DISmoms Round TWO! Don't Axe, Don't Tell!! 4/30-5/4/10 updates 9/17

Oh My !!! On another thread someone posted pix of Disneyland's World of Color that DGD#1 had just said she wanted to go too!! And now you post on the very rollercoaster at Hershey that DGD #2 is wanting to ride !!!!

No, it goes straight up (you are almost lying on your back on the way up) and over the "hill" at the top and then plummets straight down, inverts a little, followed by five or six corkscrew loops.....crazy!!!!! There is a reason I didn't ride THAT one!

OHH I WOULD LOVE THAT.. not to mention is in a park for CHOCOLATE.. 2 of my favorite Passions LOL

Joan, ever see this pic for the woman after riding Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point? I couldn't help but think of this after your pics - no way would I ride that at all!!!

:scared1:OMG....that was going through my mind as I buckled into the Great Bear....that and "46 year old woman dies of heart attack on amusement park ride!" Fortunately I was in a swimsuit and cover-up, so could have hidden it better than that poor woman!:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Hey everyone!! I'm taking a little break before the next update to bring you some Yankee photos i took on Friday night. Pods, Tyler, Timmy & I attended Friday night's game at Yankee Stadium....and THIS time, I brough my REAL camera. We were sitting in the section next to the Bull Pen in Right field...1st and 2nd rows. It was AMAZING!!!! Here are a few pics- for those that don't know, Nick Swisher is in right field and for the record, may I just say, he is my FAVORITE Yankee EVER!!!!! He LOVES his fans!! He runs out to right field to say hi to everyone....he gave a ball to the little girl sitting right next to us....he showed off his patch honoring Steinbrenner that they are all wearing now (Friday night's game was the first game played after the death of both Bob Shepard, the long-time voice of the Yankees, and George Steinbrenner, so it was packed, there was a tribute to the men, there was no announcing during the game, and between innings they played video of Steinbrenner on the jumbotron). I took 500 photos!!! It was sooooo fun, especially because the game, although it had a slow start, had an EXTREMELY exciting, nail biting finish, and they WON!!! Those Yankees were THRILLED- I think it really meant alot to them to win this game after these two Yankees had died. Anyway....here are some of my 500.....

The tribute outside of the stadium- we were towards the front of the line waiting to go in-

Meanwhile, my boys were hanging on the wall in rt field during the Rays warmup, hoping to catch a ball- can you see them in this pic?

IMG_6786.jpg

IMG_6788.jpg

The kid next to Timmy actually caught the ball. But a few minutes later, when I had gone back over to them (I was standing above the dugout when I took the last pics) Pods actually caught a fly ball during practice, he had to lean over the wall to get it! He lead out a big YEAH!! Wow, was he psyched!!!

IMG_6816.jpg

We watched CC Sabathia warming up. HOLY! He is HUGE!

IMG_6851.jpg

IMG_6863.jpg

IMG_6864.jpg

They did a tribute to the two men, and Jorge Posada was in front of us for it-

IMG_6876.jpg

Then they all came out to warm-up. Here's A Rod

IMG_6944.jpg

IMG_6921.jpg

IMG_6932.jpg

And then...the new Yankee hero...Swisher comes out....

IMG_6959.jpg

IMG_6960.jpg

I mean, seriously!! Look how happy he is!!! He is IT!!!!

IMG_6962.jpg

IMG_6963.jpg

More Swishalicious on the way....

So then Swisher wants to point out the new patch on his uniform that they all have for the rest of the season, honoring GS-

IMG_6971.jpg

IMG_6972.jpg

Of course, when he looks right at me to show off his patch, I forget how to focus...

IMG_6973.jpg

IMG_6974-2.jpg

And then get it back when he looks to my right-

IMG_6975.jpg

OH Yay!!! I had my focus here!! You know why he was looking at me, don't you? I was wearing what from now on I will call my lucky Mickey tank- the same one I had on when I got picked for everything that day in Animal Kingdom. That shirt is the ONE!!!

