PTR Oct 2010 - An Aussie returns: Back home and TR started (11/02)

You have both inspired me for the meet in October...I actually took the steps to dust the dog hair off the treadmill today :rolleyes1 hey baby steps baby steps :rotfl2:

Hey, baby steps are better than no steps :) I took the bus today, but I stopped at Subway for dinner instead of ordering Chinese like I was thinking about. It's a little healthier, but it'd be better for me without the mayo :rotfl: and they have free wifi, so I'm posting with my iPod :teeth:

PrincessInOz, you crack me up! I love reading your PTRs and TR. I would give anything to be at WDW even if just for 3 days! Eagerly awaiting more news.

BTW, I don't know how you keep up with all the different DISboards threads. I am struggling here just to post my photos for the scavenger hunt. And I only just found out yesterday that Ms Shuttergirl now has an earlier trip planned as well. Been trying to write a PTR but haven't had time!!!!

That's good exercise...And have any of your 8 dogs gotten back on the treadmill so that you can dust again? :rotfl2:

I've actually cut down on the quantity of food that I'm eating....baby steps....baby steps!

Hi Shushh! Welcome to my PTR. Scavenger hunt photos are for the weekend. Everything else is when I can fit it in.

Yes - I'm about to officially join the Sept/Oct planners....soon.

And I dare you to start your PTR before the Melbourne DisMeet popcorn::!

Disney have worked out that most of us Disers like to think about eating our meals at least 180 days in advance. In true Disney service and style, they have most graciously allowed us the pleasure of being able to wake up at an ungodly hour so that we can go on line or ring up to book the Table Service restaurant of our choice at the 180 day advance mark. Such is the demand for this pleasure that it would seem that many of us have now taken to camping in front of our PCs or phones so that we can be the first transaction or call taken by the CMs in the rush to ensure that we get the restaurant and time of our choice.

Assuming that most Disers make the 180 day mark, this would mean that by the time we get to the restaurant, we would have spent at least the equivalent of
  • 4,320 hours; or
  • 259,200 minutes; or
  • 15,522,000 seconds
salivating over a meal that we might not feel like eating by the time we get to the parks.

I don't know about you but I'm pretty sure that my tastebuds would be sick of tasting the meal for this amount of time.

These bud-tingling timeframes of course do not include any of the time that we may have spent in advance determining which menu and restaurant we would like to eat at and so the actual time it takes us to chew the fat of our meal may actually be longer!

Me - I have found a new way to deal with the stress of ADRs. I have found FRIENDS on the DisBoard. Even though this is a 'might not be going' PTR, DisneyFirefly and LuvChefMic and I have dining DATES at the World. It only took us about 30 posts to determine the dates and restaurant for our mini DisMeet.

LuvChefMic originally suggested that I could pick the restaurant and before I could push the decision making posts into the 40's, in the end, she made the choice and DisneyFirefly made the booking - for not 1; but 2 ADRs on 2 separate nights. :woohoo:
(Note: For those of you who are interested in the summary version of the 30 posts, please go to DisneyFirefly's PTR. For those of you interested in the full version of the 30 posts, us Poster Gals of the Lasting Kind already have way too much competition on that thread to openly advertise...but feel free to PM anyone of us and we'll tell you where to go!)

So it turns out that I now have a share in 2 ADRs - both out of the fine art of 30 posts on another thread.

This is sure turning out as a 'might not be a might not be going' PTR.

I was just thinking those poor chefs...talk about raising the bar of expectation on their craft :scared1: they not only have to have a high magical standard to begin with now they have a family that has been salivating & dreaming for 180 days at least :rotfl: God Bless them I could never do that !

Hey, the more pressure I can put on my old coworkers, the happier I'll be ;) One of my old custodial coworker is going down for a culinary program soon. I don't remember when he's going to be there, but I know he's been accepted.

I think this is partially why you can be SOOO disappointed in a meal and at the time so angry if it isn't meeting the expected standard (and especially if it doesn't even come close).
For me this came in the form of Le Cellier. I discovered after all the hype they were incapable of cooking a Well done steak to even a competent standard let alone a superior quality expected given the price and hype.

But getting back to the main lady ;)
Sounds definitely like a might be rather than a might not be :woohoo:

All that food porn has me salivating. I swear if you post that photo of dolewhip again I'll come down to Melbourne and slap you silly!

I hope you do go because it really will be a wonderful treat for you and let you have a DS free experience. As cute and wonderful as he is (love the photos in the TR and hearing about the family stuff. You clearly had a great time together.) I reckon you could do with some adult time.
And HOPEFULLY you will not be SICK this time!

may the PTR continue popcorn::

Make sure you share those thoughts and calculations with him! The pressure......

Oooh! I see your problem! At the risk of you slapping me silly (how many times now?? :cutie:), the fault lies in your order; not the cooking. You want to KILL that poor steak! I've been dialling back my steak order for a number of visits now.
  • I started with well done.
  • I moved back to medium/well done.
  • I then hit medium.
  • I'm now at medium/rare.
For my next visit, I'm going to cross that sacred cow and order my steak rare. It might actually come out well done :rotfl2:.

BTW - This overcooking of a well done steak is consistent across all of the USA; not just at WDW.

Is this a threat or a promise?
Well, information is power. As I KNOW that you've already exhausted your Sydneysider excuse of "one visit a year to Melbourne is all I can take" at Easter, I think I'm pretty safe for THIS year.

ps. It's still not too late for you to book a ticket to come to Melbourne next Friday for the MELBOURNE DisMeet!!!

Thanks Queenie! Responses in purple above :rotfl2:

evil evil person :furious:

Now I would be willing to change my rule if you can convince my boss I can have more leave :scratchin and pay my airfare :flower3:

As for Steak...yeah yeah yeah...I know most people like their meat raw...and complain if people dare to cook it.
I just keep thinking of in the movie with Catherine Zeta Jones where she comes out of the kitchen with a raw steak and smacks it into the table :rotfl2::rotfl2:

My biggest complaint with Le Cellier is it was a medium at best that had been chucked into an open flame. raw red in the middle...charcoal on the outside. And they did it to all 3 orders. Thankfully it wasn't me expected to eat it. I got the Veal which was pretty good...
The Wave AND R&C BOTH managed to make BEAUTIFUL well done steaks though so the order isn't the problem.
The Summit...in Sydney...heard of it? They have perfected the art of a well done steak as well.

Notice any changes?

It's official! I am no longer cheering from the sidelines...

DH's managers have agreed that he needs to spend some time in the Head Office after the conference.

So, my equation is not just Fly 2 days for 3 at WDW; it also includes 2 full days in Silicon Valley, plus an extra day that I will count as transition time from Orlando to San Francisco.
In short, I will have 6 full days in the US, which is definitely an equation I like! :woohoo:

It might NOT be a might not be going PTR....Let the planning continue in earnest!

If you've been following this thread, you'll have noticed that DisneyFirefly, LuvChefMic and I had a bit of chatter around Step 5 (post 33) about getting all hot and sweaty over a bike and "dusting" off the equipment.

We also thought we would eat right and try and lose some of that excess saddle bag weight that we're carrying.

Well, I've lost 0.3 kg.
