:lmao::lmao::lmao:

PLEASE tell me I'm not the only one who's done this..:guilty:

You are DEFINITELY not the only one.
Nothing like a two year old, toddling around the room, trying to carry a bowl of Cheerios. She would take a couple of steps, spill a Cheerio, bend down to pick up what she'd dropped, causing another to spill - and each time she bent down to pick up a Cheerio, she was muttering something to herself.

Upon scooting a bit closer, I hear that she's saying, "Crap. Crap. Crap. Crap." (Once for each dropped Cheerio).

In other news - we're all checked in for tomorrow's flight to Orlando, with Group A boarding passes. Just ONE MORE SLEEP!

CRUD

So it's been a crazy week once again. And I'm not even going to try to go back over the last 10 pages or so to catch up.

I spent my weekend in the woods, at the second session for Wood Badge, as I mentioned I would be last week. It was great. This was our outdoor experience with some limited backpacking and then tent camping, cooking our own meals, etc. (The first weekend was cabin camping with all meals prepared for us). So now the practical part of the program is completed, and I've begun my 18 month period to get my "Ticket" completed - which is a set of 5 goals that I have to bring to fruition before the end of the 18 months in order to "graduate" and receive my recognition - basically I have until March 26, 2012. I've already begun working on them, and have one half way completed... my personal goal is to have all 5 completed and "graduate" before summer is over in 2011, or half the time.

This weekend will be another Scout campout. I love it, but it sure does take away from my online time, :scared1: and knowing what's going on with you all, and the other groups I interact with... sheesh, just where are the priorities here?

Well, I took the plunge and started a Trip Report for our just-ended September Adventure. If any of you are interested in following along, the link can be found here:

A Vacation From My Problems (A Sept. 2010 Trip Report)

It's also below, in my signature line. Thanks!

(pirate: welcome)

Page 1 is updated with your TR :thumbsup2

We were able to get a standard view at BWV for Spring Break in April. It will be our first time there. I have heard good things. Anything specific that we should do? Good luck on getting the room.

This would be our first stay at BWV also... so still not sure of all the happenings... which is going to make it even more fun! :cool1: And thanks for the luck ;)

Man, it's raining outside..

Pouring in BUCKETS this morning. Even have a tornado warning right now. It's moments like these that remind me of Forest Gump when Lt. Dan is in the crow's nest of the ship.... pirate:

Ummm... we're GUYS... I thought this was a requirement :confused3 And it's especially difficult to retrain the noggin after being with a bunch of the same gendered GUYS for any length of time :lmao: I'm sure I have said something along the same lines, but it's too early in the morning to think of one :surfweb:

Regarding "celebrations"

Yeah, I'd be so tempted to use that and start with a resevation for eight and keep calling to cut back on the number without any explanation for what made them go "missing"...

Have fun man!!!! Wave as you fly over!!:lmao:

Yeah, I'm just glad I didn't let one of the **deleted** words fly:lmao: (Which I have been known to do on occasion:littleangel:)

I'll do you one better. So, do you remember the song by Bobby McFarin, "Don't Worry, Be Happy"? When the song came out I was an angry teenager (as many were) and I despised the song so I made up my own lyrics. Every once in a while the song comes on the radio or I hear a tiny bit of it and I sing my version quietly and to myself. Apparently my son heard it at one point or another and kept it to himself until he was an a Young Marines regimental encampment with not only 35 members of OUR unit but with a large percentage of SIX OTHER units as well. Everything was going well and at our post-encampment party (we won 1st place in 6/7 events) everyone was talking about their favorite part of the trip. One little boy stood up and proudly proclaimed that his favorite thing was the "throat slitting song" that Shepard's dad taught him.

*sigh*

"He're a little song I wrote, it's gonna make you wanna slit your throat.. don't worry... life's crappy"

Yeah - and I wasn't even ON that encampment and I got in trouble.

So this morning I'm reaching a milestone, and next Monday I'll be reaching a very different milestone. This past Monday I reached another very different milestone as well. It's just a week of milestones I guess. Life is so full of them. Some we celebrate. Some we mourn. Some we laugh about. Some we toast. Some we just shrug our shoulders and say, "whatever". Some challenge us more than we bargained for. Some stretch us and make us better. Some are fun! Some are not. Some bring about a bit of reflection...

This morning I mark 9,000 posts here on the DIS; many, many of which have been right here inside the DDC - in all 5 of the threads that have made up this amazing club. I've enjoyed getting to know many of you virtually, as well as having had the pleasure of meeting a couple of you, and speaking with a couple of you on the phone. It's an honor and a privilege to be a part of this auspicious group. As other dads have so eloquently said before - we are a diverse group. We each have our own Disney histories to share - some longer than others, some more diverse than others, but just the same - Disney histories.

As many of you know from my various posts, I have been a Cast Member myself at the place that started it all - Walt's park - Disneyland. I've also been fortunate to be able to visit the Vacation Kingdom of the world - Walt Disney World neary 50 times, and am looking forward to that 50th trip, and beyond. Some of you have called me, or referred to me, as our own little DDC archivist or historian because of those experiences. That has warmed my heart. Knowing that some of what I have to share has helped others in planning or preparing for their own journeys to the World or the Land in some small way- or at least inspiring them to consider making a trip to the Land.

I have enjoyed being a part of this crazy bunch of devoted dads or granddads. It is great to be able to come here and chat about nothing at all, or to share some struggles, hurts, or other family stuff and know that you guys go through a lot of the same junk. Through various illnesses and deaths we've shared, we've grown closer together, and it's privilege to share in that with you. My own dad was not really "present" for many of my formative years, and ultimately left my mother for another woman. As a result of my own family history, I've worked extra hard to make sure that I am there for my sons and daughter and absolutely cherish my own wife. I don't want to repeat those mistakes or repeat the cycle - I want to break it. And I am so appreciative of all of you who are doing the same thing. Each day brings its own challenges, but it is such a great feeling knowing that I have this virtual family of friends to come and chat and hang out with. I really look forward to being able to meet more of you in person in the future. I'm really looking forward to the December trip, and really hope to be able to make some of those connections.

Next week I also begin an entirely new decade of life. Another milestone. The year in which many people say life begins at, which some others say is the crest of the hill. We'll see which is true. No matter which it turns out to be, I know that I'll still enjoy hanging out on here posting and posting about this, that, and anything else that comes to mind. And knowing that there are a whole bunch of friends on here going through similar life stuff, and like me, wishing they could get back to their "happy place" sooner...rather than later. I wish I could be there for my birthday - being at a Disney destination on your birthday just has some added fun to it - but that can't happen this year... but I can at least get my little fix here on the boards.

So to all of you who have been around since thread 1 whom I've had the pleasure of interacting with thanks for being there and for all of the laughs and fun. And for the rest who have come on board in threads 2, 3, 4 and now in 5 - it's been a great time so far. I'm looking forward to getting to know more of you, and for the fun to continue in 6 and beyond. And most especially to our esteemed founder, the one who started it all with his wonderful curiousity about other fanatical Disney Dads - thanks Fanatic! You probably didn't even realize what you were starting way back in 2007 - with these threads, T-shirts, our Facebook presence, our own website and a number of meets under belts with more coming up on the horizon. It's been a great ride so far!

Happy 9000/40 to me (now to wonder how soon will be before I reach 10,000)...
