**Tie Dye Mickey ears shirts directions**NEW NEW PICS LAST PAGE**

Your shirts are wonderful. Did you have "previous" tie dye experience???? Was it hard or easy. I'm going to try a couple of shirts .. I've already told my grandniece and grandnephew that they will be my "guinea pigs".

I have done a few shirts in the past, nothing major. They took us a long time. I followed all of the directions from this link. I also dyed the shirts while they were still damp. I think the dye goes further that way. I also left them to sit for three or four days before rinsing. I tell you, the bleach pen is definitely the trick to making a so so looking shirt look fabulous!

The bleach pen -- what a great tip. Do you use the bleach pen around the Mickey or do you use it elsewhere? Can you elaborate on this a little bit? Thanks for any info.

I made the following for our trip tomorrow!

We are going to Universal first, but Im still a mickey freak. :rotfl:

I used the Dental floss to baste and it worked really well.

I was going for the 'spiral effect' with all of them but I dont think I 'twisted' the fabric tight enough on all of them. I used the jACQUARD kit from Michaels

Overall Im pretty happy.. not bad for a first try.
Now how do I get the GREEN dye off my fingers...hmm:rotfl:

Love the shirts!!! Great job!!! :thumbsup2

These shirts are great! did you use a bleach pen? Im thinking my shirts might look better if I do that but im running out of time! leave tomorrow!

Oh the other thing I realized is that I UNSTITCHED the floss after I dyed...meaning the last step was removing that ...Im wondering if that is what caused a little more bleeding than I would have liked.

So, here is the result of our first attempt. I've decided that I was so freaked out about the Mickey head I left too much white on the front of the shirt. And I didn't get the spiral effect I was looking for. I also dropped a spot of black outside the mickey head when dying. Overall, I'm okay with it as a first attempt. These also weren't "good" shirts. They were just very thin, cheap ones. I was wanting to just practice for the Mickey head, so I'm pretty pleased with that aspect of the shirt.

I just put down the "Mickey" template I used to do the sketch on the shirt and slowly drew around it with the bleach pen. Don't use too much as it runs. It won't appear white at first, it takes a while, maybe 1/2 hour to turn to white. I noticed that the regular t-shirts need less bleach pen (it absorbs faster) than the v-neck ones I bought at Walmart (the organic ladies v-necks).

Good luck!

Do you recall which color purple you used?
I'm getting ready to place an order with Dharma, but there are so many purple/violets to choose from!

Love the shirts. Where is everyone finding the stencil for the Mickey head? They look too good to be drawn by hand.

I just have to inform you, and maybe you've been told, but I spotted a tie-dye Mickey shirt in the movie "Eat Pray Love." I saw the movie this afternoon, and there is a scene while she is in Bali and sees a woman that heals her leg. The woman is wearing a tie-dye Mickey shirt.:cool1:

Pixie, do you get your shirts from dharma as well? I just realized they sold tons of different styles.

Hi! No, I don't get them from them. I bought a plus size once because I couldn't find it elsewhere back then. Their prices are kind of high and also their shipping, maybe because all the way across on the east coast :confused3

I just bought our shirts from there. I can't seem to find 100% cotton anywhere else. Where do you buy your shirts?

OMG! Roxy we are going to have to check this out...
That is neat....

Oh I just tried my first one and I think I just made a complete mess of it! I am usually pretty crafty, but I'm just not used to this at all!
I was trying to do one using red and black and the black just faded into EVERYTHING. Like there is barely any red at all.
I am afraid all I did was dye a white shirt black with a couple of red streaks in it. :( I don't think the Mickey Head is going to stand out at all, it's allll black. Should I do the Mickey head in red?

Any tips?
