Alternate Title: "We Ate All the Food and We Broke All the Rides! (And Who Needs Sleep, Anyway?)" This sums up our trip well, but it's a bit long for a title...

Anyway, welcome to our third WDW trip in the last 9 months! The first was a commando-style 4.5 day trip last September. The second was a leisurely 10 day/3 resort vacation in January. This one was a 3.75 day marathon of Star Wars Weekends, ADRs, and late MK nights!

The cast of this trip consists of my husband, "Dug", and me, "Dugette":

Our dog Bailey (see background of pic) went to "camp" (kennel). Our cat Kitty guarded the house while we were gone:

Our trip was Thursday, June 3rd to Monday, June 7th, 2010 (Thursday being travel only). Our primary objective was Star Wars Weekends, as Dug is a big Star Wars fan. I'm not so much (I don't mind it, but it's just not my thing), but I got to go to WDW for it, so that was just fine!

We originally booked our resort as a bounceback during our January trip. We booked POFQ and intended to stay there. Until a couple weeks before our trip...

Since I work in accounting, naturally I was doing "fuzzy Disney math" during my spare moments at work. Some things you should know:

1.) We wanted to eat at all the places at AKL sometime, but didn't know when we'd be able to fit that in.
2.) We like animals. We were intrigued by AKL. And there are Zebra Domes there.
3.) With the Annual Passholder discount and an arrival night at Pop Century, it would be less than $250 total to upgrade POFQ to AKL Savanna View.
4.) I had some money saved up (my "fun money") that I was willing to use on Disney.
5.) I opened a Disney Visa card recently and got $200 to spend at Disney...for free!

Given the set of circumstances, you can see how foolish we'd be NOT to upgrade, right? So, we ended up switching around our resort and many ADRs to accommodate this last-minute change.

We have a lot in common it seems! Our Bailey is a black-and-white Cocker Spaniel. We also were not on the DDP this trip, just Tables in Wonderland discounts. And if I have to wait in some long SW lines to go to WDW, so be it! And it was fun to see Dug as excited as a little boy!

Great start can't wait to hear how crazy DHS was with the star wars weekend. My DH would have sat on a bench and said have fun standing in line to get autograghs.

I will say that this was by far the most and longest lines I've waited in at Disney so far. I can't blame your DH for wanting to sit it out!

Our jouney into hyperspace was fast approaching. It was the day before our trip (Wednesday, 6/2). Dug noticed a small spot near the corner of his lip. Normally, this would not be a cause for concern. But, if you read our last trip report (“The Magic and the Misery”), you know why this small spot caused a big freak out. For those not in the know, Dug was diagnosed with impetigo just hours before our January trip. And it did not get better until we returned home and got better medication for it. It was not fun. I will spare you pictures of it (they can be seen in the old TR if you’re a glutton for punishment). However, I will show you the small spot that caused panic before this trip:

Looks pretty innocent, right? Well, Dug wasn’t taking his chances. He called up the doctor’s office that gave him the antibiotic that worked when we got home from our last trip. Asked for a refill, just in case. And they approved it! He picked up the antibiotic after work that day and began taking it. The good news is that he had no problem this trip! We don’t know if it was impetigo or not (the odds of having it again can’t be very high), but Dug was healthy for this trip (and took the full course of medication, just in case). On a side note (to those who read about my illness during our last trip), I was healthy too! I put us both on an Airborne regimen both before and during this trip. I wasn’t taking any chances, either.

So, our health taken care of, we prepared for departure. Packed that night. The next day, Thursday 6/3, we got up early and loaded up the car with luggage, for us and for the dog. Said goodbye to Kitty. Gave her a big heap of food. Got the dog (Bailey) in the car. Dug drove me up to the park and ride, so that I could take the bus to work, as usual. On the way, I realized that I forgot to make sandwiches to bring to the airport with us for dinner. Oh, well.

After dropping me off, Dug brought Bailey to “camp” (since we had no relatives available to take her during this trip). We had forgotten to pack her leash, so he had to carry her inside. Once in the lobby, she ran around while he completed the paperwork. Normally, she likes going to camp and runs straight inside the kennel area when they open the door. But last time I brought her there, she wanted to stay with me instead and had to be led back there on her leash. Dug experienced the same kind of thing this time. Bailey just wanted to stay with him. When the person working there called her over, she did go over. But, when the lady tried to pick her up, Bailey crouched down and peed all over the floor! Good thing they know and love her there! So, the lady took her back and Dug headed to work.

We both worked all day. I had lunch at the cafeteria at work just so that I could pick up a couple of to-go sandwiches for our dinner at the airport. Who needs overpriced airport food? Plus, we wanted to make sure we’d have enough time to eat. Dug’s sister had again agreed to let Dug park in her driveway and then take him to the (nearby) airport. However, she had a meeting at work and didn’t think she’d be able to get home until 5:15pm or so. Our flight was at 7pm and this made Dug a bit nervous.

