The Darling Family June 2010 Trip Report: When are the Parents Showing Up?11/5 New TR

I have never seen anyone pull the sword out of the stone. YAY Michael! He should be proud of himself!

It's priceless that John would do that, though--it's something one of mine would do!

Oh wow! That's super cool about the sword. I actually didn't know that could happen! Now I know I'll have to try. Just to see if I can do it.

I honestly did not know that the sword could actually be pulled out (well partially anyway)!! Learn something new every day on the Dis!

Wow! I have never seen the sword move before! Yay for King Michael! The better hair comment by John was hilarious!
I'd never seen it move before either though I was vaguely aware it was possible. John's reaction to the whole thing just cracks me up!

Cute photopass pictures!

Wow! I have never heard someone pulling the sword out! I know it happens, but wow not something you think would happen to you. The boys hair dos are fantastic!!
That was one of the things that was so great about it. It had never occurred to me that it could happen so it was completely unexpected!

So cool that Michael got the sword to move! :woohoo: Did he ever give in and knight John? :rotfl:
Eventually Michael decided John could be a knight. I suppose he was taking his royal responsibility seriously and wanted to make sure it was a good decision:laughing:

:rotfl: too funny! Better hair!

Yay for King Michael!:worship:
It was definitely one of the funniest moments of the trip!

Loved the update!!:thumbsup2 YAY! for Michael pulling out the sword! That is so cool!! I've read that it can happen...but have never seen it! My boys would be so jealous.:rotfl: Too funny about John's comment that he has the better hair. Oh and great photopass pics!! The boys haircuts look so cute!
John himself was pretty dang jealous. This may sound strange, but I was actually glad only one of them pulled it out. It would have ruined the magic if they both did it. So even though I usually like my kids to be treated the same in such situations this was defintely an exception. And it's good it was Michael that pulled it out. Because if John had done it and Michael couldn't, Michael might not have been so good natured about it:rolleyes1

Oh, how cool!! Jack would go absolutely nuts if that were to happen to him! That's one of his favorites! I can imagine it didn't go very well with his brother, though. I love that they got all that attention for their hair, too. Can't wait to see what else you get to hit at MK that evening!
Overall John was a good sport about the whole thing. He was definitely jealous though. I'm hoping to get another update up today.

I have never seen anyone pull the sword out of the stone. YAY Michael! He should be proud of himself!

It's priceless that John would do that, though--it's something one of mine would do!
It was very exciting! John's reaction made it even better too! It was so funny to watch him huff and puff with his red face trying to budge that sword:rotfl2:

Oh wow! That's super cool about the sword. I actually didn't know that could happen! Now I know I'll have to try. Just to see if I can do it.
I think it's pretty dang rare. I knew it was possible, but I don't think I'd ever read or heard an account from someone that actually did it. So I wouldn't feel too bad if it doesn't work for you:goodvibes

I honestly did not know that the sword could actually be pulled out (well partially anyway)!! Learn something new every day on the Dis!
That is what I love about the DIS!

So now that we were in the presence of royalty we headed over to Tomorrowland to conquer the evil Zurg. It was a fun ride, of course. Always one of the boys’ favorites. King Michael did especially well this evening.

Now I know some of you may have frequented the thread about the high targets on Buzz, but I can assure you Michael has not. He definitely hit a couple of high value targets this time though. Once again, John was a bit jealous, but was good natured about it as usual. (I kept reminding him about his hair:laughing:) Here is my redneck shot.

And of course no ride on Buzz is complete without this shot.

It was around 6:00 and we needed to head over to our ADR at the Poly so we headed out of the park. As we walked by the entrance, John started clamoring about an “after photo.” Since we took a picture before his makeover he now needed an after shot so we could all remember that he was the one with the coolest hair.;) There was a line for the photographer and Michael somehow got my camera while we were waiting and took this lovely shot of me.

DSC01771.jpg

It was also at this moment that DH called, so I took a shot of John chatting with his lonely daddy. (Who I’m pretty sure was sitting at a Washington Nationals baseball game at that exact moment.)

DSC01775.jpg

While we were waiting Michael also told me he had come to an important decision. He’d decided to knight John. I don’t know why it took him so long to decide, but at least he was taking his royal responsibility seriously. So I present to you King Michael with Sir John.

Look closely at the backgrounds in these next few pictures. The train was pulling up to the station and you can see its progression. Those are the little things that make me happy.:rotfl:

So time was ticking and our ADR time was approaching. How did we get there? Monorail or boat?

Too cool about the sword! I knew nothing about that!
Long live the King (and Knight)!!!
I'm a huge Buzz fan...

Excellent pics. :thumbsup2 We never get such nice ones from photopass:confused3

Because I happen to know that it was a beautiful evening, I'm guessing you took the boat to the POLY!!

Cute pictures! I love the train in the background. I can't wait to see how your dinner went with the Knight and the King.;)

Awwww, I loved the latest updates. The haircuts make the boys look like little men instead of boys. Well, men with Mickey heads in their hair.

I can't believe that King Michael pulled the sword from the stone! In all of our trips to Disney, nobody in our party has ever pulled the sword and, believe me, we've tried.

I love that Johnl wanted to get an "after" picture! My kiddos would prefer to walk right past the photopass people most of the time.

