**Tie Dye Mickey ears shirts directions**NEW NEW PICS LAST PAGE**

These are my trial run shirts.....I am impressed with how they turned out but I think they have way to much white.....how do I fix this???

Here are the steps I did
1. Pre-washed shirts
2. Sewed the Mickey head in dental floss and pulled tight
3. Soaked in soda ash for 30 minutes
4. Twisted into pie and rubberbanded
5. Use Tulip brand dyes to dye the shirts
6. Let sit for 24 hours
7. Rinsed and washed

Any suggestions???

Good job! Cute kids ♥

I don't know why you got some much white, maybe be adding more dye into the folds?

Your shirts still look great! If you did the spiral you may have left white between the colors. I just did mine and we literally slopped the colors on right up against one another and I thought they'd be a mess but they turned out pretty nice! I've seen spray tie dye paint where you actually just scrunch the fabric and spray but honestly your shirts looks just fine the way they are!

Agreed, I think you just need to use a bit more dye. I ran into this problem the first time my friend and I tiedyed. We had the Jacquard kit and we were a bit....reserved...with the dye because we were afraid of running out. We ended up having dye left over and when we washed them we wished we would have gone back and added more because we had quite a bit of white left. Since then we learned to be more generous with the dye and had much better results as far as having less white. You want to saturate your shirts, but not so they're dripping all over.

Bah..photobucket is down for maitenence, I'll post some pics tomorrow and show you the difference between my beginner ones and the newer ones...and just because I haven't posted any of mine.

hi..i have another question...
i plan on only using 2 colors (orange and black)....do you still dye by the slice? ie, 1 orange slice, 1 black, etc, or do you dye half one color and the other half the other color? does it matter?
i sewed up my mickey heads and twisted up the shirt.....i hope to either dye it today or tomorrow...(we leave in 10 days!)

thanks!

I love these shirts, my mom and I are going to attempt to make some this weekend, where can I find a good outline of the mickey head that you guys are using?
Thanks

It depends on how you want it to look, if you want to do half and half it would look half of your shirt on color and half on the other color, if you do slices then you'll get at least 3 lines of each color.

I made the tie dye halloween style but I silk screen printed the jack o lantern inside the mickey ears...

Hope it looks good too...

What an awesome craft! I cannot wait to make these! Thanks for sharing the directions, tips and all the wonderful pics! :lovestruc

I think with the only 2 colors thing, you'd have to do a 4 slice pie, assuming you don't want too much white. I think the more slices you do, the more "arms" your spirial will have and the thinner they'll be.

these are from the first ever batch, you can see there's lots of white left.

these guys are from the 2nd batch, not from a kit as you can tell by the colors and you'll see there's a lot less white because we learned not to be as frugal with the dye