I had an all-company meeting at work that was supposed to end at 4pm. I was planning to leave right after that. Well, of course, it ran late. Around 4pm, there were 10-15 people that bailed (busses to catch). I tried to wait it out, though, as I didn’t want to be rude and leave while the guest speaker was still talking. I managed to stick it out about another 15-20 minutes, until the guest speaker was done. It was then announced that, although we were running late, we were still going to be doing our fun team-building activity with prizes. I scooted out of the room at that point, along with a couple others. I had a flight to catch!

Went back to my desk and grabbed my stuff. Almost forgot the sandwiches in the fridge, but I got them! I changed into jeans and headed for the light rail to the airport.

Meanwhile, Dug’s sister had changed up her plans. Instead of being in a meeting at work, she had to bring a work-related guest to the airport for a 5:15pm flight! Dug found out about this on his way out of work, as his sister wanted to take them at the same time. He ended up telling her to take the other person and come back for him, as the other person was cutting it ridiculously close to their flight time.

Due to this fun, I actually got to the airport before Dug (for the first time in our 3 trips)! I went down to the door that he wanted me to meet them at and sat outside to wait. The whole time I was waiting, there was an SUV parked right in front of me. There was no activity outside the car. I could see an infant in the backseat (little hand waving around). I could see there was someone else in the backseat, but couldn’t make out how old of a person. Seemed small, though, like at best a 12-year-old maybe? Anyway, 5-10 minutes go by with this baby and possible child sitting in the backseat of an unattended car. My first thought is that they sure don’t police the drop-off area like they used to…no police anywhere asking idle cars to move! Second thought was, “Do I report this to someone?” Finally, a man came out of the airport. He took the baby out of the car and played with it. Never could make out the age of the other person. Then, he put the baby back and went back into the airport again. Very strange. As I was pondering this, Dug and his sister arrived. By the time I’d finished helping to unload our luggage, the SUV was gone. Odd.

We said goodbye and thank you to Dug’s sister then headed into the check-in area. We grabbed some seats by the door and just decided to eat there. We were doing pretty good on time, the security lines weren’t too long, and we didn’t want our water confiscated.

The dinner I had gotten for us earlier was: a Roast Beef on Focaccia for Dug, an Italian on Ciabatta for me, a side of baby carrots and dip to share, and a bottle of water to share. My sandwich was super messy. Both were big, though, and filled us up.

Time to check our bags. We got one free checked bag each, since we were flying Delta and have the Delta AmEx cards. Good deal. We actually had a lot of room to spare in the luggage, since we each were able to take a big checked bag and a small carry-on for free.

Headed over to the security line. Noticed that there was a guy who was talking on his cell phone while he removed his shoes and filled up his bins. Seemed unwise, why not hang up the phone and call back after security?

We sailed smoothly through security. Although the guy working there shuffled around my things, which caused my quart-sized bag to rip open. Oh, well, no big deal.

We were through security before we knew it. This turned out to be the least rushed airport experience we’d had in a long time. We found our gate, grabbed some seats, used the restrooms (cool Dyson hand dryer in there!), and read. I only got through the Main Street section of the Hidden Magic book I was re-reading and it was time to board!

We were just in front of the wing. Dug had the window seat, I was in the middle, and another woman was seated next to me. Since the flight was not full, they made an announcement that people could change seats if they wanted to. A flight attendant informed the woman next to me that there was an open window seat a few rows back, if she wanted it. She considered it, but it was obvious that she preferred her aisle seat, so I told her it didn’t matter to me…I was just planning to sleep anyway. So, she stayed put. She said she’d worked hard for her aisle seat. She hates it when she has to jump over people to get out. I was thinking, “Good thing I don’t plan on getting up during this flight then!”

My plan to sleep during the flight was thwarted by lots of turbulence. Between the bumps and the dinging and the frequent announcements, I only got a little rest. But we did enjoy our Fresca and peanuts.

Dug wanted to watch the movie that was showing, "Invictus". They started it really late, though. So late, in fact, that they didn't have time to show the end of the movie. Now Dug will have to rent it sometime!

The woman next to me wasn’t a problem, for the most part. Until towards the end of the flight. She got up to use the restroom. When she returned, I was hit by a wave of scent. I think she must have doused herself in perfume! Uggggg! I had to bury my nose in Dug’s shoulder for awhile (pretending to sleep) because I could hardly breathe!

Luckily, we arrived at MCO shortly after. We had an interesting flight attendant/announcer on the plane. For instance, as we were pulling into the gate, we hear, “If you have any comments or feedback on this flight, please write it on a $20 bill and hand it to a flight attendant on your way out. If you have lost anything on the plane, just go to our website at 'www.ebay.com/delta/flightattendantretirementfund' and you can bid on your things to get them back…” Interesting and mildly amusing.

