DME Late Arrival Luggage Delivery

Our flight will be arriving at 10:00pm on a Wednesday night. After researching the boards here, I found that DME will still transport as usual but we would have to retreive our own baggage and load it on the bus. When booking DME with our reservation the CM mentioned that our luggage can still be "magically" delivered to our room but it probably wouldn't be until the following morning.

Has anyone ever done this? Approximately what time was the luggage delivered in the a.m.? We have a party of twelve all on the same flight so with the amount of luggage we'll be hauling around as a group it may be worth it for us to just pack a small carry-on with some jammies and wait until morning for the rest. However, I don't want to wake up and be waiting hours for fresh clothes and my shower supplies losing out on valuable park time. Any advice?

Official DME policy--guests arriving after 10p are required to get their own luggage. That means you luggage won't get pulled on the tarmac. Your luggage will probably wind up on the carousel. Airline employees will pull the luggage and take it to the unclaimed luggage office. It's possible DME won't get the luggage until the next morning. That suggests you might not get your luggage until late the next morning.

Also possible you get lucky and your luggage makes it on the last luggage truck of the night.

Plan on your luggage being delivered while you're at the parks. Your carryon luggage should include your shower stuff and park clothing for your first day.

We've arrived on a late flight before and had to retrieve our own luggage and take it on the bus with us. It wasn't that big of a deal for us.

Our carryon always has jammies, shower supplies for 1 night and the next morning clothing.

When DME used to pick up after 10pm we had Luggage Services hold our luggage till the next morning and it was always delivered sometime while we were in the parks the next day.

Although we haven't done it yet since the new rules, personally, I will still do what we always did. Tag the bags, have a carryon with 24 hours of stuff. The only difference is the bags will spend the night at the airport instead of in the luggage room at my resort.

You will get to your resort quicker and get to bed quicker because you don't have to deal with ALL of your luggage.

Get out to the parks the next day, then for your afternoon break come back and the rest of your luggage should be there and you can unpack then.

When you go to the carousel after 10 to fetch your bags, and some don't appear, you should file a baggage claim before leaving the area.

Also be aware that if you arrive after 10 and don't go to the carousel to fetch your bags and one got mishandled by the airline, not arriving in Orlando, it might not be possible to get compensated for any loss.

Definitely get your own luggage! We arrived late in Orlando on our last trip due to a delay. (after midnight) I can't even begin to describe all the unattended bags there were on that belt with the yellow DME tags. They just went around and around while we waited with no one in sight that worked for Disney. One fell on the floor and one was starting to come open. Not to mention, it would have been so easy to take one! Judging by the flight time on the one that fell (I put it back on the belt), some of them had been there for at least two hours.

Thanks so much to all! It's certainly worth it to just head to baggage claim to get our own.

One more question: Since we won't be using the luggage service offered with DME, do we not attach the luggage tags that get delivered? I'm guessing we don't. I still have the cute plastic ones they sent us on our last trip in 06.

Thanks for the information. DME tells passengers arriving after 10p to get their bags from the baggage carousel. Airlines require passengers to file a preliminary claim prior to leaving the airport (generally within 4 hours of landing) if their luggage is missing. Passengers who rely on DME getting their bags from the unclaimed luggage office will have an issue if they need to make a claim. They didn't follow DME or airline procedures.

It's a shame Disney isn't willing to compromise. Grab the bags but deliver them the next day. I've read the majority of passengers arriving late either got their own bags or complained when Disney didn't deliver their bags before they went to sleep.

You're welcome! I have to admit, I was quite taken aback by it. I knew they wouldn't deliver late and we knew we had to get our suitcases, but I was surprised by the number of people who did not seem aware of this. I was also surprised that Disney didn't come collect these suitcases. Of course, it's entirely possible that they did after we left, but either way some of them had been there for a while.

It's also possible that the passengers belonging to some of those bags arrived on earlier flights or haven't arrived yet!!. Airlines are not required to put bags on the same flights as the passenger.

There are extra bags rolling around on EVERY flight.

Either the bag doesn't make a connection and is sent on a later flight, or the passenger can't make a connection, but the bag CAN make the connection, so the bag arrives at the destination on time, but the passenger doesn't. Or a passenger has a long layover by choice, and the bag is put on an earlier flight.

Or a passenger checks in early for a flight and their bag makes it on a aircraft that leaves earlier than they do.

There are many times that I've arrived at a destination waiting on my bags, nothing on the carousel, only to find out they arrived on an earlier flight and are sitting in the baggage office. (When I am traveling for work, I often change planes in Atlanta and allow myself a long layover, and my bags usually make a quicker layover, or an even longer layover than mine. My bags are "rarely" on the same plane I am on for the 2nd leg of my trip.)

There is no CM there after 10 to grab the bags. Remember, there are many behind the scenes carousel locations up and down the A and B sides that have to be serviced.

Also at that late hour, just one or two CM's can't do it. The bags would have to be loaded, a few at a time, onto Smarte Cartes and wheeled all the way to one corner where all the DME stuff might be stored, and then the CM('s) would have to come all the way back for more.

Absolutely! We had it happen to us before where our luggage arrived in Boston considerably ahead of us. We arrived at the room where we they were keeping the bags just in time to see another passenger walking away with our suticase!:scared1:Luckily they didn't put up a fuss when we asked for it back.
