Mirage, Caesar's or MGM Grand??

Hi! DBF and I are planning a last minute Vegas trip for the end of August. We can't decide between these three hotels-- actually, to specify, I can't decide! DBF stayed at the MGM Grand a few years ago with family and loved it. As he is a creature of habit and hates change, he really just wants to stay there again. However, I'm just not sure. I'd rather stay somewhere new together and create our own memories. Plus, I don't find the rooms or decor there anything special. I think Caesar's and the Mirage (which reminds me of the Poly!!) are just beautiful. Also, we'll stay 3 or 4 nights. Which do you think is better? I do fear us getting a tad bored if we stay 4.
Which of these three hotels would you choose? To give some info about us-- we're in our mid-twenties with no kids. Neither of us drink or gamble much, although we plan to do a little bit of each while we're there. We like good dinners, and as we're not planning on renting a car, we'd like something that is near other resorts. (Or easily accessible by some sort of transportation)
TIA!!

I LOVE Caesars, I don't think you would be disappointed there! Can't give opinion on the other 2 - never stayed at either but I think Caesars is the best. I would def. recommend staying the 4 days, believe me - you will NOT get bored!! There is soooo much to do in Vegas, even if you don't gamble or drink, there are shows, great places to eat, the hotels in themselves are so cool to see, each has something. There is awesome shopping! I would totally recommend JERSEY BOYS & LOVE (shows) they are by far the best shows I've seen. There are lounges/clubs all over, it's impossible to get BORED IN VEGAS!!

Feel free to ask away, anything you want to know! Go, make your own memories & remember what happens in Vegas, stays in VEGAS!! have fun!:cool1:

Thanks!! I've seen Jersey Boys here in NY, so that's not a super draw for us. If we're going to see a show, it'll be Cher!!
Good to know four nights is a good amount of time-- I see you're going in August, too! When are you going/where are you staying??
Caesar's is gorgeous-- probably my top choice at this point! Now it's just about convincing DBF!

LOL, didn't realize you were from NY too! LI here... I wanted to see Jersey Boys in NY just never got around to it. We are going to Vegas in about 2 weeks, Actually going to Lake Tahoe, Reno & Vegas (we like to jump around) we usually stay @ Caesars (DH get's comped) but were have stayed at practically all of their hotels. Check Caesars Website to see if Cher is playing when you go: http://lasvegas.caesars.com/ - Consider LOVE (The Beatles) awesome show. Why is DBF so hard to convince? What 20-something year old guy doesn't want to go to VEGAS?? haha. When are you going?

We're from Westchester-- half hour north of the city! Ooo, sounds like a fun trip! I've always wanted to see Lake Tahoe.
We're looking to go either August 22-26th or the 29th-September 2nd.
Darn, Cher isn't playing! Neither of us are huge Cher fans, we just thought her concert would be fun in a ridiculous way! We'll definitely look into the Beatles show.
DBF doesn't need convincing to go to Vegas, he just needs convincing to stay at a place that's not MGM Grand haha. He's dead set on it and I'm just not feeling it! Plus, Caesar's has a GREAT rate for that second set of dates. I found a great package on the Virgin America website. May I ask what you guys are flying?

I've stayed at all 3 of these and I would rank them in this order

Caesars
MGM
Mirage

I've only stayed Augustus Tower at Caesars; I've heard the other tower(s) are not as nice.

One of my favorite places to eat in Las Vegas is the Mesa Grill that is at Caesars. It's owned by the iron chef, Bobby Flay. Another favorite is breakfast at Bouchon at the Venetian (I usually stay there but will still travel just to have the made to order beignets). My all time favorite restaurant in the world is Picasso at the Bellagio.

First, I would say 3 night is better than 4. Second, where you stay matters little because unless you plan to spend all day playing poker down stairs you will see other hotels and eat at other places.

The only thing that a specific hotel has that you may need are location and the pool. Ceasars ranks first by that. After that the room decor may matter but that is personal preference.

I've stayed at all 3 of these and I would rank them in this order

Caesars
MGM
Mirage

This would be my ranking also if money was not a consideration.

If it is, I vote for MGM. It is on the other "Four Corners" of the strip that offers more affordable table limits, IMHO (MGM, NYNY, Excalibur, and Trop).

Pool is nice, buffet decent, slots okay, $20 upgrades available ;) .

