I've never had to pay for a checked bag. Flying Continental next trip with $25 fee for checked bags (since Stupid Southwest doesn't offer direct flights anymore from Cleveland ) So I'm wondering how the resort check in works? Can I pay the checked bag fee  at the resort or ahead of time through Continental? How does all that work? TIA!

We had to use the phone at the RAC to call the airline and pay our luggage fees. We did it as they were checking all of our information in! It was very simple! Hope that helps!

I would like to know this too so hopefully someone in the know will post.

But I'll venture a guess that if you have a credit card # on file with your resort they could make those arrangements for you. Prior to paying for the checked bag, our last trip our flight home was 8pm. So we were thinking that was going to screw up our last morning of park touring since we'd need to go to the resort airline checkout that next morning to arrange our ME trip for that evening. But the night before our flight home, they had our boarding passes etc. prearranged & waiting in an envelope slipped under our room door when we got back from Illuminations. All we had to do was drop off our luggage the next day. It was very convenient & allowed us to go to the parks the last morning of our trip. But again, we weren't paying for a checked bag.

The last time I flew home, with checked bag fees, I just called the BAGS people the day before and paid with my credit card. The DME note left in the room, the day before departure, gives you your DME pickup time as well as the phone number for BAGS so you can pay those baggage fees.
Write down the conf. number they give you so you can show it to the RAC people the next day.

If you don't use ME the number will still be in the room. We always have a rental car since we go to Universal first and the number is always in the villa for BAGS. When you call them the day before just have your cc ready along with your flight info or confirmation number, and have paper/pen ready since they will give you a confirmation number that you will have to give in at the RAC counter so they can verify you have paid and they will then print the boarding passes.

Thanks so much! We use a town car service instead of ME so I was wondering how that would work. Sounds easy.

If I check-in online through United, I pay a reduced (20%) fee for checked bags; what fee will BAGS charge?

here's some food for thought...

The last night of our trip, we called and paid the bag fee. the next morning we went to get our boarding passes, and they wouldnt give them to us. so, we had bell services hold our bags while we spent the afternoon in the parks. i called a family member back home (while on tom sawyer island) and had them check me in online. i provided my brother with my credit card info and paid the baggage fees online.

then, i had to call BAGS and get a refund. bags asked why i needed the refund, so i told them what had happened. they put me on hold to find out what went wrong. it turns out, my flight number was entered wrong, which is why my boarding passes werent ready for me. they fixed the issue, but it was already too late to arragne my luggage to go to the airport ahead of me. i had already paid delta the baggage fees when my family member checked me in online...sooo after an afternoon at the park, we went back to the hotel, reclaimed our luggage from bell services - brought them on ME and checked them at the airport.

it wasnt a terrible experience, but just make sure your flight info matches up!

This is what we did earlier this year. It was very easy.

OK, so if I want to get my baggage discount, I check-in online (no discount through BAGS?). If I check-in online, I have to take my bags on the bus and drop them off at the airline counter at the airport rather than at the resort RAC?

correct, no discount through bags - i believe they charge more for their service than the airlines do. the only thing you get from them is they take your luggage from your resort for you and hand you boarding pass.

and correct on taking your bags on the bus and dropping them off at the airline counter. - you just have to tip anyone and everyone at disney that touches your bag.

When we were there in April 2010, I tried called BAGS the day before to pay for the luggage but everytime I tried I kept getting a message asking mt o leave information and they would get back to me. We were at a waterpark that day and I was not carrying my cellphone with me so I kept trying to call instead of leaving a message. When it got to be 7 pm the night before our 7:30 am departure I got nervous and called the front desk who let me know that I could pay for my bags when I checked in Resort Airline Checkin. So the next morning I paid for my bags with a credit card right at the counter. Very easy. Not sure if they are still doing this but you could go to RAC any morning during your stay and ask to be sure.

Thanks, I'm all straight now and rarin' to go (bring on December)!
