3rd Annual We are "NEVER" going to Disney in the summer again"

No, I don't think Ben has seen the Dinosaur tv show. Did they start reshowing episodes a few years ago on one of the cable channels? I think I started to watch it, maybe with Nate, but he wasn't into it. Dinosaurs were not really his thing.

Haven't seen it on TV, funny if I hadn't just seen the box set at Best Buy, I never even would have thought of it.

Thanks for the tip on Tangerine Cafe's to go Dee! :thumbsup2 May have to try that... :goodvibes

Enjoying your report!!!

Now I am going to describe one of my all-time favorite Disney days ...

Part 1) Animal Kingdom

Monday was the second full day of our 2009 trip. We started our day at 7 am with breakfast in the Concierge Lounge. Actually, my day started at 5, out on the balcony, with a cup of coffee and a book. I can’t remember now what I was reading, I’ll have to see if I wrote it down. It may have been Angels and Demons by Dan Brown. One thing I love about vacations is having a little down time to read. My books of choice are popular fiction: Stephen King, John Grisham, Dan Brown, Carl Hiaasen (Hoot, Flush), The Harry Potter series and now the Percy Jackson series.

We arrived at the bus stop around 7:30. Destination: Animal Kingdom, EMH.

We arrived at AK around 8 AM. We rented a locker and stashed the stuff we would need later that day, then proceeded to Kilimanjaro Safari.

Here's a couple of cuties we saw. We stopped for quite awhile at the cheetah because these were extrodinary views we had of a normally shy cat.

After chasing the poachers away from the elephant and her baby, we headed over to Dinosaur. You may recall, there is a dino-lover in our group.

Where IS everyone???

After the ride Mark and Ben stayed and played in the Boneyard for a bit. No pictures, I wasn’t there.

Nate and I headed to Asia to Fast Pass Kali River Rapids, then we walked the Maharajah Jungle Trek.

The four of us met back up at Kali, and rode standby.

Here's one of my Top Ten hints: Ziploc Big Bag for Kali.
We change into flip flops before the ride and stash our shoes, back pack and anything else we have in the bag. Sure, there is a covered storage area in the center of the ride, but we don't trust this to keep our stuff dry.

Fortunately, I have a waterproof camera, so that stays out during the ride.

We decided to head to lunch before riding Kali again, so we made our way to Africa to eat at Tamu Tamu.

Nobody seems to discuss this place. I don’t think many people know it is there! Mark thinks there is just too much going on at that corner and that the counter window is not very noticeable. There is a lovely patio area in the back with tables, a few of them in shade. There is a cast entrance in the back, so you might see costumed African drummers on their way to or from a set while you are dining. The menu has burgers, a turkey and Swiss Panini or tuna on lavash/pita. We chose 3 burgers and 1 turkey sandwich.

You can get a milkshake instead of dessert, but what you can’t do is order fewer items than you are entitled to on your dining plan! I think a couple of us decided to skip dessert, and we tried to explain that we understood we COULD get dessert but we didn’t want it, but the person working the register wasn’t accepting that for an answer. So that is how we learned you can get a milkshake instead of dessert. The CM insisted.

After lunch, we rode Kali River Rapids again, the four of us walked the Maharajah Jungle Trek and we rode Dinosaur again. We didn’t catch any shows that day. We did end up seeing Lion King and Finding Nemo when we returned to AK on Friday. The boys did not want to ride Expedition Everest on this trip. They rode it once in 2008 and didn’t really like it.

It was starting to get really hot and really crowded at AK, so it was time to head to our next destination: Blizzard Beach! We collected our stuff from the locker before heading to the bus stops. The great thing is that most of the resort buses from AK stop at BB first, so you can pretty much board the first bus you see at the stops (just double-check with the driver that he is going to BB). Quick 5 minute bus ride!

To Be Continued...

Loved seeing your pic's of KRR, we didn't get a chance to ride this on our trip 2 weeks ago - it was having "technical" difficulties - but I have to say, I didn't miss being drenched for our TH dinner :)

Your son has the look I usually have on that ride - soaked :lmao: Nobody in my family wants to sit by me - I always seem to be in the hot (I mean wet) seat.

I wish I had know your tip about all the resort buses going to BB after AK. Our last day we went to AK & then wanted to play the mini-golf over by BB. We rode to ASsports & then caught a bus there to BB - it didn't take too long but still :confused3

Hi TwiddleDeeTwiddleDum- Thanks for reading!

I love that the buses go right to BB, makes it a very convenient way to get there. I'm not sure if the route is seasonal, we have always done this in July, just check with the bus driver.

Wish there was a better way to get to TL! It's on the DTD bus route, which we don't like. Last year, we wanted to go to TL after AK, so we took a bus to CBR (bus driver got lost and ended up back at AK, seriously!), then we waited awhile for the DTD bus, then I think the bus makes the two stops at DTD before TL. Anyone know of a better way? We took a cab this year!

It is nice to have BB to look forward to after AK since that park seems to be super hot! I suppose we could also change into our swim stuff before Kali, but we don't want to be carrying it around all day. My DH bought some quick-dry t-shirts and shorts from either Lands End or LL Bean and he wore those on our AK day this year.

