I haven't stayed at the EPCOT area resorts that you mentioned, but I did stay at the Contemporary with my husband and son. Our son was 2 1/2 at the time and he had a blast. It was too cold to use the pools on that trip, so we didn't even take a peek. The room was beautiful and worked very well for our family. Having stayed at Contemporary, Polynesian and Grand Floridian so far, I can say that the rooms at the Contemporary are our favorite by a mile (we prefer the grounds at Polynesian - and the close proximity of dole whips!) Our son slept on the daybed (with one of the bed rails) and we had a king bed for ourselves. The toilet area is separate from the rest of the bathroom. Tub was perfect for his baths. He loved looking out the window to see "Arella's Castle." Even if you didn't have an MK view room, though, you can see the fireworks and the ML from the observation area. He enjoyed the arcade and just playing on the escalators, and of course seeing the monorail. It was exciting for him each time. He kept announcing that there was a train while we would eat at the food court area. We did sometimes have to wait for a table by the little take out place, but we just popped up to our room and ate there if it was too crowded. I'm sure it isn't too much of a trek to the garden wing, either. We had a wonderful time at Chef Mickey's for breakfast one morning. Being able to walk to and from MK was fantastic. We ended almost every evening there, no matter which park we had gone to during the day. Getting to EPCOT on the monorail was easy, too, though you do have to switch at the TTC. I don't remember having especially bad waits for buses to DHS and AK (though we did have a bit of a wait coming back from AK). Short answer - he loved the Contemporary. Definitely not saying the others wouldn't be good choices, too, but I just don't have any personal experience to share. We have walked around the boardwalk area and taken the boat from DHS to EPCOT, though, and those hotels look lovely, especially all lit up at night! If you think the theming at the moderates would be appealing to your son, maybe consider some of those, too? Those pirate rooms at CBR seem pretty popular, and the pool looks great there. Although I definitely understand the appeal of being able to walk to a park...