Well, we've decided to go with Caesar's! Thanks for the advice everyone!! DBF made me promise that we'll get to visit MGM. I've never been to Vegas at all (save an airport stop over on my way back from California), so I'm really excited!
Anyone have any advice for really enjoying Caesar's to its fullest? Any food/shopping/anything not to be missed??

Shopping - there are many shops inside of Caesars; however the Forum Shops mall is attached to this hotel. This is a very high end mall with Louis Vuitton, Tiffany, St. John, Judith Lieber, Tory Burch, etc. But there's also Gap, The Walking Company and an Apple store, so there is some shopping to do other than window shopping.

Restaurants - there are celebrity chef restaurants all over the place - Mesa Grill (Bobby Flay) and the Bradley Ogden restaurant, (inside Caesars) and Spago (Wolfgang Puck) in the Forum Shops. There's also a Planet Hollywood restaurant, Cheesecake Factory, Joe's Stone Crab and Sushi Roku, plus a few more. Plus, the hotel has a food court; however it's run by the hotel so no McDonalds or Starbucks.

Gambling - expect high table limits. I was there 2 weeks ago when I had family in town; and the lowest blackjack table limits were $15/hand on a Saturday afternoon; in the Pussycat Dolls area of the casino.

Definitely look into spa treatments!

Your are walking distance to lots of other properties. The Mirage is just north of Caesars; walk all the way through the Forum Shops, go outside & turn left; and walk about 100 ft and the entrance to the Mirage is right there. You are across the street from Harrahs and Flamingo and many more; and across Flamingo south of Caesars is Bellagio.

However, Caesars is a true resort. If you wanted to, you could spend your entire four day trip there and never leave the property. Have fun planning your trip!

Because we are flying into Reno first & driving up to Tahoe, we are flying United. Usually when we go directly to Vegas we go Jetblue. You should def consider Tahoe in the future it is the most beauitful place in the world! Especially if you like to ski in winter! Too bad about Cher, the shows @ collisum never seem to coordinate for us either, as many shows as I've seen in Vegas never been there! Check out Love & also Blue Man is awesome too! Shopping in Forum shops is great, yeah there are some high end shops that are fun to look in but not to buy, but there are some normal shops too. Abercrombie & Lucky have stores there ( my favs) also if you are into handbags (who isn't!) I usually get myself one there, I think all the designers put the newest stuff there! Check out Neros if you like steak (excellent place) get the soufflé for desert (yummy) feel free to pm me if you want to know ANYTHING about Caesars, been there dozens of times!! I know you said you don't drink, but they have the best slushies right outside the front door!! All diff flavors!! Have fun!!!

Thanks for all the great tips! DBF and I love steak-- is there a good steakhouse in or near Caesar's? That's great to hear how close it is to other places-- I really want to explore the Mirage, Mandalay Bay, the Bellagio, and the Venetian specifically! We love shopping, so I know we'll probably spend a lot of time in the Forum Shops. We're not table gamblers-- the little we do will be at machines! Does Caesar's have good machines or is it best to go elsewhere for that?

I think I will be seriously tempted by everything in the Forum shops! Do you happen to know if there's a Coach store there? Is Nero's at Caesar's?? We're DEFINITELY steak people! Mmm, we don't drink much, but I will more likely than not get tempted by slushies! Love those kinds of drinks!

You picked a great location. We have stayed at NYNY across from MGM and the Mirage (on the other side of the Forum Shops). We prefered the location of the Mirage.
A few meal suggestions:

Mon Ami Gabi Cafe at Paris for lunch or dinner. The food was wonderful and if you get an outside seat you can see the Bellagio water show.
Emerils in the MGM Grand. One of the best dinners I have ever had. We do it ever time. And you will get DBF back to the MGM;)
Spago Cafe in the Forum shops and Postrio Cafe in the Venetain. Both are by Wolfgang Puck.We also do those every trip
The breakfast buffet at the Mirage on the weekend is great. Prime rib, shrimp and bubbly:goodvibes What is not to like

I wouldn't say any of the slots are great. You can though find lower limits on Freemont Street. True Nickel machines. You will see penny slots but you have to play 50 or 100 at a time. But you will find a huge variety of games so I'm sure you will have fun.

There are probably about 200 places and a dozen steakhousesto eat at within a few km so you can find whatever you desire. While certainly you can stay at Ceasar's the whole time, plan on walking around through some of the other hotels and casinos.