Thanks for the tip about the huge Zip lock bag! You guys got really soaked :scared1: That lunch looks yummy - I didn't even know this place existed (unless it wasn't there in 2008). Milkshakes instead of desserts? Sounds good to me :thumbsup2

Hi, Just found your TR...your title caught my attention....only on page 2, but wanted to sub! Going back to catch-up :thumbsup2

We just came back from Disney...we went August 3rd - 8th.
I live on the North Shore near Beverly...Sorry your husband now has to commute to Cambridge....not an easy commute....:sad2:

Go Patriots!! :cheer2:

I loved the picture of you soaking wet! I can't wait to go to AK in september, we didn't make it there the last time we went. Looking forward to hearing more. Your family has alot of energy to tackle 4 parks in one day!:)

Great pictures of Kali! I don't know why we've never done it, but now I definitely want to!!

How packed was it at BB when you showed up later in the day out of curiosity? I know I'd heard that if you didn't show up for opening, the lines/crowds were so bad that it was impossible to do anything as the day went on?? Just wondering what time you arrived and how busy you found it to be??? :goodvibes

I am amazed about how unknown this place is. I responded to a thread about people looking for alternatives when the Flame Tree is closed, and it was all Yak and Yeti and Pizzafari. This is a nice alternative. I'm going back to edit my post to put in a photo of the restaurant- I didn't take this one, it is from the DIS restaurant board. Hope it is ok to post, if I credit.

Welcome 407-W-DISNEY!!! Always glad to have another local along for the ride!

Good game last night!!! We have been Pats fans forever. When we lived in NH and the home games were blacked out because the stadium didn't fill, we could get the broadcasts from Maine, so we were able to watch all of the games. Empty stadiums are not the problem anymore!

I am headed to visit friends near Rockport/Gloucester today. Great day for the beach!

@ momof3cuteboys and dtr-angel (Sorry, I haven't figured out double-quoting yet)

Kali River Rapids is a BLAST!!! But you have to be prepared to get wet. If you are wearing sneakers and socks, you need to change them because you don't want to walk around all day waiting for them to dry. And no white t-shirt, ladies!!!

The last two summers, we have arrived at BB around 2 or 2:30 twice, in July. We were always able to find seats fairly close to the entrance/wave pool. This year, in fact, there were two loungers under cover which we needed because we were there during a thunder/rain storm shutdown. Chairs also available at TL when we arrived around 3 last year and this year.

Last year, BB, wait for Family Ride was about 15 minutes, we did it twice. This year, wait times impacted by storm, so the park re-opened, it wasn't bad. Wave pool and lazy river were both crowded. We don't do the body slides, so don't know how the wait times were.

TL, after 3 PM: wait time for shark reef about 20 minute. Wait time for CrushNGusher, about 15 minutes. Wave pool crowded.

Here comes the 2009 report, with pictures!!!

Park 2) Blizzard Beach

Our family had never been to Blizzard Beach and it had probably been 15 or more years since Mark and I had been to Typhoon Lagoon. We arrived sometime around 2 PM.

We bobbed in the wave pool- pretty tame.

The boys loved the lazy river.

The line at the chair lifts was not too long, so we got on those to take us to the family ride:

Team Boat Springs rocks!!! We did this twice. About a 15 minute wait.

Love the view from the boarding area of Teamboat Springs!

Nate and Ben played around in Ski Patrol Area- walking across icebergs, zip-line.

None of us really like body slides, so we didn’t try any of the more thrilling single slides. Summit Plummit? No, thanks!

It was around 4:30, so we needed to change and get ready for dinner.

BOMA!!!

We have never gone to BB - only Typhoon Lagoon (once). It looks so fun - loved the pics of the boys at the Ski Patrol.

I can't wait to hear all about Boma - we have ressies there December 1st on our Animal Kingdom day. I hope my guys like it - my youngest 2 are going to WDW for their first visit and I tried to pick ADR's at places where I think will interest them. Plus it's buffet and what boy doesn't like a buffet, right? ;) (plus my DS27 is a vegetarian so I think Boma will have a great selection.)

Have a great time with your friends today - yes, its a great day for the beach...a few of us are sneaking away at lunch today for ice cream...hee, hee

I noticed the Tangerine Cafe for the first time on this past trip...we didn't get to eat there, but it's now on my list of places to try!

Oh yes, I remember the days of the empty stadium and blackouts...my husband used to work there back in 92 - 93 during college...they only sold out one game.....thank goodness that's in the past!!

great game! :cheer2:

Signing up. :thumbsup2

Really enjoying what I have read so far. You guys seem to use your time very smartly. Good job.;)

Thanks for the pictures of the resort. The Beach Club is one of our "dream resorts" so maybe one day.

Looking forward o reading more.

We actually prefer Typhoon Lagoon. Better wave pool than BB, CrushNGusher is really cool and we love to snorkle, so Shark Reef is fun for us. But the family ride at BB is totally better than the one at TL. Can't compare the thrill slides since we don't do those.

LOVE Boma. There. That's my review. Pictures coming right up, including the kid's food station.

What a gorgeous day! Did you get out for your ice cream treat???

Tangerine (EPCOT, Morocco) or Tamu(AK)? We love them both, I think each one is underrated. I answered a question on the restaurant board for kldmom2000 about takeout from Tangierine. With pictures, of course!

It has sure been an exciting few years in the Boston sports world!
