I had planned an early AK breakfast because that would mean that I could collect the first fastpasses for Everest at 9 am; and shortly thereafter, collect fastpasses for Kali. Then the family would be set for the day! We would hit the Safari first and then decide when to use the fast passes.
So during breakfast and shortly before 9 am, I rushed off to Everest to collect some fastpasses. I collected the fastpasses and headed back to the family. Return time was for after 9.30 am and my plan for the day was so far working out.
On the way back, I suddenly realized that I was a lot sicker than I had thought because I seriously ran out of breath! I had to stop halfway and take a rest because the world was spinning around me.
But hey, I had come all this way and still didn’t want to admit that I was sick.
I guess I must have looked sick because DH knew something was wrong when I got back to the table. And after finding out what had happened, DH took over the fastpass duties for the day
Yes, I know a prince when I see one…
We left Tusker House shortly after and headed over for our 2 week safari. We got on our vehicle within 5 minutes and made our way through the savannah. I sat on the right hand side; DH sat on the left hand side. AND he had the camera! For those of you who have been on the safari, we all know that the left side is the best side to sit.
Our photos are sadly lacking because he spent all his time admiring the animals instead of snapping them….but I’m glad he had a great time.
We did come across a strange animal and just had to take a photo. No one is going to believe us if we tell them that we saw an 8 legged, double necked creature with a long tongue.
I’m getting the feeling that there are real aliens in Orlando…. Aren’t Ostriches meant to have 2 legs?
And then those pesky poachers interrupted our 2-week safari! After 5 years, you would have thought that someone in Disney would have caught them by now!
By this time, DH rushed off to collect Kali fast passes, with a return time after 11.30 am and our day was now set.
We then went in search of the mother and baby gorilla. Sadly, we didn’t see them but I think daddy gorilla has probably had enough of the 3-hourly feed session. Poor guy; he seemed tired to me.
And I just love the colours on this creature!
The kids discovered the Kids Discovery Club and we had a great educational tool for them! So, our next stop was Rafiki’s Planet Watch.
Where we met the man himself! Sadly, I couldn’t exactly see eye to eye with him…and he’s really too old for me anyway.
DH is always a sucker for a pretty face….and insisted that we include StepMother in the picture. He thought that Pocohantas and I didn’t do too badly compared to the witch!
And JC was there as well! Pity he didn’t like me singing about stars! Maybe it was the way I sang it….
In all my Disney trips, this is the first time that I’ve met Jiminy! And I’ve still got stars in my eyes!
It was then time to go ‘home’ to Asia and conquer Everest!
I added a couple more photos of the tree to my collection. I like the back of the tree better.
We then bumped into another tree and it was a ‘DeVine’ experience.
For me, Asia always feels like ‘home’. The sights and sounds take me back to my childhood and I spent a bit of time just taking in everything (and shopping)!
5 years ago, we saw the skeleton of this ride being built and after one ride, this is now officially my favourite ride in all of WDW. And I never would have believed that I would find anything I liked better than Soarin’.
DS and I ate at the Yak and Yeti Counter Service. The menu had changed compared to that on AllEars and they no longer offered the shrimp lo-mein. So, the vegetarian DH had to go seek his lunch elsewhere (at Pizzafari). Unfortunately, this means no food porn for lunch…as the camera was with DH.
I ordered the Honey Chicken with rice and DS settled on the Chicken bites. There sure was a lot of honey with the chicken and it was way too sweet for me. DS enjoyed his Chicken bites. Given the hot and humid conditions, dessert was the Frozen Lemonade.
We then hit the Kali water rapids and it was a great way to cool off. The extended family wanted to go see FOTLK and I was keen to see Nemo. We enjoyed FOTLK in our last visit and we’ve also seen the stage musical. We’ve never seen Nemo; so we parted company.
Nemo was just a wonderful colourful spectacle. I definitely prefer FOTLK but Nemo is a great show, nevertheless. I didn’t take any shots and now wish that I had!
I was keen to really go back in time and we spent some time going hunting for dinosaurs. Surprisingly, no queue and we walked straight on.
Still a great ride; but the boys didn’t dig it at all!
We then had time to go on the Primeval Whirl twice. The queue wasn't too bad here either.
And we finished the day at AK with those yummy Mickey Icecreams! We scoffed them down so fast that we forgot to take a picture!
We decided to go back to the POR foodcourt for dinner. It was our last night at this resort and we were due to transfer across to BCV the next day.
DS wanted to have more pasta and ended up with a spaghetti marinara. This is the Kids serve.
Mr Vegetarian decided to try a make your own salad and the serving was HUGE! And the salad was really delicious.
I decided to go with the surprisingly succulent and moist Roast Turkey and trimmings.
My first serving of this meal ended up on the floor of the foodcourt in front of the drinks fridge and over my legs and feet. I certainly hope that the floor enjoyed the meal. I know my legs and feet enjoyed the additional moisturizing that night. And my shoes still smell of gravy!
And magical Disney CM service – they were so good to me and cleaned up the mess without any fuss; and got me an identical replacement meal without any additional cost.
For those eagle-eyed among you that noticed, yes – dessert was fruit; which I insisted we all got that night.
And there was a reason why I *made* DS and DH eat fruit when they were eager for icecream fudge and hot apple pie….
