Dr. Jones and the Spitting Camel - Link to Alaska Cruise TR 9/18

RED EYE? I took one to Atlantis and spent most of my first day of vacation napping and feeling crappy! I'm considering it for our cruise flight to Miami, but going an extra night early so we can arrive on the ship rested! I'm glad to see you're off! Hope you have a good first day!

What a whirlwind of days leading up to arriving at the airport!!! Glad you were able to get your haircut and sneak the ME tags on the bags without the kids seeing them.

Is that a skateboard on T's back??? I can't imagine lugging that to the World, but then I guess I am not a 17-year-old boy.

Wow... I've never departed for a trip at night... I am usually doing all the running around the night before our a.m. departure. And basically have unlimited time to get everything done (unless I want to sleep...).

Very stressfull... But it sounds like you made it all work & with time for dinner! :thumbsup2

Can't wait to hear how the flight went! popcorn::

You had a busy busy few days leading up to departure day. But it's always like that! A margarita before a long flight sounds perfect ;)

Can't wait to hear how your flight went.

I would love to try a Disney cruise. However Jeff's response to the kids cruise free promotion released today was....I think I've had enough of vacation with kids for a while.

:rotfl:

I owe him an adult only trip and a cruise is NOT his idea of that!

Are you going to book at the 11 month out window since it's your home resort?

:rotfl:

I'd like to try DCL, but the lack of a casino is somewhat of a drawback. I want to do a med cruise, but prefer RCL's itinerary.

Where would you and Jeff like to go for an adult only trip?

Yes, I'm booking BLT at the 11 month window, which is next week. I'm considering adding on two nights at either the GF, WL, Poly, or AKL. We'll see...

Oh my goodness! you were right about it being a flurry before you left! I bet you were so relieved to finally get on the plane!

I remember your FB post about the margarita because I remember being jealous :rotfl2: There is no way I could get DH to eat mexican before flying! Things might get ugly :scared1::sick:

The big kids wanted coffee! :scared1: Really!? Did they think you'd say yes?! :lmao:

Hope the flight went well! That's a long flight! I hope it wasn't another night from h-e double toothpicks!!

Whew. What a whirlwind day!! My goodness.

I'm so glad you were able to squeeze all that last minute stuff with minor drama!

Oh man, what a day!

I have trouble sleeping on planes, so Red Eye's don't work real well for me. I can see how they got their name.

But at least you're on your way!

They aren't what I'd call fun but in this case a necessary evil. Honestly I thought the day was rather calm (compared to other flurries before trips!)

I'm exhuasted reading about departure day. I HATE flying so it is a tension filled day for me and we only have a 2-1/2 hour flight. Can't wait to read about the arrival.

Oh that would be hard, I'd probably want early flights in that case so I didn't have to think about it too much.

A bit late...but jumping on board. At least you haven't arrived at the World yet - that's my favorite part!:)

Hope the flight goes ok....

And thank goodness your hairdresser could fit you in...nothing like a nice blowout to start off the vacation on the right foot!;)

Hi Trish! Glad you made it over :cool1:

LOL on the blowout. I actually almost always dislike my hair right after a cut, aka the blowout part. Love the cut, not the rest. And over the course of a 5 hour flight it negates anything anyways, I turn into static head. Pretty much like this. :scared1:

Though with the FL humidity I'm not sure the cut helped all that much :(

Another great update. I can't wait to be going through all that hassle myself. But we have a relatively short flight. Can't wait to hear how everyone did with the red eye.

I confess, I look forward to the hassle because it means I'm almost there! And this was a pretty easy day since we had the whole day. Usually I'm up all night the night before and going into it short on sleep but that wasn't the case this time. It was nice!

I guess I am behind already! I don't know what I just read.. my head is spinning!!!! :rotfl2:

I can't believe the amount of changes you had before the trip even started!!! :scared1:

Off to read the next update! (I'm cheating and using the links! :thumbsup2)

EDIT:: I've never took a redeye and I'm not sure that I would like it. I mean I can't sleep on planes as it is. I'm scared that if I shut my eyes I will never open them again. LOL

You were sure busy on your departure day. If I tried to fit all that in, I would never of made the flight! LOL

Links are a good thing! I'm pretty sure they'll kick you off the plane if you don't wake up on your own. Yeah, it was too many changes although there were also too many factors beyond my control! It all worked out though.

We did our first and last red-eye on our trip to WDW last May and can I say never again? Never again! I hope you fared better than we did. I felt like a zombie the next day. Can't wait to read all about it. popcorn::

We actually chose it deliberately to force the time change, the question is, did it work?

