So today was DHS day. We decided to sleep in a little as we were so exhausted. We had breakfast at the Villa then headed over to DHS. It was HOT today! For some reason, nothing was really appealing to us for counter service and we really needed some AC, so we headed over to the Commisary. I had a burger (which was just OK) and fries--which were a little skimpy. DD had the Asian Salad and asked for grilled chicken. They grilled her a whole boneless chicken breast and put it on the side. Um, Ok. She liked it enough although mentioned there wasn't enough dressing. DH and DS both had the chicken curry and liked it. We had to wait forever for our lunches here. I guess the chicken curry threw them for a loop. Not sure, but they were very nice at the counter and apologized, but I bet we waited 10 minutes just for the curry.:confused3 It was nice to sit in the AC for awhile though. DH ordered the chocolate mousse and liked it. The rest of us got strawberry shortcake but DS was the only one of us who liked it. The food choices at this park are a little lacking IMO.

Overall Grade: C(-)

50's Prime Time Cafe: Our ADR was for 6:50 and as usual, the place was packed. They took us right away and seated us at a table with a TV, which I was hoping for. Our waitress was awesome. Funny, friendly, informative and efficient. We had a great time here. My kids had been talking about the PB & J shakes for weeks and they each ordered one of those. DH ordered a chocolate shake and I ordered a root beer float. All were excellent. The shakes here are to die for, but sooooo filling. DH and DS ordered the fried chicken (which I wish I had done), DD ordered the meatloaf, which she loved. (I wasn't crazy about the sauce on it) I order the tuna casserole, which, in theory, sounded delish, but the tuna (fresh tuna) was way overcooked and very dry. It came on a bed of egg noodles with bread crumb topping. It was a very large portion and I ate about half of it. For dessert, DH and DD opted out. DS had the smores (yum) and I had a strawberry sundae. (also yum) We enjoyed our experience here very much. Service was great, love the atmosphere and food (for the most part) was very good.

Overall Grade: B+/A-

C- is a generous grade for ABC Commisary hahaha. That place has NOTHING good to eat. We went there during our first trip, and had a miserable dining experience there.

Yeah, the AC was seriously the best part of this lunch--it's only redemption.

I absolutely LOVE their Cuban Sandwich... must do for me every trip!:hippie:

It really is ... the food I had there (the burger - how do you mess up a burger anyway?) was just awful!!!! At the time they had some other sandwich on the menu - a cuban maybe? I was considering ordering that, but the menu didn't give a description and the cast member taking my order couldn't tell me anything about it... that ain't good.

I try to keep from saying anything bad about any place because taste is subjective, but wow - between food and service.... the Commissary is just not good eats. :sad2:

just my .02...

ETA - the fried chicken at Prime Time? Always amazing!!!! :)

we went to the 50's for the first time last September and both of us had the fried chicken......The vanilla milk shake was awesome and the HOT FUDGE SUNDAE was OMGOODNESS fantastic.....huge and delicious what more can we ask for......I would love to do it again but when the place was a wee bit quieter..having a heat sun headache and starving to boot...the noise level was a wee bit high......
Thanks for your reviews

I think that's been off the menu for a while, now. I wholeheartedly agree that the burgers were "gray" in flavor, if that makes sense. I'm basing this on my experience taste testing with Len from the Unofficial Guide. (I wouldn't have chosen ABC Commissary if the group hadn't been guinea pigs!) Len was actually far more generous in his rating, too. I think C+ might have been his rating for their food.

Next time I'm stuck for a quick option for a lunch, I'd pick up a sandwich at Starring Rolls. It's the least offensive quick service food place at DHS, IMHO.

Our CS at the Commissary was downright awesome. We ate there for a dinner in early April in 08 and pretty much had the place to ourselves. Kind of like how CHH in MK is a nice retreat.

Ok, so I can't remember the meal. I probably had the curry. But I DO remember the fam smiling. And for some reason I remember the restrooms :rotfl: Can you see the Mickey Sorceror hat from there? I think we sat at the back table and I could see it.
