Best transportation options from Sanford???

A couple of years ago I checked into flying into Sanford Airport, but it wasn't going to be that much savings to fly by the time we had to get some type of transportation to Disney. Our small local airport (<5 min from our house) is flying into Sanford now. So, that would save us the $75 of parking our car at Detroit for the week.

What has anybody found as the best option out of Sanford for transportation?

There will be 3 adults and 4 kids.

Thanks for your help! We are toying with the idea of a bounce back trip in Jan 2011.

Anything you choose is going to cost way more than $75.

A taxi will be about $125 each way, so about $250 round trip. Car service will be about the same, possibly more since you have 7 people.

I would just fly into MCO unless flying into Sanford will save you significantly more than that.

It may save us about $500 and 4 hours of driving to get to Detroit and Back.
It might be worth it, but I love DME....it's so much the Disney experience for us. The extra person with us has never been to Disney so I want everything to go smoothly.

Thanks for your reply.

I would look at how much the other airline is charging for extras. A lot of smaller airlines offer much better fares, but then nickel and dime you when it comes to the extras. I know Spirit Airlines charges not only for checked luggage, but also for carry ons. Depending on your needs, the cheap can come out expensive.

Best transportation option from Sanford or Tampa is renting a car.

Worst transportation option from Sanford (from a cursory look at a few trip reports) is Sanford Transportation, a car service.

If the airport you're talking about is Grand Rapids and the airline is Allegiant, the flight is actually into Orlando International now, not Sanford. It used to be Sanford, but they changed it earlier this year. Be careful with Allegiant. We flew them a few times from Lansing. In January, their schedule is rather limited and, with a weather delay, you could get stuck in Michigan or Florida for a couple of days waiting for their next scheduled flight.
