**Tie Dye Mickey ears shirts directions**NEW NEW PICS LAST PAGE**

We are going to attempt it today. I can't wait to see how they come out. We are going down to WDW soon and are a party of eight, varied ages. I need them to be cool colors for a 17 year old boy and 13 year old girl. Wish me luck!

Good Luck!

Girls are easy ♥ Boys and specially teens are hard, but you can go with blues, navy, black, if he likes a football or baseball team, you can go with those colors :thumbsup2 Have fun!

Again sorry if you've answered this before..

Have you just been experimenting with the colors or do you have particular ones you like for blue, or purple or red? Have you had luck mixing them, or if you want orange, do you just get orange? The last time I dyed and used the Jacquard Procion dyes, I got Lilac because it looked like a nice true purple on the swatch they had at the store, but after all was said and done it really was lilac. Still looked good, but not what I expected from the swatch. The swatch wasn't a fabric swatch, but like a printed card. Do you find the colors are pretty true to what they say? Is Royal Blue really Royal Blue, or is it more of a Denim Blue? I know how you mix the dye has an effect on it, and I thought that's what had happened with this lilac because it was so light. But when I went back to the swatch, the color on there had a lot more of a grape tone to it, a little more red, while what I ended up with had a more blue undertone.

Sorry for the crazy detailed question and sorry for making everyone else scroll through this!

No, if I want orange or purple I just buy those colors, the only time they mix is if I want them mix on the shirt, like the turquoise and red will make purple if you overlap them, but I normally just buy the colors. I do mix them sometimes to make them stronger, it just depends, I do like to experiment, sometimes I get great results sometimes not :confused3

That is pretty normal, the colors would not always going to look like the swatches all depends on the lots, just like the yarn, make senses? :confused3 If you buy lilac is going to be lilac regardless of the swatch, if you want purple make sure you get purple, grape, etc, or you can mix the lilac with another blue to make it purple .

As for the royal blue, I had never use royal blue, im going to try, next time I place and order

I definitely know what you mean by yarn and dye lots. I guess I'm so used to other peoples color descriptions I was thrown when the name of a color actually lived up to its name. I ran into this with the my friend's wedding, with teal vs turquoise. I consider teal to have a bit more green in it, and turquoise to be more blue. She ordered 2 chair sashes labeled "teal", that looked teal on the website (both on her computer and mine, so it wasn't just our color settings), and when we got them, one was actually teal and one was really turquoise. I used to stock the arcylic paints in a craft store, and always wanted to rename them..thinking "That's not really grape, really more of an aubergine, and this isn't denim blue, its more robin's egg" After seeing that swatch looking so much more true purple, having it really turn out lilac was a shocker!

I know. It does happends with other colors, like the greens, the look really lime greens on the swatchs and when you use them the green is more like grass green, darker.

Pics of the day.....

How did you tie the first pic from your last post? I've been trying to figure out how to get the black to spider through like that.

There are different ways to tie the spider, this one you fold in half first then twist then just alternate the colors.

Spent all day yesterday trying to make these tshirts!!! Hope they turn out good- scared too death to take all the rubber bands off and look at them!!! yikes!

So, the kids have to finish up their math (we homeschool). Do a chemistry experiment and then we're going to dye our first batch of shirts. Wow, the excitment is killing me! I so hope they come out at least decent!! :rotfl:

I know you said you use silk thread to baste the mickey head. Where do you purchase silk thread and is it thicker than normal thread?

TIA!:flower3:

Nevermind, got it! :)

Where did you find the thread? I looked in Target and Walmart and neither carried it. I just went with plain waxed dental floss. That too was very hard to find. Only Walmart had that.

I finished my shirts and wanted to post the pix, but have no clue how to do this. I hit the FAQ tab and cannot figure out to do this. :confused3

Your shirts are wonderful. Did you have "previous" tie dye experience???? Was it hard or easy. I'm going to try a couple of shirts .. I've already told my grandniece and grandnephew that they will be my "guinea pigs".

Those shirts look great!
I just ordered my dye and shirts from dharma tonight. Hope they come soon so we can do this project, sounds fun! I hope they turn out well!