IMG_6976.jpg

Then it's time to warm up-

IMG_6982.jpg

Then, he comes back to us AGAIN....I think he was looking for someone to give the ball to. Maybe if i hadn't been hiding behind my camera, he would have thrown it to ME!! Did I mention that the whole time this was going on, Pods and the boys were out getting snacks? :sad2: I KNOW!!! They soooo missed it!!!

IMG_6985.jpg

IMG_6986.jpg

IMG_6987.jpg

IMG_6988.jpg

IMG_6989.jpg

So then he spots the little (as in 5 year old) girl with red hair sitting a few seats away...and he "asks" her if she wants the ball, and motions to her Mom to catch it...and. well. Now everyone in Section 103 is a Swisher fan for LIFE because he was the SWEETEST to that little girl!!! Just look!!!

IMG_7005.jpg

It really was so sweet the way he was with that little girl. It was so nice to see a professional athlete, an ALL STAR no less, who knew how to be a nice guy. REALLY refreshing. I'll post more later- I have some great shots from the end of the night when they were all jumping up & down because they won...you know....because of Swisher!

Great pics Ellen! Sadly, I lost my love of baseball after all the strikes and the crazy money involved. I was a die hard KC Royals fan growing up, George Brett was my first crush! Then I followed the Tribe for awhile when I lived in Cleveland, but I think I hate NBA players first, then baseball players next. So it was very refreshing to read that story.

It also doesn't help that I have lived the past 15 years in a city with no major league bball team. I'll take football, especially college football, any day!

It is so nice to see any athlete these days (I'm with Kara in that it seems more and more hard to find in baseball and basketball) so totally enjoy what they do and understand they get to do it because there are fans. You captured those moments so well. He's like a little kid still in awe of what he gets to do.

WOW love that camera.. its like you are on the field with them! And way to go Pods on the catch! But im a lil upset... no pics of my hubby.. Derek that is LOL

Finally caught up again! I have missed so much!!!!!!!!! :scared1:

Yummy drinks!
Good food!
LOTS of fun pics! :rotfl2:

But now I am here again - so keep on going! popcorn::

OH Yay!!! I had my focus here!! You know why he was looking at me, don't you? I was wearing what from now on I will call my lucky Mickey tank- the same one I had on when I got picked for everything that day in Animal Kingdom. That shirt is the ONE!!!

Great pictures Ellen. :thumbsup2

You know it's funny. I haven't had a lucky item of clothing since college. Used to get lots and lots of free drinks with that red dress.
But that's a different story all together.

Good morning Rosie! ;)

Ellen, what kind of camera do you have? I just got a Nikon D5000 for my bday and I'm trying to "relearn" photography. I took some great pics outside yesterday but the pics I took at Ally's swim banquet last night was kinda humorous. Blurry, etc. I need to go get a book at the library as a refresher.....

Wow, great pics! What kind of camera did you use? I love that you got the ball in the picture where Timmy almost gets it. And CC is huge. I first saw him a couple of years ago at ESPN the weekend with my son (also named Timmy) and I thought he had to be a football player. I couldn't believe it when my son told me he was a pitcher.
Great shots of Nick Swisher and he seems like a nice guy too.
We love the Yankees. My son is about to go off to Boston for college and is bringing all his Yankee shirts!

Morning Rosie! Ok- back to the game....So, the first half of the game was fairly slow, and the Rays were winning. I guess the Yankees were saving it all up for the last three innings! My boys were using the downtime to enjoy every snack known to man- cheese fries, hot dogs, ice cream....Pods & i were sharing steak sandwiches on Weck rolls (kaiser rolls with coarse salt and caraway seeds on top- O.M.G.) which were expensive, but worth every penny from NYY Steak. Yumm-O! Weck rolls are an upstate NY thing my friend Janie (the BFF I hit STJ with every January) turned me on to because that is where she is from. If you ever see something on a Weck roll- make sure you order TWO of whatever it is, because it will be da BOMB!!!

IMG_7052.jpg

IMG_7059.jpg

Somewhere in I think the 7th inning, the Yankees started to POUND it!! First, Robinson Cano hit a homerun....

IMG_7086.jpg

Followed by another homerun, hit by Jorge Posada...

