Lily and I have thrush. I think the pain is worse than giving birth was. I'm mad that I didn't realize it sooner, because I've had the pain for a few days, but i thought she just bit me or something. I woke up with a bright red nip. It also explains why Lily has been soo cranky the last couple of days. We thought it was teething. Poor thing.

Anyone had it? How long did it take for the pain to go away?

My older boy and I had thrush, it was so horrible, but his doctor gave us oral antibiotic drops and told me to put some on me and in his mouth and it went away pretty quickly, but I know how bad it can hurt!! I hope it goes away soon!! Sadly I cannot remember the name of the meds. It was over 6 years ago!!!

I've nursed all my kids at Disney at one time or another. My oldest was only nursed in private since he wasn't discrete by that age. (He was 3 years and 3.5 yearson two nursing trips). DD went as a nusling at 2 months old and 9 months old. (She only nursed at night on our last trip at almost 4 years). And my third was 11 months on his first and only trip so far as a nursling. Disney World is very easy to nurse in - plus when you have that child who lets out a scream, everyone around you is relieved when you start nursing and the child is magically quiet!

cereline - I wear normal bras and just pull up from the bottom. Just make sure they're not underwire and it's quite easy. I'm also small chested and found this so much easier. Also, since I don't wear nursing shirts, it's one natural step to pull both shirt and bra up from the bottom. Nothing shows and baby gets to nurse ASAP. I've been nursing 1-2 kids at a time for over 7 years now and only flashed one - and it was the one time I used a cover! (I hadn't realized it had fallen).

harleyquinn- I used Gentian Violet to cure my thrush and it worked within a day. But it's easy to get re-infected so make sure you washed your bras, towels, cloth nursing pads, etc in hot soapy water. Nystatin rarely works. Diflucan works much better than Nystatin. But Gentian violet works great and is cheap.

Thanks everyone! We have been on the meds all weekend and today is my first pain free day. I know I still have to be careful, but it feels so good to be back to normal. I'm just so glad I got the meds before the weekend or I would have done the Gentian Violet for sure!

I love my nursing bras from JC Penny. They don't have an underwire, but offer great support! DS is 14 months and they are still going strong!

We leave tomorrow and I am sooo excited. I am hoping that he wants to nurse on take-off and landing.

YES!! It can be awful! My breast feels your pain!

I know you said you already started meds so this info may not be needed - but I used gentian violet. I would just use a q-tip to dab it in baby's mouth then let her latch on to apply to my nipples. Yes, she had a bright purple mouth and I had bright purple nipples for a few days but it was worth it for the relief!

You can get gentian violet at the drug store (it was only like $3) only a small amount was needed and it worked fast. I know some people worry about thrush and mouth cancer, but the amount actually used is such a small amount - not enough to cause cancer. You would have to use a huge amount to be concerned with causing cancer.

I am not saying that I would use this instead of meds from doctor, but I kept it around to use when I couldn't get to the doctor. (these things always popped up on Friday night!) Just thought I would pass on the info - hope this passes fast! ~ Melissa

Katie did. Of course, she is up for nursing anytime and anywhere. I can honestly now say there is no where in WDW that I wouldn't nurse! I never stepped foot in a babycare center. She nursed where ever we happened to be at the time.

It was a great trip. It would have been better if it was just me and my kids, but we made it through. By the last few days, we were separating from my sister and nephew pretty much all of the time. My older kids (12 and 10) are a lot of help, and don't whine nearly as much as my sister about helping with the baby!

I told the kids that from now on, if someone wants to come with us, they will get their own rooms and a copy of our plans. Then they can join us or not, but we won't wait for them! We made rope drop ONE day of the 8 day trip-that is not my kind of vacation!

hello again. I caught up with the thread and love reading your stories and experiences.

One of my fave stories was we were at one of the kid's ballgames. We ran into another set of parents that are friendly acquaintances. They are not "go out together friends" but they are def friends you would talk to for several min when you see them. I am an RN in my real life. At the time my daughter was just hitting the year mark. The man asked me "so are you still nursing?" I was surprised thinking "wow, this guy is a BF proponent, and I had no idea?!?!" I very proudly said "yes, she is still nursing a couple times per day." Well, he meant was I working as a nurse And, you should have seen his face. Very funny, innocent moment... you gotta know this guy. He is a jokester, always has the last word, and I made him speechless for a moment anyway.

Question for the moms that use the baby carriers. I am really considering this over the summer. I have kids active in 4H, and I know I will be spending several days 2 diff. weeks at fairs. THen there is the WDW trip, so I am thinking may be I can learn to use a carrier. Question is ... my DD (almost 9 mo) usually nurses in the sideways reclined position. How do you manage this in the carriers? I cannot imagine her nursing facing me straight on.... does not sound comfy. I just can't get the visual of how the carrier works for an older baby that is not in the sideways sling position.

Mommy Poppins... started reading your TR.....I love your style. I come from a similar level of "madness" - this baby makes 5 kiddos for us to track around (oldest is 17 y.o. down to 9 month old). I was one that needed that 3-4 year break between babes which made me a pretty old mommy in the delivery room.