We took a boat to the Poly for the first time this trip. So relaxing! Did you have enough time to do that, though?...popcorn::

Love the photopass pics!! YAY! for the train coming through just at that moment! That's so cool!:thumbsup2 Michael did great on Buzz! Aww...too funny that you kept reminding John of his better hair!:rotfl: Oh and cute picture with Zurg...that really is a must do picture!! :goodvibes(for us too;))

Kudos to Michael. Poor John. I did not know that the sword EVER moved.
I might have to try that again ! We will be at BVC in October for the Food & Wine Half Marathon Relay. I must admit I am not running , but our son and daughter are. Our son has done the January Marathon a few times and the Food and Wine Marathon a few times, but his sister has been training and will do the Food and Wine Half Marathon Relay for the first time. She has recently done a few 5k's where she lives. Best to you in your first
marathon ! My family thinks I should try the 5k first - I just might do that next year. Your vacation looks like the boys are really enjoying themselves.

The sword was great! A completely unplanned moment of magic:goodvibes

We've always had pretty good luck with photopass. That could be because we take so many. Eventually you're bound to get some good ones. I definitely would have preferred the boat to the Poly, but I gave the boys the choice so you'll have to wait to see what they chose.

Cute pictures! I love the train in the background. I can't wait to see how your dinner went with the Knight and the King.;)
I love the progression of the train in the background too. Just one of those little Disney details:goodvibes

Great update! :goodvibes
Thanks!

I think maybe Michael was able to pull the stone because all of the people trying before him were older. So he just got lucky being a young one walking up at the right time. Definitely made my day!

My two oldest kids usually love getting their pictures taken. Michael rebels about it at times which you'll see as the report progresses.

John and his hair really was funny. It was a running joke this day and even continues through the next day!

Kudos to Michael. Poor John. I did not know that the sword EVER moved.

I don't think the sword moves very often. Michael just got lucky. You should definitely try running at Disney. It's so much fun! You're family is probably right in suggesting you start out with a 5K. A half marathon is a long ways.

Wow! So :cool1: about the sword. I didn't realize it could be pulled that late in the day. I had only heard about it happening in the morning. :cheer2: King Michael.

And that is some cool hair Sir John.:cool1:

And love the photopass pics, they look great with the train coming in.

I guess the sword can be pulled whenever the King appears;) The train really does add some fun to the photopass pics!~

Loved the train progression in the photos - good eye!
The photopass photographer actually mentioned it while he was taking it. I didn't realize what he meant until I saw the pictures myself.

We were at the Magic Kingdom and needed to get to the Poly for our dinner ADR. I asked the boys if they wanted to ride the boat or the monorail. They both chose the monorail which was a good thing because if they had disagreed King Michael probably would have asserted his royal power which Sir John may have resented. I’d already had to assure Sir John that the sword only made Michael king for the day, but John’s hair could last through tomorrow.:rotfl: Anyway we found ourselves on an empty monorail car and since there were no grown ups around the boys spent the ride dancing.

DSC01777.jpg

We arrived at the Polynesian and headed over to Ohana’s check in. We’d been to this resort before. We’d stayed at Shades of Green and always walked from there over to catch the monorail at the Poly. However, we had never eaten here and after all of the rave reviews I’d heard I was excited for the meal. Check in was a bit chaotic with the long lines and all of the people crowding the waiting area. Eventually they called our name and we found ourselves being led to the best table in the house. We sat down right by the window and this was our view.

DSC01779.jpg

Yes, that is the castle. Too bad we weren’t going to still be around for the fireworks. By turning our heads just a little we could see this.

DSC01782.jpg

So far we were all very happy with Ohana’s. Before we knew it the food started arriving fast and furious. There was the bread (very yummy). It tasted like the bread we’d had at Olivia’s the night before. Then the salad with yummy dressing. Call me strange, but these were my favorite parts of the meal (except for the dessert.). Then came the chicken wings and the dumplings. None of us particularly liked the wings, but we all liked the dumplings (except maybe John.)

DSC01784.jpg

Then they brought the noodles (which John did like) and the vegetables. Then the skewers of meat began arriving. I have to be honest. The meat was not very good. All of it was a bit overcooked and much of it was just too tough. The shrimp was ok, but I personally think the work it takes to peel shrimp is not worth the reward of eating it. So I think I only bothered peeling one shrimp. While they were bringing our food they called the kids up for the parade. The boys joined in the fun.

DSC01789.jpg

They even did the limbo.

DSC01788.jpg

After we were pretty much stuffed they brought out the bread pudding. Yummy! This was definitely the best part of the meal. My final verdict on Ohana’s dinner. It was ok. Would I go back? Maybe someday, but there are other meals I’ve enjoyed more. I’m not sure I’d ever pay out of pocket for it either. On the dining plan it doesn’t matter, but I think the price is a bit inflated. I’m glad we did it though. The only place I’ve eaten in Disney with a better view is California Grill.:goodvibes

So we rolled ourselves out to the monorail and took it back to the Magic Kingdom where we caught a bus back to our resort. We settled into our room. I put the boys to bed and headed out to the patio for a little reading before bed. Another great Disney day was in the books.:cloud9:
