How I Survived 11 Days at WDW with a Disney-Resistant Husband **2/20 THE END **

Happy belated birthday! I hope everyone cooperated and gave you a wonderful day, even if it didn't turn out exactly as you'd planned!

Just returned from a week at WDW and, based upon your recommendation, I had the filet with mushroom risotto at Le Cellier. It was wonderful! I removed the few whole mushrooms and enjoyed the tasty risotto.

My partner and I really like the Canada pavilion, especially the song "My Canada." We wonder if Canadians are fond of it as well. I love the American Experience and hope that other nationalities are proud of their national pavilions at Epcot.

I'm hoping your special day goes well. That early morning picture is too funny. :rotfl: Everyone looks a little sleepy.

It is sort of strange that the CM "has" to bring you a cupcake once they are aware it is your birthday but guess they could get reprimanded or something :confused3 At least they didn't make a big deal out of it - it is sort of embarrassing to be acknowledged at the Parks and restaurants but then it can be fun too.

Loved your pic of the Boardwalk!

Hi Trish,
Looks like a great start so far on your Birthday morning! The sleepy picture is sort of funny . I love Cape May Breakfast, we ate there in June. Definitely a family favorite. PP above is right, no Mickey at Cape May. We did have Minnie, Goofy, Donald and Pluto though. Didn't you love the 5 minute walk to international gateway? My family wants to stay at Beach Club again. Waiting to hear more about your day in Epcot :goodvibes.

I'm so glad that you were able to have such a nice birthday breakfast and I hope that the rest of your day was just as magical! I love the picture of your DD pushing the stroller, she looks like she is just so carefree.;)

Sounds like a nice birthday morning so far! I hope it continues!!! Cape May looks nice - I just love the beach wear on the characters. It's definitely on my list of places to try. :goodvibes

What a good way to start your birthday! I love the pictures of your walk! Your making me super excited for my Boardwalk stay in March with DD and my May girls trip to Beach Club!

I hope your Birthday went as planned!

I am loving your TR! I can relate to your DH's attitude about Disney. My DH is the same way. :( We went in May also and had a great time although we spent more time at the resort than I would have liked.

Awww...sounds like your birthday morning started off fantastically! :goodvibes Here's to hoping that the rest of your day went as planned...

Cape May looks nice...glad to hear that your family had a nice breakfast and start to the day! :woohoo:

Ohhhhh....I hope your were able to get that cloudberry horn...so good! :thumbsup2

You are right - it was a great breakfast, and great way to start the day!:) Unfortunately, I did not get to eat a cloudberry horn at any point during the entire trip. But it was still a nice breakfast nonetheless!:)

High on my list of priorities for my next trip is an Illuminations viewing with latte and cloudberry horn in hand!;)

You have me excited for my next trip, hopefully in May!!!

Yay! May is awesome...you will love it!:goodvibes

DD is 22 now so we have been going when she finishes college for the semester. It is a lot less crowded at Disney and on a cruise ship at that time too. Next cruise is booked the day after she graduates college next year. :cool1: Pretty good graduation present.

Awesome graduation gift for sure!!!:thumbsup2

What a great birthday breakfast!
I definitely want to try Cape May next trip.

Cape May is a great little place, especially if you are in the area.;)

Awww, what a nice birthday morning! Love Chris rocking the pink Minnie backpack in that first pic, lol.
Definitely did NOT think servers "had" to bring you a cupcake for your birthday-- pretty sure she made that up!

You know...I got the impression she wasn't joking.:upsidedow I imagine somewhere at some point there was probably a guest with feigned that they didn't want attention for their birthday, but really did, and then got upset that they didn't get a cupcake when the person at the table over did.

Ah Epcot, my favorite place on earth! I make it a habit to ride Soarin' 2-3 times per visit. I am looking forward to eating at the Japanese Hibachi restaurant when I go in December. Best Japanese food I've had!

I wish we could have ridden Soarin' more than once this trip! On past trips I have always had at least 2 rides on it per trip.

I was so sorry to have to give up Teppan Edo for the Beach this trip. Can't wait to eat there in future!:)

Happy belated birthday! I hope everyone cooperated and gave you a wonderful day, even if it didn't turn out exactly as you'd planned!

