I'm a scratch golfer myself. We have a lot of mosquitoes here in Wisconsin, and occasionally they will bite you while golfing. I then scratch the spot where I was bit.

Oh, that's what they mean by scratch golfer.
If that's the case, then I'm a scratch player as well. If not I'm about a 30+
:rotfl2:

Every Christmas Eve, after the evening milking, my dad would always want to take us kids into town (population: ~900) to look at everyone's Christmas lights. And every year, while we were gone, Santa would come and deliver presents. I can't believe we just missed him for like 27 years in a row! Although, then on Christmas morning we could just get up and head to the barn for chores, rather than having to sit around and open presents.
I always knew that Wisconsinites were a tad gullible. :lmao:

You would get along very well with my 3 year old. :thumbsup2 I'm actually sort of in the same boat (pun intended). I get just as excited as he does when we hear a train rolling by.
There is a really cool Maritime Museum up in Manitowoc, Wi. They have a WWII submarine there, and they allow groups to sleep in it overnight. :crowded:

You should come down to Chicago at the end of August. They have the Tall Ships coming Aug 24 - 29. Evan would love it.

Bummer - I'd love it too. Too bad I have another commitment during that time period. I still need to reschedule my trip up your way...

So okay - we're up to page 234. How many want to guess exactly WHEN we'll be needing DDCV?

My guess is 4-5 days - at least that "should" put us at 250ish. DDCIII was shut down at 271.

Don I'm sure you are, and probably said so a week or so ago while my laptop was dead... but I hope you're up for it again. If not, and you haven't already said so, say so now so we can line up the next vict... I mean, volunteer.

Time sure flies when you're having fun, doesn't it? :)

That would be really cool, but that's the weekend we're doing our 10th anniversary trip to Kentucky. They've come to Kenosha in the past, but we always have something else going on and we never make it.

That's too bad. I'm thinking I might have to break my rule of not going into the city on weekends to take the girls down for this.

10 years. A decade. A 10th of a century. The number of commandments given to Moses and the Israelites. The number representing my birth month...October. The number of fingers on the average person's hands, or toes on their feet. The number of cookies I ate yesterday...oops, I didn't mean to let that one slip out. Wow. How time flies. We were living back in So. Cal 10 years ago.

That's very cool Barry. Congrats. Hopefully Bambi will put up with you several more decades and you can reach your golden anniversary. ;)
I know it's a while - but don't forget to honk when you pass through, or will you be flying for that trip?

just watch phenias and ferb...and realized some more interesting facts about me.

1] i know what dr. Doofenschmertz is up too.
2] i know where perry is.
3] i can make the platapus noise. Kgakgakgakgakgakga.
4] i created an inator-inator...but it disappeared.

s.i.m.p.!!!!!!!!!!

Just got back a few hours ago from Busch Gardens VA. It was AWESOME:goodvibes. The 1st night we meet up with DW's cousin & family around 7, when they got there he said let's do it your way :scared1:(they have SP and go all the time, plus he wanted to see my plan of action:lmao:) O.K. open for 3hrs yet, this is what we did, 7pm saw the sideshow in Ireland, 7:15 Celtic dance show in the Abby (awesome show totally changed from past years), off to France to catch the parade (found the best spot in front of the smokehouse), off to Germany to ride Dark Castle (line was short:woohoo:) off to see the Worlds largest living Coo Coo Clock wait DS sees a Minion from Dispicable Me that he wants :woohoo: gobblet game got one with the 2nd ball, wife not happy:scared1: it was the large one:confused3, back to the clock, it was a really cool show:goodvibes, hit some of the rides in Germany before fireworks, they said the best place to see them was the bridge, but IMO the garden in Italy was a much better view, without the crowd. After the fireworks 15mins left, off to Apollo's chariot (DS had it sit this one out) got off 8mins left, hit 2 rides in the garden in Italy:cool1: Park closed off to England for funnel cakes, by the time we got back to the van there were 50 cars max, left in the parking lot:lmao:
This was all done in 3hrs:scared1:
My DW's cousin said he will be looking into SOG for the week we will be at WDW in Dec, also said he be getting in contact with me to find out how to become a member of The Dis Dads Club:yay:

I didn't get to meet up with Don this trip, but hopefully we will get to meet up next time, DW is thinking about a few days in August, but we will be there for Hallow Scream at the end of Sept.

The building we had our wedding reception in has a huge fiberglass cow on the roof. I'll have to see if I can dig up some pictures.
Pictures!!! I need to see this particular chapel.

As cool as building the tree house is, I'm going to have to nerd out and say building stuff for NASA was cooler.
Yah, I forgot to add rockets to that list of machines that completely fascinate me. Needless to say, the folks in my family are not among those that thought the space program was a waste of time.
Ruth? What kind of name is Ruth for a guitar?
You jumped right on to one of the goofier ones there, didn’t you (what are you a Dis-Dad or something?) Remember, you asked… :rolleyes1I originally named a couple of the girls as a quick method of keeping track of how they were tuned (an “S” name for standard, an “E” name for Emaj-Blues, ect…), but then it just sort of got out of hand and personality started to play into the game. Ruth is actually one of my two bass guitars. Specifically, an early 70s 3/4 scale Fender Musicmaster, which when first acquired, was a total wreck that barely played. A friend and I broke it down and Frankensteined her into something her builders wouldn’t recognize. Problem was, the D-string buzzed terribly (until we got the bow out of the neck). I’m sure you can see where this is going. At first everyone just called it “that dang buzzie bass”, which shortened to just “Buzzi”, which eventually moved to Ruth (because I am old enough to remember her).

I warned you, but you did ask…

You would get along very well with my 3 year old. :thumbsup2 I'm actually sort of in the same boat (pun intended). I get just as excited as he does when we hear a train rolling by.

