I will be posting here as often as I remember I need to lose alot of weight. I'm 5' 6" I weigh 275 lbs I would like to lose 100 lbs but I'd be happy at losing any :). My plan is to cut back what I eat, stop when I'm full, not eat just because it tastes good, start walking 1/4 mile each day to start with start slow work my way up 1/4 mile a week unless I feel I can handle more I will post that if I do. I want to work my way to 2 miles in the morning and 2 miles in the afternoon. My goal is the 100 Lbs by August of 2011. If I lose it earlier great if not at least I have a goal :) Wish me Luck!!:wizard:

This sounds like a good, healthy slow approach to weight loss. And, your goal is very attainable. As you start to feel comfortable with the walking, you may add distance quicker than that, but it's a good start! :thumbsup2

Sounds like a reasonable, realistic goal!

You are welcome join our Between the Biggest Loser Summer Challenge. It just started on 5/28 and it's never too late to join a BL challenge. It is a great way to get some accountability and support. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=36638729&postcount=1 You can participate as much or as little as works for you.

Good luck on your journey to good health! :goodvibes

Sounds like a good plan! Start slowly with the walking, increase as you feel you can. And its okay if you have days where you walk longer and the next time you can't go that distance.

Where are you upstate? (upstate means lots of different things to people from other states!)

Thank you everyone. I live in Gabriels NY about 20 minute from Lake Placid. I see you live in Clifton Park area I use to visit there often I have friends in that area. I know what you mean about the upstate thing. I'm way upstate LOL.

Good luck to you! It is so hard to get motivated so hearing you set your mind to a good plan I hope it works out well for you. It is very reasonable to think in terms of long range loss - to Aug. 2011. I am in about the same boat as you

Motivation is the hardest part so baby steps is what I came up with. I figured better start somewhere right :). If youd like to share your story with me you can PM me Id love to hear it.

Another thing I came up with while dining out was to cut portions in half to start with to help the "clean your Plate" state of mind I ask for a to go container at the beginning of my meal now and put half away for the next day, out of site out of mind and best of all off my plate :) Helps me stop when Im full rather than eat because it is there.

Between My friends and family I eat out alot and rather than miss out on the good times I just decided to adjust my meals out accordingly.

This is going to be a long haul but after one week I am at 271, a loss of 4 lbs for my first week. Yay !!:dance3:

CONGRATS ON YOUR 1ST WEEK LOSS!!!! It's so encouraging to see progress!

I am on about my 10th week, DH & I started South Beach diet the day after Easter. We talked about it for about a month (we had to get mentally prepared too) had a lovely stuff your face Easter ham dinner with all the desserts & Easter candy on Easter day but then Monday morning started the very difficult Phase I of South Beach (I hope it's okay to mention the diet by name here, I'm new to the WISHES forum).

Those 2 weeks were really hard but once we were able to start Phase II it has gotten easier. Like you, we are now just watching our portions and starting some excercises. When it came to adding back the carbs we learned what a real serving of whole grain cereal looked like (no more filling the bowl because it could hold it) & would have that with our eggs for bfast, now we eat our lunch with sprouted or whole wheat bread & then the fruits are eaten with lunch and dinner. We always eats lots of proteins, fresh veggies and limited amounts of nuts as snacks.

I am amazed at how I really don't crave the chips/sweets & general junk food we used to gorge ourselves on. We picked SB because it made sense to us about how eating so many processed foods & unbleached or enriched flours was causing too big a sugar surge in our bloodstreams. It seems that once we got that under control, everything became easier.

I am an excellent cook but I've learned to do a better job using olive oil, garlic, onions & lots of spices. DH is doing a better job exercising, he has use of a gym at work but now that it's summer I'm hoping to do some swimming & bicycling.

Do you have a friend or family member that can join you in your efforts? I think that helps a lot with whatever plan you're on.

Wow that sounds like you two are doing great.
Im on a do it yourself plan my family eats what i cook. Im hoping to make it work for me and not deprive myself if I feel I want something.

That is the hardest part is getting out of bed, I know right now its not alot but it sure feels like alot at 6 am LOL. Currently im at 1/4 mile in the am and 1/4 mile in the pm as of Sunday It will be 1/2 mile in the am and 1/4 in the pm. I seem to have a little more energy now that i am taking my vitamins every day too. I set my cell phone alarm for every day and take my vitamin that way i dont forget :)