It was a great birthday. They always are when I am in sunny Florida, and even better when at Disney!:goodvibes

Yay! Another convert to the mushroom risotto fillet. I take it that just like me, you don't like mushrooms based on the fact you left the whole mushrooms behind. Who would have thought, right?

As for the Canadian pavillion, they reshot and updated the film in 2007. Before that, it was grossly outdated, with the original film being shoot back in 1979!:scared1: When they updated the film, they also updated the "Canada...You're a Lifetime Journey" song and had it sung by Canadian Idol winner Eva Avila.

Both the new film and the song are huge improvements!:) You would have felt that you were going back in time stepping into that pavillion back in 2006!:rotfl:

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that your birthday goes as planned (or better)!

Thanks!!:goodvibes

I'm hoping your special day goes well. That early morning picture is too funny. :rotfl: Everyone looks a little sleepy.

Thank you! Yes, I think it is a good combination of sleepiness and hunger in that photo. We were the 1st guests to check in - they couldn't open fast enough for us that morning!

I actually think that there must be a rule like that. Our server sincerely apologized to me when she said that she still had to bring the cupcake, even though I knew it would just be going to waste.

But if truth be told, it is kinda fun to get a cupcake on your birthday! :goodvibes

It is a funny sleepy morning picture, isn't it? They were sitting in the little chairs in front of the tv playing the Disney cartoons for the kids.

Thanks for the info on the character line-up at Cape May!:)

And I completely agree - that 5 minute walk to the International Gateway from the Beach Club is pure perfection!:goodvibes

I'm so glad that you were able to have such a nice birthday breakfast and I hope that the rest of your day was just as magical! I love the picture of your DD pushing the stroller, she looks like she is just so carefree.;)

I love that photo of Katie pushing Declan in the stroller too!:goodvibes The start of a great day at Epcot!

Cape May is nice...I like the beach wear as well as it is a little unique from anywhere else.:)

What a good way to start your birthday! I love the pictures of your walk! Your making me super excited for my Boardwalk stay in March with DD and my May girls trip to Beach Club!

I hope your Birthday went as planned!

You have got 2 pretty fantastic-sounding trips coming up for sure! Once I get done writing this TR I hope to get back up to speed on everyone else's TRs and PTRs!;)

I am loving your TR! I can relate to your DH's attitude about Disney. My DH is the same way. :( We went in May also and had a great time although we spent more time at the resort than I would have liked.

Thanks for posting, and Welcome!:welcome:

I am sorry to hear that your husband is also a resister like mine.:sad2: But at least it helps to know that we are in good company!

Someone takes a First Flight on Soarin'

After a quick 5 minute walk from the Beach Club, we were entering Epcot via the International Gateway. This little perk, along with entrance to Stormalong Bay, will definitely keep us coming back to the Beach Club.

We were a little late getting into the Park and had missed rope drop by about 5-10 minutes.

On the way into Future World, we spotted the Kim Possible kiosks. Katie & I had a trip to WDW in March 2009, shortly after this attraction debuted. Although we had wanted to try out the new attraction, we simply ran out of time. So we had plans to check this out in the afternoon once World Showcase opened up.

IMG_5543.jpg

But for now....we were making a beeline to our favourite attraction in Epcot...Soarin'!

This would be Declan's first flight on Soarin' as he now had finally reached 40 inches. We were all pretty excited.

Declan knows the music from Soarin' quite well as the "4 Parks, One World" CD gets frequent airtime in our car. In fact, as a result of Katie and I frequently shouting: "Kayakers", "Skiers", "Golf course", "Orange Trees", "Horses", "San Diego Harbour", "LA", "Disneyland", "Tinkerbell" at various stages of the song, Declan even knew what scenes accompanied certain parts of the soundtrack before he even rode the attraction!

The stampede to Soarin' first thing in the morning at Rope Drop is really quite a sight. And once we got over the Bridge into Future World, we converged with the rest of the masses heading to the Land Pavillion.

IMG_5544.jpg

I love how the Cast Members greet everyone at the bottom of the escalators with the Mickey Hands and smiling faces, trying to put everyone in a good mood for the day.