That would be the USS Cobia (SS-245). She is on my list of ships to see, along with the rest of the Wisconsin Maritime Museum. I just got to get both the time and extra bucks to get up there, but it is part of the plan. Glad to here that they offer overnight stays. When my son was in cub scouts (and I was one of the Pack Leaders) we spent a couple of days on the carrier USS Yorktown in Charleston. That was a great experience for all the kids in the group (but I probably had more fun then they did).

You should come down to Chicago at the end of August. They have the Tall Ships coming Aug 24 - 29. Evan would love it.
That would also be awesome, but again, but I can’t pull that trip off this year.

I have only seen it a few times, but that show is hilarious. My wife keeps telling me to watch it more but I'm always at work. Have to DVR it now. My kids are always laughing like deranged baboons when it is on. :rotfl2:

By the way, my wife is super impressed that you can make the platypus noise. She has been trying for weeks and just can't get it.

fed you have a boat trailer with spinners! what more can you ask for?:thumbsup2

I CANNOT believe you went there....:mad::lmao::lmao::lmao:

Well, my family is getting all jazzed up about our late October Trip...my brother who has never been (and we're taking his two kids too--unfortunately he's separated) has been spamming my inbox for the last two days asking questions....:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

On a side note--they threw a couple of mortars at us last night.....I really love how the "early warning system" goes off 5 minutes after we hear the first boom. No damage, no injuries, just the Mahdi Army being a nuisance:lmao::lmao:

Very cool. What line? Passenger or freight? What kind of Engines?
(I warned y’all, I’m interested in nearly every machine that moves)

And… Thanks for your service as well. I’d like to here a story of three form your days in Guam.

BTW: That's a hansom Grandson (and already possessing a good sense of what is and what isn’t entertaining).

Well, as far as I know, my grandfather was an engineer for Lehigh Valley RR's freight line. We do have some photos of him around here somewhere but I'd have to try to locate them. I don't remember him ever talking about it much and I don't remember ever asking him about it, although I don't know why I didn't. When I would see him, he would be in diesels, usually passing through Phillipsburg, NJ.
As for Guam, I really don't have any stories of interest. I played a lot of softball, spent time at the ham shack, and listened to Morse Code about 15 hours a day! It wasn't exciting or boring, I guess.
Thanks for the kind words about my DGS! We'll be seeing him tonight!

I seriously cannot believe it's that time again to consider starting a new thread! And unless there are any objections, I would be honored to start DDCV :cool1: Since we have some new faces, ummm... avatars... up in here now, this would be a good time to take suggestions for the first page of the thread to get any "fresh" ideas. I already have plans to include the state mapping that Steve has been taking care of (Thanks, Steve!!)

Wow! You got a lot done in 3 hours! In that blistering heat! I still have yet to see the IllumiNights activities (have only seen the fireworks from the parking lot as we were leaving one night). Again... sorry about not meeting up with you Wednesday... was really looking forward to it! Definitely let me know the next time you're going!

Time sure does fly doesn't it? But then when you have such a talktative bunch (myself included, definitely), it really isn't a surprise, now is it?

OK I've read your guys info about yourselves.... some very interesting stuff!!! I guess I'll give it a go...

1) My grandfather was in the Navy during WWII. He just had his 95th birthday. While he was serving he got stuck in Hawaii for 4 months. (tough I know!) After the navy, he became a captain of an oyster boat (the Louis R.) in Long Island sound for Tallmadge Brothers. Norwalk’s Tallmadge Brothers, which started in the 1870s is the largest single oyster company in the United States with about 22,000 acres of oyster grounds. At the Maritime Museum in Norwalk, they have an exhibit about Long Island sound, and there is a picture of my grandfather's boat in it.

2) I was never in the band but both my parents played in the UConn marching band.

3) My brother was a cheerleader at Uconn and has both men's and women's national championship rings.

4) My job isn't that 'important' but I'm a mobile DJ. I DJ about 40-50 weddings a year and DJ a total of 140 jobs for a company and for myself.

5) 8 years ago, I walked out of my condo to goto work and I found out my van was broken into. I lost over $20,000 worth of music, a car radio, and all the change in my truck(?). They tried to pull my ignition but they snapped off 2 screws in there, and they were unsuccessful. They were nice enough to leave most of my equipment! LOL

6) I played basketball & football in High School and was All-state in football. Played for 1 year in college till I tried to get more scholarship money and was denied. So I left SHU (Sacred Heart University) and took a year off. I couldn't see leaving school with over $125,000 in loans. I went to a community college for a few semesters then had enough. Sometimes I wish that I did have a degree.

7) When I was 18, we had a house fire and I had to run past shooting flames to get out of my house. I lost almost all of my belongings.

8) I love boating and have a 23' Sea Ray bowrider. I used to have a slip but now I trailer it. I also love snowboarding in the winter... when I can find the time to go.

9) I've been married for 6 years (this September) and we hope to go back to Hawaii (where we went on our honeymoon) for our 10 year anniversary.

By the way, my wife is super impressed that you can make the platypus noise. She has been trying for weeks and just can't get it.

It's more of a throat noise thing...like gargleing without any liquid...no vocal cords.

Hey guys, there's a dad questioning his man card in the Theme Parks Forum...I have reached out, may need backup!!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

On a side note--they threw a couple of mortars at us last night.....I really love how the "early warning system" goes off 5 minutes after we hear the first boom. No damage, no injuries, just the Mahdi Army being a nuisance:lmao::lmao:

Sounds like a system designed by the same people responsible for the Central Indiana tornado warning system... no warning until after a tornado had already come and gone yesterday.

Stay safe!

That's the number of cookies I ate before lunch yesterday.:rolleyes1
mmmmmmmm...... cookies.......
