Is there a list somewhere that has the costs of the excursions? I'm trying to see if we can do this cruise next year, and a lot depends on the costs of the excursions...

Thanks!

The excursions are very expensive but you can do your own and have a fantastic time- we only did two Disney tours on our 11 day Med cruise and they were the 'Value' tours, ie the cheapest ones and were still pricey. We did the Sorrento and Pompeii tour ($ 95 adults x2 $75 kids x2) and also the Nice and Monaco( a bit cheaper I think, maybe $75 dollars for adults and I think it was only about $25 for kids) but they were considerably cheaper than most of the other excursions. We did our own DIY excursions in the other ports and saved a LOT of money and weren't nearly as exhausted on those days as we were on the days we did the Disney tours -those were very good but sitting on buses and following a guide around in the heat is very tiring. Doing it at your own pace is easier. There's a very good Trip report which will give you loads of ideas and tips - forget the name of the poster but she's a travel agent and took fantastic photos. Will look for the report for you.

We are doing the 9-8 Med and booked the DCL Sorrento and Pompeii "value tour". How did you like it? I think you go to Sorrento in the morning and Pompeii in the afternnon. Would you do it again? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Yes, GW45 was right. It is less expensive to do all the excursions through private tour or DIY. The lady who is a travel agent has the best report. Nice with pictures. The Rome in Limo by Claudio was one of the best private tour companies which we used. Unfortunately, we did not use them in our Napoli (aka Naples stop). We used Tour of Italy with Giancarlo. We took a tour of Herculeum (aka Ercolano) just like Pompeii. We arrived before any of the tour buses stopped there. There an icecream/gelato/cafe shop in the parking area. We also got a private tour guide at the site for $50 euros for 11 of us. Then, we went to Sorrento, a local restaurant with a panoramic view, and Positano. The food was coffee was excellent. Unfortunately, our private tour guide, Giancarlo either became very car sick or had ate something bad at the restaurant, because he was white as a ghost.

We paid $1000 for 11 of us for an AC Mercedes Van. It was a comfortable ride. We even received a Limoncello gift from the owner of the tour company.

Sorrento is so nice and wonderful shopping.

Pompeii, I have heard from many was big and lots of time to go over it in one DCL excursion.

Unfortunately, DCL excursions were over our budget.

If I would do it again, I would use the Rome In Limo Tour Company which another fellow discruiser/medcruiser used in Naples. We used the Rome in Limo Tour Company in Rome and was absolutely blown away by the knowledge, friendliness, and cost. We paid $200 for 5 for a private tour guide for the Vatican and Colosseum. We took the train first thing in the morning from Civitavecchia to S. Peitro for $54 Euros (+/-). Then, we took a taxi from the Vatican to the Colosseum for $17 Euros. The Tickets to the Vatican can be purchased online ahead of time. The Colosseum tickets can be purchased there.

It was the best deal.

We just got off the 8/7 Med cruise, and did every port except Tunis on our own. (And if I had to do it again, I'd even do Tunis on my own. However, I've been to Egypt multiple times, and lived in Europe for awhile, so I'm more comfortable in that environment than many other cruisers may be.) We saved a TON of money over the ship's excursions. I'll post a quickie "excursion report" in a minute...I was writing it up when you posted!
