Nachi Cocom - water for kids

We've booked spots for our family 3 adults and 2 kids (5 and 2) for our December 11th cruise. I have been so excited about the trip. However, when reading old threads tonight I read a 2008 review that suggested that the water dropped off quite suddenly after the beach and it wasn't safe for that person's children to play in the water. I have not heard anything at all negative about this beach in recent threads. Can anyone reassure me?

My family absolutely loves Nachi Cocom! :lovestruc The beach is subject to what is happening with the ocean conditions. When we were there last December...the beach was wonderful with no drop-offs...clear blue water...it was perfect! But as the conditions of the ocean change...so can the water...the sand...etc...:confused3 There is no rhyme or reason as to predict what it will be like when you dock there...just know that Nachi is the best place to visit (Our group of 14 voted it the best beach excursion!) :thumbsup2

The best part about Nachi is that there is a swimming pool and hot/luke warm tub. So if the ocean conditions are not favorable...the pool will be very inviting!

Enjoy your trip to Nachi! BTW...we will be there in exactly two weeks from today!!! Can't wait!!! :yay:

If the child can swim it shouldn't be a problem. Great Bay at St. Maarten dropped off like that and it wasn't a problem. You should be fine.

Our beach chairs were to the far left side of Nachi Cocom (as you face the water) and we found there to be quite a large shallow area out that way. Our kids played there in the water near the beach (they were 5 and just barely 3 at the time) and didn't have problems. We also rented a little float and took that out in the water and I recall it being pretty shallow even for me.

Plus there is the pool which has an awesome shallow section that my kids loved to play in (almost like a little splash/wading/sunbathing platform). I've posted pictures of Nachi when we were there on our 12/12/09 cruise if you search my name for Nachi related posts.

Do you recall if they have floats for rent or use? Just wondering about whether we need to bring things for the kids. Small life jackets? I plan to buy buckets on the ship. Any other water toys they have there? Also, how many things at Nachi are an extra charge? Just wondering how much cash to bring?

Can anyone answer the question about floats, sand toys a little (toddler/preschool) sized lifejackets at Nachi?

So so excited to go there!

We are on the Magic Halloween cruise at the end of October. People on our meet board started talking about Nachi as the day we dock happens to be one of the busiest ones of the year in the port. So, it ends up that people on our cruise have booked the whole beach at Nachi. Over 100 of us are going and we are having a pirate treasure hunt for our children. It should be great fun! We will report on how it went once we get back!pirate:pirate:pirate:

Hi Everyone! I posted back about Nachi a few posts ago. We just returned from our second trip there on September 3rd. It was wonderful! :goodvibes No drop-offs - the ocean was calm. We were able to purchase floats there...the kids and my husband used them for looking at fish. We found huge shells this time also! :cool2: I am not sure about life-vests...but I would probably bring my own for my kids...if you need them...or just bring water-wings...that would work well in the pool and the calm ocean. I did not see any sand toys...again...I would bring whatever my kids would need. You can purchase water excursions at Nachi...but not a lot of this going on because the beach/pool/food/drinks at Nachi are great just as they are.

Oh...and the drinks were excellent! :thumbsup2 We met a bunch of awesome people in the pool and hot tub...ate some good food. As you can tell...it was the best port stop for us...second time in a row! Carlos was our server...he is top-notch! :yay:

Can't wait to go back...just need to plan another cruise there! :rolleyes1

Here are some pic's:

This time we asked for a spot on the beach near the swimming pool. You can't see it in these pic's, but further down the beach it is very open with lot's of room to spread out and have fun!

If you have any questions, please ask...I might have an answer...or someone else might know. Enjoy!

If you wouldn't mind could you please post a link to your Nachi pictures? I have tried several related searches using your board name or Nachi and have come up with nothing. TIA :goodvibes

I would love to see them too!! :)

We went to Nachi and loved it there too! Our boys still talk about going back. The bartender was so nice to them and served them drinks at the swim up bar too! DH went diving while we were there - he had a blast! DH and the boys also took a banana boat ride, and I had a beach massage. The food and drinks were great... it was just a wonderful day! (Just make sure you bring extra cash!) :rolleyes1

What do you need the extra cash for?

I thought food and drinks were included in the price? Do you tip for each drink? Or one tip at the end of the day for the server who took care of you all day? Or are tips not expected?

Do you recall how much the float rentals were?

We will be at Nachi Cocum for the first time in mid-October and can't wait!!

We did tip at the end. We tipped our server and the bartender. The bartender was really nice to our 3 boys and gave them a lot of drinks in the pool bar. All of the food and drinks were included....

The massage, banana boat, and dive were all extra. They only took cash. There is a whole menu of extra activities you can do there. I don't remember how much everything was though.