IMG_7095.jpg

In the bottom of the 8th, our boy Swisher hit a homer!!! SWISHALICIOUS, BABY!!

IMG_7110.jpg

At which point, we were tied, 4-4. And you-know-who was warming up in the bullpen....

IMG_7121.jpg

Sorry- that's the only one I got of Mariano Rivera before the policeman told me to sit down during the game. OOPS. Before you know it, they were playing "Enter the Sandman" and out he came for the top of the 9th-

IMG_7126.jpg

See his #- 42? That is Timmy's number. That my DH loves to point out everytime Timmy is sent in to pitch in the 9th inning- Timmy is a pretty good closer. But, of course, Mariano Rivera is THE closer of all time. Something to aspire to, I guess! :rotfl: Anyway, on the first pitch, i think, the bat breaks and the for-all-intents-and-purposes spear goes flying into third base- along with the ball. Needless to say, A Rod didn't bother to catch the ball- he was too busy saving his life because that broken bat was FLYIN at him!!

IMG_7134-2.jpg

Anyway....the Rays were OUT...ONE TWO THREE!! Our boy Swisher made one of the outs when he caught a fly ball-

IMG_7137.jpg

But WOW. Rivera. :worship: Now it was the bottom of the 9th. Still tied, 4-4. Granderson & Gardner get singles and are on base. Miranda got out between them. We think it was a fly out. Top of the order, Jeter gets up-

IMG_7144-2.jpg

and....strikes out. :sad1: Two outs, two men on base, bottom of the 9th.... And then....it's SWISHER TIME!!!!

IMG_7150-1.jpg

He hits an RBI single...Granderson SCORES and it's a WALK-OFF!!!! THEEEEEEEE YANKEES WIN!!!!!!

IMG_7154-1.jpg

IMG_7159.jpg

IMG_7160.jpg

IMG_7163.jpg

Those boys of summer were happy, happy, HAPPY!!!! I think that game really, really meant something to them. It was not just any day. Flags were flying at half-mast, there was no announcing, and on top of all of that, they were playing the Rays who were in 2nd place position. HAD to win!!

IMG_7174.jpg

IMG_7175.jpg

IMG_7177.jpg

IMG_7180.jpg

IMG_7182.jpg

IMG_7183.jpg

IMG_7184.jpg

ARod pushed Swisher about 10 feet into the field when he was hugging him- look at their faces!!! They were like a bunch of 11 year olds winning that game- what a great, great thing to see, that baseball still MEANS something- it's not all about a paycheck and a contract.

Up next- I LIKE PIE!!! And then....back to Narcoosees....

When you have a great game...and you're on the Yankees...you know what's comin' if you're THE man and it's a walk-off!!!! Nick Swisher, can you say, "I like PIE!"

IMG_7202.jpg

IMG_7204.jpg

IMG_7205.jpg

IMG_7207.jpg

Up on the Jumbotron-

IMG_7219.jpg

AJ Burnett sure likes to hand out that whipped cream pie!!! :rotfl2: A couple more comments- what is WITH the guy in the polo shirt who seems to have checked his personality who knows where? It's like he's watching water drip. Gimme a break! I'll take his job! I know how to actually SHOW emotion and most especially JOY!! And see the tv cameraman with the red shirt and black vest literally right in Swisher's face? I was looking at the pics on my computer Saturday morning, and I realized, Hey! That's our friend Scott!! Scott is a channel 9 cameraman, he always does all the sporting events broadcast on WOR. I had forgotten all about his profession- Lucky him, huh? Talk about a great seat and a GREAT job!! :woohoo:

IMG_6734.jpg

Well, that's it- hope you all enjoyed this installment of Yankeeography. And now.....back to our regularly scheduled TR....

Yay, Ellen!!! Though I'm not really a baseball fan and we're not Yankee fans in this house (sorry, Mets rule here...even when they stink!! :rotfl:), but LOVE your photos and the Nick Swisher story....sounds like a REALLY great guy!!! Also, I agree, THAT was a night the Yankees really deserved a win!:goodvibes My Grandpa McArdle was a HUGE Yankees fan (I grew up listening to Billy Martin stories!!!), so I really can appreciate the history!!!