Although we were getting in at the same time as our last two trips (just after 11pm Florida time), it seemed like the airport was busier than we’d ever seen it at that time. Not crowded, just busy. We knew June would likely be busier than September or January, but this was our first sign of it.

Once we had disembarked from our plane, we made the traditional restroom stop, took the mini-monorail, then headed down to find our luggage (we were coming in too late to have Disney handle the bags). Once we had retrieved our bags, we made our way to the Magical Express area. On the way, we saw these signs:

As is now tradition for us, there was no wait at the Magical Express counter. (Don’t worry, the people you see behind me in the picture were gone by the time we made it up to the counter):

After checking in, they sent us on our way down the corridor. Also empty:

We were on the Magical Express, waiting to leave, by about 11:30pm. We took our “traditional” seat in the front row. Behind the driver, just like last time. A number of other people loaded on. I heard another ME person tell our bus driver that he had a lot of people for Pop Century on his bus. After about 10 minutes, we were on the road. We forgot to take a picture of the famous WDW sign, but you’ll see us make up for that later.

Our first stop was Saratoga Springs. Ah, memories of our last trip…trying to get to Downtown Disney via Saratoga Springs. Anyway, one family got out there. Next, we headed over to Port Orleans Riverside. Ah, memories of our “home” last time! Several people got off the bus there. We passed French Quarter on our way out…the “home” that almost was for this trip! Next up was Pop Century!:

I remembered reading somewhere that you can get stuck in a long line to check in because of all the people on the ME coming in at once. So, Dug and I hatched a plan! Dug would go retrieve all of our bags and I would zoom straight into the lobby to check us in. We were feeling quite clever! Well, turns out that the driver made an announcement that, because there were so many people getting off here, we were all to wait in the bus until he had removed all of our bags from the bus. After that, he would let us out. Because we were in the front seat, and therefore getting off the bus first, this worked out pretty well for us. Once he let us off, we were each able to quickly grab our own bags and head inside!

We did the online check-in, which actually had a slightly longer (1 minute or so) wait than the standard check-in. We asked the CM about transferring our luggage to AKL the next day. They said that all we needed to do was call before leaving, then leave our luggage in the room, next to the window. Nice, easy transfer!

We were in the ‘80’s section. The CM drew us a map of where to go. We had a different route in mind, though. On our September trip, we’d stayed at Pop, but were in the parks so much that we never had a chance to explore it…at all. We at least wanted to see the Generation Gap bridge. So, we dragged our luggage the long and scenic route around Pop. Here’s the bridge and the view from the bridge:

We walked along the lake and enjoyed all the signs about ‘80’s milestones. We also caught sight of this at some point:

We were pleasantly surprised at how nice this room was. I’m assuming it had been recently remodeled. Not that there was anything wrong with the ‘50’s section we stayed at in September, but this was super nice and felt very new! For what it’s worth, we were in room 7439. And, if we had a car, it would have been very convenient to the parking lot. I’d definitely return to this room/building again!

Yes just for the day. We live about an hour and a half from THE WORLD! I really wanted to see MSEP & the new fireworks so I took DD with me. It was great! But we won't be going back until after summer is over! Too hot and crowded now!!

No foreshadowing on the luggage transfer! It actually was easier and more convenient to transfer luggage from Pop than from the Poly or the WL!

I was super impressed by the Pop refurb! Too bad we only had a few hours there.

I didn't see any sleeping bags, but that's not to say they weren't there earlier! Actually, I overheard that a large group of people took turns staying in line and going back to the hotel for naps. SWW is pretty crazy if you want to do all the SW stuff. Otherwise, the regular attractions were generally not too bad.

Welcome! You may have missed SWW, but I bet you saw the F&G stuff. We really wanted to do a low-budget, short, spontaneous trip to see the topiaries and such, but it didn't work out. Oh, well, whatever you miss out on just gives you a good excuse to go back, huh?

You remember last night, right? When we went to bed around 1:30am? Well, I see a Tweet this morning that Dug made at 5:15am that reads: “I am not convinced that 3.5 hours of sleep will get us through 2 am extra magic hours at Magic Kingdom. How is it morning already?!” Keep in mind that our bodies were still on Minnesota time…4:15am!!!

We got ready and Dug put on his T-shirt that he won from studioscentral.com (for answering a Star Wars trivia question correctly):

Gathered up our stuff, put our luggage by the window, made the call for them to pick it up, and headed out. We managed to take a few more pictures of Pop on the way to the bus stop:

The bus stop was pretty empty at quarter to 7am:

There was one family ahead of us in line. We weren’t sure exactly when the DHS busses would start running. This was an Extra Magic Hour morning, so the park would be opening at 8am for resort guests. We figured there would likely be a bus by 7am. Sure enough, one came along about 10 minutes to 7am:

If you don’t know how the autographs for SWW work: You line up for Fast Passes (which do not affect your ability to get other Fast Passes) for whichever celebrity guest you want. There are certain times that they sign autographs, so the Fast Passes list a time on them. Before park opening, the CMs begin distributing the Fast Passes. Once they run out of them, they distribute Standby passes, which do not guarantee an autograph, only a chance if the celebrity has extra time.