Unfortunately, I hadn't yet learned that my normal Park touring plans don't work with Chris. I always fastpass the big attractions first, hop in the stand-by line, and then ride again later in the day on the fastpass. But on this trip with Chris, we did not ride anything twice -we simply weren't spending enough time at the Parks. I either hadn't yet caught onto that at this point in the trip, or perhaps I was just being overly optimistic that our Park touring would work differently today. Whatever the reason, I ended up wasting over 10 minutes in the Fastpass line getting fastpasses that we never ended up using.

As an experienced WDW vetran knows, it is not so much the time you lose getting the fastpasses that is the problem. It is the 10-15 minutes of stampeding crowds hitting the stand-by line ahead of you that is the issue.

So why did it take me so long to get Soarin' fastpasses that morning? Well, it probably should have only taken about 5-8 minutes to go through the line-up of about 20 people ahead of me at the dispensers. However, just as I was only 3 or 4 people from the start of the line, the machine malfunctioned. Of course, no one wanted to abandon ship and start back at the end of another line, so we waited for a bit as a CM came over and tried to get the machine working. No luck. So we all then had to scurry to the back of another longer line-up.

When I was about 5 people from the front of my second line, the fastpass machine right beside me also went down. That is when a man who had been behind me in the 1st fastpass line, and had moved into this new line-up with the 2nd broken fastpass machine completely lost it and started venting at the CM.

He overreacted, no question. But I would have been just as frustrated. These machines malfunction frequently, and it bites when you wait in not one, but two line-ups, almost getting to the front of the line each time only to have the machine break and to have to start over again. As I was almost to the front of my line-up, I told him to give me his park tickets and I got fastpasses for both of our families. Then I quickly went to pick-up Chris and the kids who were parked on the nearby benches waiting for me. Chris was already in a less-than-happy mood because of the line-ups and wait, but I chose to ignor that, grabbed the family and headed for the stand-by line.

IMG_5545.jpg

Fortunately the stand-by wait wasn't too long - maybe 20 minutes. I used the time to chat with the kids, and further build Declan's excitement for the ride.

Although I was prepared to wait for it, we lucked out and got front and center anyway. Perfect!

Pretty soon Patrick was giving us our last minute pre-flight briefings, and we were let into the loading area. Then...we were airborne!

IMG_5548.jpg

I love that feeling when our seats starts moving forward and then rising up, up, up, and then looking out through the clouds as the flight begins. And the music for this attraction is just perfection!

Of course, Declan LOVED this ride! He was even lucky enough to catch the Mickey golfball which shot up over the Palm Springs golf course.

IMG_5551.jpg

After that, we were off to Test Track. Once again, this was another first for Declan. Being a fan of cars, and anything fast, he was quite keen on this attraction as well.

IMG_5553.jpg

IMG_5554.jpg

Apparently Chris was quite keen on this attraction as well. I never realized just how much until I saw this picture. Maybe he let his Disney enthusiasm come through when he thought I couldn't see him!

Image0941.jpg

After that, our thrill-seeking adventure continued with Mission Space. Once again, another first for Declan. It was so great this trip not to have to leave someone behind as we rode the thrill rides.

IMG_5556.jpg

IMG_5557.jpg

As Declan is a big space and astronaut fan, we stopped and did some shopping at the Giftshop on the way out, buying a number of things which we sent back to the Beach Club. Love that service!

IMG_5555.jpg

Then we were off to Spaceship Earth.

IMG_5559.jpg

And took a tour of our Future.

IMG_5563.jpg

Unfortunately, I missed documenting Katie and Chris' future.

(Continued from last post)

By this point, it was just after 11am. We had made pretty good time hitting the 3 major headliners in Future World, and also getting in a ride on Spaceship Earth. On the way over to World Showcase, we stopped to admire some of the flowers and displays set up throughout the Park for the Flower and Garden Festival.

IMG_5574.jpg

The kids and I also stopped in the Butterfly pavillion. Chris chose to wait outside on a bench.

Once we finished up looking at the Butterflies, we found Chris waiting for us, loaded the kids into the stroller, and took off for Mexico.

So far so good on the Birthday morning at Epcot! It's great when the whole family can ride everything together! Waiting to hear about your Dismeet and World Showcase!

Great update!
You had fantastic timing with the major Epcot attractions.
I love the Four Parks One World CD. It's a great dose of Disney in the car or while I'm busy doing things at home. LOVE it!
