Resort Lounges - Are children allowed?

We're staying at POFQ and on one of our downtime nights, I'd like to sit in the Scat Cat Club and have a drink with DH and listen to the music. I see that there are tables that are apart from the bar; are children allowed to sit at these tables and hang out with us?

When I was there in June, as I was walking by I noticed a family with children sitting and enjoying the music.

Yes. I took my 6 year old and my 2 year old to the WL lounge in her stroller. All I could think of was that line from Sweet Home Alabama - "You have a baby...in a bar." But really, it was no big deal. Other people were there with kids.

DH was watching a football game in the lounge while I was getting the kids ready for bed. I was tired of this nightly routine and just decided that I would really like a glass of wine. So, I took the kids down there in their pjs. I thought that I would just get a glass and go back to the room, but we sat at a table for a while and it was fine.

I just saw someone's resort report at POR, and I think that she had her kids in the lounge...is this in the lounge?

I think they are allowed in the bar lounge area until a certain time, but they are not allowed to sit at the actual bar.

I am not 100% sure because the laws vary by state (and sometimes county).

I do recall this being asked before and someone posted a link to the Florida laws.

I've taken my kids in before... hey, sometimes mommy needs a drink or two at the end of the day! But we're pretty much quick in and out and really don't sit around. I just feel that people are there to unwind and relax and get away from kids, and don't need mine in there.

Scat Cat Club is a lounge, the tables apart from the bar are ideal for a family to sit at, PO lounge where Piano Bob plays, kids are encouraged to be there, now.... if you went to Rix Lounge at the Coronado Springs, that is a whole different story, that is a nightclub/bar nobody under 21

I wish this had been enforced last month when we stopped by Mizner's Lounge at the GF. There were several children sitting at the bar, and it made it very uncomfortable for those of us over 21 to sit and enjoy a cocktail at the bar without feeling the need to be on best behavior.

I feel children should never be allowed to sit at the bar. Those seats should be for "of-age" folks who are going to enjoy a drink. I do remember being a kid and thinking what a thrill/treat it was to sit on a swiveling bar stool...but as an adult, I want my bars to be, well...adult.

Jennasis, I completely agree with you except at WDW. If the bar is going to charge my kids the same price for a drink as an adult, I feel like the kids are on equal playing field. Not that we plop our kids at the bar typically. But we did enjoy it once on a rainy afternoon in the Tambu lounge and the kids did have fun.

I would never sit them at the bar. I understand what it's like to want to have some adult time and I wouldn't want someone's kids intruding on mine. I figured at the tables, they'd be fine.

If they started to get loud, I would definitely leave.

My aunt used to bar tend at a famous bar in the Bronx and I remember she would watch my sister and I, while she was working, after school. Nothing made me feel more grown up than sipping on a Shirley Temple and eating pretzels while sitting on a swivel chair at the bar! Aaaah, good times, good times.

I MIGHT call Kids Nite Out, I'm not sure yet. It would just be for DH and I to have a few cocktails and listen to some music. My kids are pretty good, and if anything, I think they'd just pass out at a table in the back.

Kids are allowed in Scat Cats OP. He even has pics on his website of kids having a great time listening to him. Eliot is a great sax player and very nice person. Check him out on youtube. There's one with 2 boys and Eliot doing Minnie the Moocher.

I don't think it's a weird question. Pretty much all bars/pubs/clubs here serve bistro meals, so taking kids is common.

Well, just like in your state there are oddities with the blue laws (everything closed on sundays unless you're a private club and in that case you can be open whenever AND lock your doors...I knew a woman who was a bartender at one in the mid-90s, she was shocked at what went on behind those locked doors!), in WA there are oddities as well. So YES I'd take DS into a "bar", and do, because here it means half or more of your income is from food, which means that you're also a restaurant, which means you cannot discriminate by age for the entire day... and most of THOSE places also have full liquor licenses! It's *pubs* that only sell beer and wine that I cannot take DS to...it's the STRANGEST thing, but it is what it is!

Now, even at the "bars" I can't take DS TO the bar in the bar...tables only. We'd all get kicked out, and if there were an inspector there at the time the place could get fined, if I did that. Here.

And then there are "brewpubs" which are a different animal as well and kids are allowed. Just not AT the bar.

But we absolutely love going to places like that so DH and DS can have their Izze sodas and I can have a nice microbrew and we can have some food.

So obviously I'd take DS wherever he's allowed at WDW.

Kids are allowed at some lounges (which is really crazy when you think about it). I don't mind when kids are there, BUT do not complain about how loud or "vulgar" adults are being. We had a mom yell at us because we were talking about someone being a pain in the a** and a b**ch. We were talking at normal volumes in a private conversation. After she left the bartender was saying he didn't know why she had brought the kids down 3 nights in a row.

Kids are definitely permitted in lounges. Legally, I don't know if they are allowed to sit at the bar itself. I don't see any reason a child needs to sit there when plenty of tables are available which are more suitable for a family. I know where I live an establishment can get fined if children sit at the bar.

When staying at the YC, my children and I frequently end up at the Crew's Cup at the end of the night. We watch Illuminations at Epcot, walk back to the resort and stop at the lounge for a drink (an "adult beverage" for me and some sort of fruity, non-alcoholic (of course) drink for them). We then sit and talk about the day before heading off to bed. It is one of our favorite things to do at WDW and, if I forget to stop, the kids often remind me.

So, yes, you can take children into the resort lounges, even at night.

I don't think it's crazy when there's entertainment to allow children in a lounge. There are plenty of entertainment venues here that are classified as "lounges" that serve alcohol & light food; people under 21 are allowed in if accompanied by an adult.
