I will be staying 4 nights in YC and 2 nights in AKL. I'm considering taking my Laptop so that I have an access to this amazing Disboards with amazing information and helpful community. Do you know how much WDW resorts charge for Wi-Fi in your room? Is it free in the Lobby? Any suggestions? I'll be in WDW in 14 days! :cool1:

No WiFi in rooms. Sorry. But there is internet at $9.99 per 24 hrs

When we were at the YC this past January the WiFi in the lobby is free. In your room there is a wired highspeed connection for $10 per 24hr period. I was able to use by iPod Touch via WiFi very comfortably from the lounge in the YC lobby.

Since the AKL is not a convention resort it is my understanding that there is no WiFi just a highspeed wired connection in your room for $10 for a 24hr period.

Thanks everyone for the info. I will definitely use the Lounge at YC. By the time I'm in AKL I would know if I really need the internet or not. $10 / day could be used for something more Disney at my precious stay at WDW

Dialup is free. Just load up Netzero before you leave home, play with it and get used to it. When you get to WDW, let it find the access numbers for you, choose one and go online. Local calls are free, hence free internet. Quite adequate for email, Dising, and airline checkin.

What I did to help with the cost is sign up for 24 hr Wifi in the the evening like say at 6pm then check my email right before it is up the next day then sign up on the third day. I think for our 7 day trip we paid for 3 sessions of 24 hrs.

That's still $30 that could be used in the parks, for food, or drink. Just to check email, dialup works just fine.

Here are two options I do when traveling.

1. Most cell phones allow you to hook them up to your laptop for internet access. You can add the service onto your cell plan for the month (usually between $10 and $30) and then cancel it before the month is up. This way you get wifi for your whole trip for the price of 1 day connecting at the hotel.

OR

2. I bring a wireless router. Then i connect the in room Ethernet wire to the wireless router. This way i can use my laptop all over the room and sometime several places in the hotel (instead of being stuck at the desk).
Of course i suggest putting a password in place so that not anybody can connect.

I love Disney, but I don't understand why something as simple as wifi hasn't been implemented across all their properties. Especially the deluxe resorts.

Does anyone know if you can access disneyworld.com for free from the rooms? We usually stay DVC so we get free internet, and like to be able to switch ADRs and such depending on our mood. Net stay is at GF and I'd prefer not to have to pay for internet to do that, I do email and everything else on my phone except can't access the ADR system.

Thanks!

No. It's not free. Once you pay, you will be taken to the Disneyworld home page, but you have to "connect" to make anything happen.

.

If you have a phone that can do this, you also have a phone that you can check your email on.

Seriously, if ALL you need to do is check email, just use your phone!

I think in the contemporary you can access WDW.com for free, and theres even a computer in the room.

For the same reason they don't have a decent line-up of TV channels offered. They don't really want guests on their computers; they want them in parks spending money. They have no real imperative for offering it and no real competition necessitating such a move.

You will find from the payment page that you can in fact access some Disney pages for free - I know the Photopass page is one of them.
