I called the resort, and the lady that answered the phone said Universal was 9 miles away. That seems pretty far for being in the same city. How the heck big is Orlando, anyway? LOL

Most likely we wil be driving our own van, but we don't want to be driving 45 minutes in traffic. So if Cypress Pointe is not less than a 15 minute drive, we will need to look at staying closer.

That sounds about right Marie. I live in Orlando and Universal is just over 19 miles from my house. Orlando is a big town that is stretched out all over the place.

The city encompasses about 100 square miles. That's not a lot bigger than Boston (just under 90 square miles) when all of the neighborhoods (Allston, Brighton, Charlestown, Hyde Parke, etc., etc.) are included but, as newmouse2008 says, Orlando is really spread out and quite irregularly shaped. With that, though, the theme park area of Orlando is tucked into a fairly compact part of the city.

It's about nine miles from Cypress Pointe Resort to the Universal parking garages if you take I-4 (12 to 15 minutes if traffic is moderate) or about 7 miles if you take Palm Parkway/Turkey Lake Road (right about 15 minutes). Though there are a few traffic lights along the way on the Palm Pkwy/Turkey Lake route the traffic is fairly light compared with all the traffic flowing to and on I-4. Palm Parkway is maybe a quarter mile from the resort.

It is 15 minutes or less using the Palm Parkway / Turkey Lake "back route". No need to deal with I4 at all which saves a ton of time & aggravation. Extremely close & easy. Also easy to get to Seaworld, Wet N Wild & of course Disney at <1 mile. One of the BEST locations in all of Orlando for easy access to parks/attractions and a very pedestrian friendly area around the resort itself which is a rare thing in Orlando.

We'll be staying at CPGV 7/27-8/12. The location is perfect!

Sounds about right. We stayed at cypress Pointe back in February and it was wonderful!! Their website also has a link to very cheap car rentals if you need to rent a car.

the resort was only a mile from the Downtown Disney access road and about 10 minutes to Univeral

HTH

Also, keep in mind that in casual conversation "Orlando" includes a huge chunk of Osceola County and arguably bits of Lake and Polk. It's just a sprawling suburbia, not really a true city.

I lived across the street from Cyprus Pointe for 4 years--skip I-4, take Turkey Lake Road, you will be on Universal property in under 15 minutes. I would argue you are better off staying there than some of the closer resorts located on I-Drive, just because of the lack of traffic.

Just got back from staying at Cypress Pointe - which was lovely in the Grande Villas (phase 2.)

It is a perfect location for all parks, it is the 3rd time we have stayed in that same area, just trying out the different resorts.

Universal & IOA is 15 minutes (20 at most,) as has been mentioned take the Turkey Lake Road route. Sea World is 5-10 minutes away, again go up Turkey Lake Road. Downtown Disney about a mile away. MK was 20 minutes from car park to door (didn't check the time going, but it was 20 minutes back,) HS is 10 minutes at most, Epcot and AK around 15 minutes each to get to.

It's also perfect, if you want to eat out and fancy a drink, as there are plenty of places to eat (and drink) within 5-10 minute walk.

I will be checking in there next week.. I am in a 2 bedroom. Can you please tell me if there are TV's in all the bedrooms in phase 2? I understand there are renovations, and some units have TV's in all the bedrooms now, but I am thinking that is in phase 1 ..not 2.

Let's put it this way...Orlando is the picture of urban sprawl.

We had a one bedroom in phase 2, and we had 2 TV's. One in the living area, one in the bedroom, so I don't actually know the answer to that, but I do know the 2 bedrooms have washing machines.

Just be aware, they will try to get you to go to the "owner's update." I got hassled when we arrived, just not something you want after a long flight from England, and then every time I dared to pick up the phone. Must have been at least 5 times - mind you this was the only thing that annoyed me. Just don't answer the phone, if it's important they'll leave a voice message.