I much prefer Caesars & Mirage over MGM (over 20 trips to Vegas & we have stayed at all 3 properties). We like the rooms, resorts & locations much better. The north end of the strip is nicer IMO. Midstrip (Ballys to Casino Royale) is "old school" Vegas w/ more affordable table minimums...but Bellagio, CP, Mirage, TI, Wynn/Encore, Venetian/Palazzo are very very nice--and there are .01 slots & .25 VP EVERYWHERE!!!
BE SURE to get a Forum Tower, Palace Tower or Augustus Tower room in CP--these are the renovated rooms. They are fairly comparable rooms, with Augustus closest to the strip, Palace closest to the pools & Forum closest to the casino. The other towers are old & SO not worth it. We stayed in Palace Tower--nicest room we have stayed in anywhere...a tad nicer than Wynn.
MIX at Mandalay Bay is our fav Vegas meal ever w/ the best views--be sure to get a restaurant.com gift certificate to use. FIX at Bellagio was our next fav meal. Looks like an upscale bar--we were surprised how good the food was! (you have GOT to try the deep fried mac & cheese!)
savelv.com is a great website for Vegas deals
Have fun!

DW and I go at least once a year to Vegas. Sometimes more. We haven't tried any of the steakhouses in or near Caesar's, but one of the best steaks we've had is at Smith & Wollensky's Steakhouse. You promised DBF that he could go to MGM. It's right down the street from MGM within walking distance. Then you can stop at Hard Rock Cafe on your back for one of their slushy drinks. Or cross the bridge over to NYNY. Coyote Ugly has a place that also sells the good slushy drinks. :thumbsup2

Feel free to send me a PM if you have any more questions or want to know any more. I'll share some of our personal experiences with you.

Smith & Wollensky is a chain, and have solid steaks. But there are far better steaks in Vegas. We are from Nebraska & we KNOW steaks...DH's buffalo filet was so tender you could cut it with a butter knife & it melted in his mouth. It is a very contemporary, hip restaurant. DH walked up in shorts & was a bit put off...but hey, they sent us up! There was NO issue w/ his attire. PLUS you can stay at MIX lounge after dinner w/ no cover--very cool & FAB FAB strip views.
We had buffalo filet, catch of the day, appetizer, mac & cheese--without drinks but with the $50 restaurant.com gift certificate (gotten for $4 when 80% off, like they are now) it was only $65 before tip for the 2 of us.

Personally I avoid Caesars and MGM and would suggest heading straight over to Paris. Both MGM and Caesars are HUGE and you can walk forever just to get to the strip. Paris is small by comparison and the theming makes for a far more romantic trip. It is also right across from the fountains of Bellagio, which me and my DW love to hit just after the sun goes down (one of those little Vegas traditions we started just after we got married). The view from the top of the Eiffel tower at night is fab as well.

I did not like the walk at MGM--and the rooms were nothing special. Long walk to strip, and long walk to most everything ON the strip.
I would stay at Paris over MGM, but the pool is nothing special, and the standard rooms are not as nice as Bally's north tower rooms. It is still a bit of a trek from the elevators to the strip.
Caesars is a bit of a trek, but the room was SO much nicer than any other room in Vegas (a tad nicer than Wynn) but is so nice & central to everything else on the strip. Fab pools, close proximity to so many shopping & eating choices.

Glad we decided to go with Caesar's, then! If we try to tip our way into a complimentary upgrade, do should we specifically ask for Palace or Augustus or just ask what's available?? Right now, we're in a classic room. If room amenities are much more important that view to us, what would you recommend asking for?
Mix's menu looks FABULOUS! Did you happen to have their filet? We're NYers and HUGE filet snobs-- it's my favorite cut of meat!

I will definitely take you up on your PM offer!
Is Smith and Wollensky's in a hotel or does it stand alone?

Good to know there's a restaurant.com for Mix-- I'll have to see if it's still available! I definitely wanted to explore Mandalay Bay, so it seems like that might be the perfect match for us!

We're actually already booked at Caesar's, but thanks for the tips about Paris. We'll probably end up visiting there. Our favorite resort at WDW is POR-- we don't mind a huge resort!!

We liked how central Caesar's seemed. Plus, we don't mind walking to get to the strip. I think it'll be a non-issue with us:thumbsup2
