Question about the filming of Toy Story 3 / 3D

Does anyone know... was Toy Story 3 filmed for 3D? If we go to the 3D movie, can you watch it without glasses?

I ask because. My husband saw Avatar and Clash of the Titans 3D. He said that Avatar was filmed to be in 3D and didn't watch the same with glasses whereas Clash of the Titans the 3D was kind of an after thought so it wasn't specifically filmed for 3D so watching without glasses was fine.

I ask because we are taking our son to see TS3 on Friday. We would like to see 3D but I dont know if my son (or me for that matter) will wear the glasses and tolerate the 3D for the whole movie.

avatar was done in a more in a low key 3-d so it was 3-d just not popping out at you type style.

That is the way I felt when we saw Alice in Wonderland in 3D recently. It was like you were in the movie, very immersive. I haven't seen it in 2D yet, I am worried I won't enjoy it as much.

We haven't seen the 2 you mention or TS3 yet. If you go to the 3D version, it will probably be grainy without the glasses, some 3D are and to me it is more difficult to watch.

I wear glasses and it is difficult anyway, wearing 2 pairs of glasses.

I don't know if TS3 was flimed specifically for 3D, but I do know that you can see it normally as you would any other non-3D film. Most theaters will offer you IMAX 3D or Disney Digital 3D (sometimes called RealD 3D). I have found that the difference between the two is that digital is usually more easy on the eyes and you don't have to focus as hard. IMAX is a little less forgiving, making it quite difficult to watch longer movies like Avatar (for most people). Both versions look grainy when you take off the glasses; digital slightly less so, but it's still noticeable. In conclusion, you should probably go with digital if you want a less intense experience for your son.
