:welcome:

Hi everyone. This is my first ever trip report. Let me introduce myself. I am Barbara or (Barbie) 29, Shane 34, Trevor 7, and Lexi 6. We live on the Mississippi Gulf Coast... a few blocks from the Gulf.. no oil yet, but its coming.:mad::mad::mad:

This was our 3rd trip to Disney World in three years!! The Disney bug has definitely hit us!! haha.. For this trip we decided to stay at Port Orleans Riverside. There is things that I liked and disliked about this resort. We always go on the last day of school May 21st or 22nd. I am a teacher. This year seemed more crowded than usual but not bad!!:donald:

Some likes: food court, fantastic pool and slide for the kiddos, boat ride to Downtown Disney, and Piano Bob!!! He is AWESOME~!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup2

Some dislikes: its such a BIG resort, and the busses. One night they stopped at the French Quarter first and we accidentally got off there.:rotfl: It was midnight, dark, and we were exhausted!!

On day 1 we stayed at Quality suites on Palm Parkway. I got a killer deal of $50 a night. We really liked this hotel. Close to Disney, free good breakfast, and right by the big outlet mall!! We will stay here again for Universal. We also ended our Disney stay here. So much more room than POR!!

Sounds like a great trip! Wow there's a lot of space in that off-site hotel room! It's amazing how all of us are willing to pay so much more for such a smaller space-- but there's just something about staying on Disney property that you can't drag yourself away from! Glad you had a good trip.

You are so right!! Just all the amenities of POR make it awesome. We have stayed at Pop and All star Sports too. I really like Pop!! We do the QSDP or the reg. one, so have to stay on Disney property.

Yes, we're trying a dining plan for the first time this trip so we have to stay on Disney property too. Not that we ever wouldn't! :rotfl2:

I'm going to try subbing to this report, which I've never done before, so we'll see if it works. DH and I love the South and try to do a mini-tour every time we go to DW. But we've never stayed at or even visited POR, so I'm looking forward to hearing more about the resort.

I'll be staying in FQ in July! Would love to hear more about your trip and POR!!!

:goodvibes

Soo.. I have some readers!!!:cool1: I was so worried that I wouldn't!!lol

One of my favorite things to do at Port Orleans Riverside is to take the boat ride to Downtown Disney. We do the QSDP and I love love love Wolfgang Pucks. We probably took the boat 4 or 5 times. When you look like its gonna be a long wait, it really isn't. After 4:00 the boats come around every 10 minutes so its much faster! One night we went to Downtown Disney at about 7:00 to eat and ended up staying there. DH and I had some drinks and the kiddos danced the night away.. till midnight. It was a BLAST!!!:thumbsup2
Hope that doesn't look bad!! hahaha..

They have music all over and people on stilts. The kids got to be involved with the action, which was great!! Boat ride is super relaxing!!

This fantastic guy named Andre put together a fabulous webpage called portorleans.org. He is always very up-to-date on information. I use a lot of his pics for my background on my computer at work; I am daydreaming about my next trip to POR.

I LOVE:lovestruc your pics!! We stayed at POFQ last September and loved it! The boat ride sealed the deal for me. I'm also interested in your off-site hotel. We are doing a split stay in May (4 or 5 nights off-site and 6 on-site) to force us to go to Seaworld and this looked awesome!

I agree!! portorleans.org is a great website! I really like POR but next time, we would not stay there! The French Quarter caught my attention. I love Bourban St. I am going in 2 weeks for my friends bach. party all weekend. Makes me crazy waiting to go!!lol

Next time, we are talking about a monorail resort or even Wilderness Lodge. We ate there 2 years ago, and it was so nice. We may skip a year or 2, to save and take a diff. vacation next year. Bahamas, Mexico.. so maybe I am dreaming.. not sure!! Don't get me wrong.. POR is super pretty, and the food court has the BEST pasta and Salads.. to die for!!!!!!!

But I am a girl that likes change. I wanna stay in all the resorts before I die. I really would love DVC... but we would not spend that kinda money in this economy. One of the best things to us is the pool slide at Ole Man Island!! We all went down that slide alot!! It is super fast and winding.. Really Fun!!!:woohoo:

Thank you. DH bought me a Nikon SLR so I was picture happy for this trip. I didn't even do Photopass this time. You couldn't go wrong with Quality Suites! Several families were doing the stay b/f and after the resort, and really liked it too!! The location is really good. Right outside the Disney property. I got my deal off of Hotwire.com and use betterbidding.com to find out what hotel it is before buying. I do this everywhere we go. Saves alot of $$$$$$$$$$

We almost stayed at POR with the free dining.

But swithced to WL after the 40% came out. We are thinking of adding the dining plan we have always done the RP. But there is only a couple of adr's we want to do this time. Did you pefer the QSDP to the RDP ?

Yes, we most def. prefer the QSDP over the real dining plan. We are a more go with the flow family. I don't like having to work around a whole bunch of ADR'S. Also, tipping comes into play for us. You really fork out lots of $$ if you use the RDP. I am heading to wal-mart, when I get back I will post all about QSDP. I have some yummy pics of a few of our meals!