In 09 we arrived at 10:30 at night, 1 am by the time we went to bed and I'm not sure anyone fell asleep right away and it set a not so good time schedule for the trip we could never break anyone out of. Or at least the teens.

Then again, was it really the time difference? Or just teens?

Great post Cynthia! :thumbsup2 I love departure day or at least the day before and the day of. :goodvibes It's always so hectic and exciting!!! :yay:
Yours sounds like what most departure day's sound like.
Although.....no more putting off hair, pedi's and brows until the last second. :upsidedow

I would have gladly done the hair earlier but my stylist was out and 2 weeks prior was too early/close to my previous cut. I'd have rather have done the pedi on the day of departure so it would have held up a little longer on the trip. But you take what you can get huh!

I would say it was a pretty typical departure day and actually for me, calmer than most!

Well we did it on purpose to force the time change since the evening flight had really worked against us the previous year in that area.

Phew!!! I am exhausted reading all of what you had to get done before you left!!! :faint: That was a lot of running around!! ::yes:: Happy that you are at the airport and finally on your way!!! :woohoo:

Yes it is a skateboard. Where exactly he thought he'd get to use it, we weren't quite sure. I had done some research and gotten info but it had been shot down earlier so I was a little surprised to see it. But hey, if he wanted to lug it....I actually do think Disney is missing the boat by not having a skate park there.

The ME tag part was funny actually, I gave Jeff, K&T each their tags to stick on so we didn't hold up the line and they couldn't figure out how to do it. I was (seriously) worried that K's would come off in flight!

I often have that, the all nighter the night before. This was MUCH more relaxing on the front end. We were actually at the table with a drink much earlier than expected, it was cool (and RARE for us). The only thing that I didn't get done was a 5:30 pilates class I was going to try to sneak in. With the haircut time being off it just threw me off just enough to have to let that go.

See the lack of the casino is a draw for me! Jeff wants to do Australia, although we were discussing Bora Bora and Fiji lol.

I'll need to crunch numbers. August isn't really the right time for Australia but the time frame he wants would be a challenge with kids and childcare and school, August is the best time for us to go for multiple reasons.

:rotfl: I admit, I didn't even think about that, probably a good thing I didn't think about it.

Well Taylor wanted a Mocha and K a Frappuccino and they didn't see what the big deal was. Of course now that I think about it they probably had coke with their dinner...we were just trying not to add insult to injury!

very minor drama, that's always the wild card and it was pretty smooth (for us anyway!)

On the way is a wonderful thing!!!!!!!!!!!!!

loved the update, i have to ask, is that the seattle airport?

if so that is where we have our layover when we fly to hawaii next spring.

Pretty airport!

Did Taylor bring a skateboard? Is that what I see on his back?

So, DID everyone sleep?

I would think the Red Eye would be a good way to travel. I have done it a couple times coming home. Of course, I was able to go home and sleep, which you were not!

Can't wait to hear about your arrival to the resort!

Wow. That was some serious multi-tasking going on there!

I hope the flight went well. :goodvibes

It is! what airline are you flying? Depending on the airline you may or may not be in the main terminal. If you aren't, and have time, head there. It is beautiful. I didn't take any pics of the main area but it's like a giant hangar with the entire front made of glass over looking the tarmac and the "grand civic space" seating area looks out on it. There are several good dining options.

When I used to travel for work I'd actually often arrive early enough that I could eat there believe it or not.

It is pretty! Funny that both you and Dan commented on it as I didn't think I captured it at all, it was just kid pics. There is also some great art throughout it. Slowly the satellites are getting updated.

He did bring a skateboard! Question is...did it get used? could it get used?

Well, the purpose of the red eye was to NOT sleep once we got there so (and sleep on the plane)....you'll have to wait and see how that worked out!

Wow. That was some serious multi-tasking going on there!

LOL! Not any more so than usual, the tasks were just different.

Busy, busy, busy! I love the days leading up to the trip. All the last minute stuff, it means you'll be leaving soon.

I hope everyone got some sleep.

I love those last days too unless I get crushed at work at the same time. Thankfully it wasn't too bad for me but it was for Jeff poor guy!

we are flying alaska air...they even sent me a thing to get into there airline lounge which we are planning on using during our layover on the way out.

:cool1:

Australia, Bora Bora, and Fiji are all great options.

They are. They are however likely not in the budget which probably looks more like the Oregon Coast with the kids and something less ambitious for just the 2 of us. What though I don't know.

Cool, that should put you near the main terminal regardless of gate.
