I got back about two weeks ago from a trip that came up a little unexpectedly.

Let me explain.

My Mom and I work together. It's a family business started in 1949 by my grandfather that now is run by my Mother and my 3 Uncles. My Mom is my boss and we are both big Disney fans, so when we saw that the “users group” for the Accounting Software that our company uses was having a conference in Orlando, FL, we got to thinking.....:scratchin

After about 1/2 a second.....we decided that it might be kind of nice to attend it….you know….:rolleyes1 just for the benefit of the company, of course....:rolleyes1

If we happened to want to go on over to Disney World and have a meal or something, well, that wouldn't be a bad thing now would it???

So, if you couldn't tell from my trip report title in my signature, we were just there in February, but hey…this is for work, right?

TOOOOTTTTAAALLLLYYYY DIFFERENT!!! :thumbsup2

A little background on our history with Disney. My Mom has been a fan since the beginning, having attended opening year with my brother who was not even 1 at the time. She continued to go back with my Dad a few more times while we were little, since my Dad’s parents didn’t live too far from Orlando. Then we returned during the mid 1980’s when she had remarried to my step-dad and we all took a big family trip to FL! (We had some very hip 1980’s pictures that we are oh-so-fond of!!)

More recently, we traveled together in 2002 with my sister and her family (my oldest son was just 1 at the time), then back again with 12 of us in 2006 (where we all came down with the stomach bug). Then in 2007 we took the big Thanksgiving week with 16 trip…otherwise known as “herding cats”(see trip report link below). Since that trip, we have been back in October of 2008 when we celebrated my youngest daughter’s 4th birthday and went to the MNNSHP (trip report link below), and then again in February of this year (very slow-moving trip report link in my siggie)!

Phew.

That sounds like a lot when I write it all out! My Mom has also been down twice alone with my step-dad (once back in 1995 to celebrate 10 years of marriage…awww…and then just a little over a month ago when they went to the Poly and stayed Theme park view – Club level and spent a lot of time at the Flower & Garden Festival. I have also been a couple of times without my Mom – once on a girls trip in Dec of 2008 (woo-hoo) and then again in May of 2009 with just my husband (first time at the Poly). Ok. Got all that???

What's funny is between joining us in February, going in April for F&G, and this trip…..my Mom has now gone to Disney 3 times in 4 months this year!! And she calls ME the Disney nut??? :rotfl2:

Since I’m a big fan of reports with pictures, here are a few pics of Mom and I on our trips to Disney. Some of them are from much earlier days at the World, and some of them are kind of scary….ahem….80’s styles mixed with pre-teen and teen awkwardness = not the best outcome::scared1:

(The group in 2006 – Mom is next to my BIL who is standing; I’m on the right holding Emily. Not the best picture, but the only picture that all 12 of us are in from that trip since we all got sick at one point or another! One of those times being literally right AFTER this picture was taken – my little one on the end in green (good color choice).

I seriously could go on and on, but I will stop now. It’s fun looking at past trips though!

So, the conference was for May 16 – 19th and we made the decision to make the trip only around the 2nd week of April, I believe. Yikes! With only a month to plan something, my head was spinning…. First off…where are we going to stay on this lovely “work” trip???

Thanks for reading!!

Thanks for reading! It is neat to look at those old pictures and see things that are not there anymore - like all those TREES near the castle! I have more, but seriously, those 80's shots are painful!!:scared1:

Yay! Glad you came over, Katie! Yeah, my Mom loves to go to Disney but she doesn't do much in the planning department. She leaves that to me! She is very go with the flow and really amazing! She's a great boss and an even better Mom!!

That is how Jill and I do it. I let her do the planning, and I am happy to just be there. We usually choose the meals together - a mix of favorites and new ones - but as for what parks on what days, I couldn't care less.

Since the girls are still small, I have not had the chance to whisk her away for a girls only/grown-ups only trip, but I know when that time comes, she will love it. No strollers to fool with on buses, shopping without having to make sure things aren't finding their way into strollers, scheduling activities around nap times, etc. Just whatever, whenever. :)

I look forward to reading along!

Hi there! This will be the first TR of yours that I have read. I'm excited to get in at the beginning!

Yes, you will both love it! My first kid-free trip was with my girlfriends in December of 2008. We went for a long weekend, did the Christmas party, hit Epcot and the AK and some shopping! It was a blast! It wasn't nearly as hard as I thought it was going to be being at WDW without my kids. :guilty: Different trips are good for different reasons!! :goodvibes

Thanks for coming along! I hope to move this one along a little faster than my family trip reports. Might not be too hard, since for most of the trip, we were only in the parks in the evenings! We'll see!!:rolleyes1