The celebrities for our week were:

*Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian)
*Ray Park (Darth Maul) (also was the knife guy on Heroes )
*Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett)
*Dave Filoni (director of Clone Wars)
*Ashley Eckstein (voice of Ahsoka on Clone Wars)

We arrived at the Studios around 7am. We saw a long line winding around the corner. We had a suspicion that this was the crazy Billy Dee Williams autograph line that we’d been dreading. We had heard that people were lining up at 6pm the previous night for this. Headed straight towards the end of it to find out what was going on. There was a CM there who said that they could no longer guarantee a Fast Pass for Billy Dee Williams. We could have taken our chances and had one of us wait in that line, just in case, but we decided to take advantage of our other opportunities instead. Dug got in the second-longest line, which was for Ray Park. I headed up to check out the other 3 (much shorter) lines.

Dug and I talked on our cell phones to determine which line I should get into. Jeremy, Dave, and Ashley’s lines were all very short still (less than 10 people in each). First, Dug had me get in Jeremy’s line. Then he changed his mind and had me move over to Ashley’s line. I believe I was the 5th person in line. I was right next to the very beginning of the Billy Dee Williams line. So, I overheard a few things. Apparently, the front of the line consisted of a group of 12 people who had been there since the previous evening. They had been switching off standing in line all night, so people had been going back to their hotels to sleep. One of the people told me that Billy Dee Williams usually charges $40 for an autograph! I have no idea if that’s true.

A girl ahead of me in line had an awesome backpack. Darth Hello Kitty! I managed to snag a picture when I saw her again later in the day:

While I was in line, I noticed someone at the front of the Ray Park line looked familiar. To this day, I can’t place her, but I feel like she must be on the Dis. Oh, well, guess I’ll keep an eye out on these trip reports.

Meanwhile, Dug was way back in line, out of my sight. Here was his view:

I was way up around the corner, to the right, by the little signs you may see up there. He’s in the Ray Park line, the long line next to him was Jeremy Bulloch (it had gotten quite a bit longer while we were waiting). On the very right, you see the Billy Dee Williams line—it went back much, much farther than that.

Dug had talked to a CM early on and found out that EMH SWW mornings are kind-of crummy for Disney resort guests. Our plan had been to gather autograph Fast Passes, then go into the park for EMH and get TSM FP’s (and probably ride it too). Unfortunately, Dug found out that they do not give out the autograph FP until 8:45am! So, rather than being in the park enjoying TSM, ToT, and RnRC, we’d be stuck in line outside the park for a total of 1 hour and 45 minutes! Yuck!

After a while, as I was still the last person in the Ashley Eckstein line, I went back to Dug’s spot to pick up some things from him. He wanted me to have my camcorder ready for the Storm Troopers show/bit at opening (not sure if they did it, though, we couldn’t see anything). I wanted my iPod to listen to WDW Today podcasts. With camcorder and iPod in hand, I made my way back to Ashley’s line. Coincidentally, there was a guy just getting in line. I would have happily gotten in line behind him, but the lady who’d been in front of me the whole time told him that it was my spot. So, I got back in line where I’d been. People were nice that way. I saw a lot of people leaving and returning.

I listed to some podcasts to pass the time. Took a little random video of the limited view I had from my spot in line. Eventually, CMs started to gather at the front of the lines. Somewhere along the way, I had learned that you can go back for more FP once you’ve obtained one…just have to go to the end of the line. Since I was so close to the front of the Ashley line (which had gotten much longer towards the end of the wait), I would immediately exit and get in line for Dave Filoni.

Sure enough, at 8:45am, the CMs started handing out the FP. I grabbed an Ashley one, then filed through the exit. They were really directing traffic, making sure no one cut in line. Once I got all the way to the back, I (along with many others) got in the Dave line. Grabbed that FP. Started to repeat the process again to get a Jeremy FP. As I was walking towards the end of the line, I saw Dug in the Jeremy line already, since he’d gotten the Ray FP. So, I turned around and made my way back to the entrance to meet Dug.

In case you were wondering, all these FP were for Dug. I had no interest in the autographs. But, we did manage to get him FP for 3 of the celebrities. We also got a Standby Pass for Jeremy Bulloch, as they were out of FP when Dug went up.

With those securely stowed away (we’d heard that if you drop them, you’re out of luck), we were ready to head into the park.