Also, I nursed in a side sitting position in the ergo. Not how you are supposed to wear it, but if you are just doing it while nursing it's better than having no baby carrier at all. Just can't take your hands off baby. If you want I can take a picture and show you. It's kinda awkward to nurse with the baby vertical, not the most comfortable because like my baby she turns her head sideways to lay it on my chest and drags my breast with her. lol.

I didn't try to nurse while she was in the Ergo. I would slide the straps off my shoulders first. But we nurse pretty much any position. Katie is a contortionist when it comes to getting what she wants! She liked showing off for my sister-seems like she knew that it was making my sister uncomfortable, so she kept trying to do her stand up and nurse upside move.

Hi. Thanks for the invite. I'm Stephanie and I am techie challenged. After I finish this post, I'm going to try and figure out again how to update my sig line to update ages of children.

As you can see, I'm the mother of 7 and have breastfed the last 6. Feel free to ask me any questions as I have friends who are LLL leaders. I try and discreetly feed my little ones and keep us comfy as well as those around us comfy, or at least as much as I can. This last child was a challenging situation because she had open heart surgery when she was a day old. I had to pump for the first time and use bottles which was a nightmare. She was barely gaining weight and it was frustrating for both of us and exhausting. Her cardiologist is THE BEST (in Knoxville, TN) and she suggested we try just breastfeeding and see how she did. She completely THRIVED and did so much better. The only other time I had used bottles was with our baby goats and that lasted less than 48 hrs because that is a lot of work!

Bras - I haven't had the luxurty to try many but I like the ones from Motherhood Maternity and I clip the seams on the side to remove the hard plastic support as I think they are very uncomfortable.

Geneva will be going to Disney for the first time the week after Thanksgiving. Any tips for a large family, feel free to pass along. We are only going one day with our GAD passes and then we'll go to the VMCP one night. Can't wait!

Better run. Guests coming this weekend and last weekend of soccer! 5 children in 4 age groups has made for a very interesting season, next year there will be 5 age groups.

I have a question about how often your babies nurse. My DS is 9 months and has been eating purees for about 3 months now. Here is our current schedule: DS nurses when he wakes, eats breakfast about an hour later, nurses around 11:00, eats lunch after his nap, nurses around 3:00, eats dinner between 5 and 6:00 and nurses at bedtime. I feel like I spend my day feeding this baby! I don't remember my older kids needing their milk separate from their solids, is this common? I nursed my older kids, but always supplemented with formula. I have not needed to supplement this time, but he just seems to need to be eating something constantly!

Tips for large families:
1. Be aggressive about keeping your family together. You will find that others will always be pushing their way in and separate you. Especially with the parking lot trams. I've had to let my little one sit with a stranger before(because they can't be on the end of the tram) because people pushed their way between my family and we all got separated from my DH. He actually had to wait for the next tram.
2. Have the little ones wait at a table for lunch while other people go and order the food. We tried to do it the DIS approved way our first night and all go together to order our food and then to a table. We ended up spilling salad dressing all over the floor and almost divorcing. After that I took the little kids to sit and DH took the big boys to get food.
3. You will actually be very surprised that you won't feel like a big freak family at Disney. There are a TON of big families that go to Disney now. We saw so many people with 4+ children. It was cool.

We had a great time and it wasn't any more difficult than taking our family anywhere else. Have fun!

Ellie is almost 10 months and she eats stage 2 baby food(only because we get it free) and some(she only has 2 teeth) table food. She nurses when she first wakes up, about an hour after that, after her nap, after lunch, before her nap, after her nap, after dinner and before bed. Sometimes less, sometimes more. That has been the norm for all my kids. She drinks water from a sippy cup in between times.

MommyPoppins thank you for the photos. What I now wonder is are you supplying her from over the top of your tank or what is her access with the carrier on? I don't know if she could get to me from the top of my shirt.... I am just uh, really rather WELL endowed right now. I am wearing looser tee shirts right now to kind of minimize the look. I am afraid to wear tanks because I feel all bo ob-ish in them. I don't know if I could easily do it over the top, but then to pull up my shirt inside the carrier.... just seems like a cluttered situation.

If I get one of these contraptions I will need to practice before "coming out" The first outings with a carrier will be at our county fair. We show cattle and hogs. I have already been questioned by SEVERAL people how long I plan to nurse or if I am planning to wean her soon. I have gotten some funny looks when I tell them it is up to her how long I nurse her. If I am NIP while using a carrier I will try to minimize the shock effect to my small town acquaintances by showing as little of me as possible.

belle&beast I feel the same as you with my almost 9 month old. She nurses when getting up, before & after morning nap, before and after afternoon sleep, early evening and before bed. She is very distracted by the world around her (4 sibs) so she doesn't always fill herself up. I consider her a reverse cycler. She nurses hard still around 2 a.m. and then again around 5:30a.m. Part of her thing is her aversion to most baby food. I can usually get her to eat the boxed rice cereal early in the day then mid evening. She likes the milder fruits and only 2-3 diff vegetables. None of the baby food meals appeal to her - its all just a big joke as most of them end up in the dog's dish. I have just started to give her some solids from the table. But it has been really hard with her. My doc says all babes are diff and to let her dictate the schedule as long as she stays hydrated, continues weight gain and gets some adequate iron
