Las Vegas Accommodation

Hi All,
We are visiting Las Vegas for 2 nights in September on our way back from our European adventure and would like some suggestions on where to stay. In 2004 we stayed at Circus Circus but would like to stay somewhere nicer (not expensive) and more mid strip.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I've stayed at Treasure Island and got a deal of $60 a night on line.
I've also stayed at Caeser's Palace at a rate of about $90 a night; and also at Excalibur for a rate of $29 a night.

All rates were mid-week stays. Excalibur may be too far the other side of the strip for what you are looking for.

Caeser's and TI would be good to stay in....both are getting a bit older now; compared to the newer hotels. But that may mean that they could be reasonably priced.

I haven't been able to find anything so cheap. There are 4 of us, (2 adults and 2 under 15), and I am surprised that we have to pay for the children ($60extra a night). I've joined up to several hotel websites but their offers haven't been anywhere close to what you have said. We will be staying a Saturday night which is an expensive night and a Sunday.

I had tried to put a ticker with my signature but all I got was the gobblegook code. Any suggestions?

I booked Las Vegas accom for November last year on Hotwire and got MGM for $64 per night for 4 nights.

You are flying a little blind but if you head over to the betterbidding.com site you can sometimes find out what hotel is what by entering in the hotel amenities there

We stayed at the excalibur and loved it.

We stayed at the Venetian. Pure opulance . Loved it.

We stayed at the Venetian Hotel (Dec 2006), managed to get a good rate on the Net. Rooms are large and comfortable and good position on the Strip.

Mid strip "cheaper" hotels are probably restricted to Bally's and the Flamingo. To go cheap but still with some comforts, stay at the south end- Luxor, Excalibur or Hooters (yes even with young kids- it's not Kings cross in Vegas).

We are staying at the Luxor from 1-8 August for $502 inc all taxes and resort fees. We are also staying for 2 nights 8-10 Sep (after WDW) at the Excalibur for $36 per night inc taxes and charges.

The Saturday night charge will ensure that you won't get ultra cheap accommodation at the Circus Circus rate ANYWHERE on the strip.

I can't in good faith advise Flamingo.
Many years ago we stayed there and liked it. this is when it was a Hilton. (It wasn't always a hilton...but when it was a Hilton it was good.)
Last time we went it was awful. It took at least 5 goes to get a half decent room. The first was dingy and dark and even the 'good' one wreaked of cigarette smoke. They did put and air cleaner on which helped but it still wasn't great....and the hassle was ridiculous.

We did have a view of the Bellagio fountains in the room we ended up in (which was nice since I spent most of my time in there due to gastro) but customer service is not their strong point.

I WOULD highly recommend the Venetian though. Soon after we got back I joined their newsletter and they have had some GREAT deals. If you want to see a show (Phantom or Blue Group) they have had really amazing packages. and the rooms are a great layout for families.
[I would HIGHLY recommend Phantom. It IS different to the broadway production. Much more like the movie...but it was GREAT]

Friday and Saturday nights are expensive in Vegas. One option could be timeshares, they tend to be the same price all week and usually bigger.
The Marriott Grand Chateau is located between MGM and Planet Hollywood, opposite City Center, and is great, no casino downstairs and non-smoking. If you're being charged $60 for the kids, you may as well get somewhere with your own kitchen and washing machine..... You could get a studio (just like a hotel room) 1bedroom villa or 2 bedroom. Or if you know anyone with an Interval International membership (people that own Accor Vacations will probably be the easiest to find) Marriott Grand Chateau is often available for rental through them.
'Mid-strip' has actually moved further south than it used to be due to City Center finally being open.

We have stayed at MGM once, and twice at the Luxor.

Anyway here are some examples for September: -
Marriott Grand Chateau - Sep 17 - Sep 24 studio up to 4 for $303.00.

Those examples are II Getaway and in Australian dollars, though they also need the guest cert so add another $40, not that much difference than renting 2 nights directly off Marriott, but if they have a Gold II member that evens it out. If they are having to pay $60US for the 2 kids plus an expensive rate for the Saturday night at a casino even if they can get the Sunday cheap, $303AU isn't much more even if it is just for used for 2 nights.
I've stayed, Excalibur, Mandalay Bay, Marriott Grand Chateau, Wynn, Jockey Club, I'd recommend Grand Chateau over any of them, particularly with kids and some of the mini-bar displays charging you as soon as the item is picked up, I'd hate to have kids in a room like that.... (that would be the Wynn...)

The Gold II short break exchange might also be available, depends on how much someone would charge for the exchange, though they are a minimum of 3 nights (?? I think ??), but that would probably work better with not having to worry about arrival time....

Sunday to Thursday you can get ridiculously cheap accommodation in Vegas, particularly with the 'current economic climate', Friday and Saturday, the CEC is hardly a factor and rates go up dramatically, Nov09 Excalibur was $19 per night Sun-Thurs and $150 per night Fri-Sat.

Might be worth finding out if you know anyone with access to Interval International, or RCI, or any other timeshare exchange....
Is that 5, 2 adults and 3 kids, or is it more adults?

I am going to sign up for some more hotel newsletters to see what they can offer. Alot of the hotels sting you with a resort fee!
I realise that Saturday nights would be a premium but we are flying in after our cruise and have limited time available as we are on our way home from being away for 6 weeks.

Sometimes purchasing here (eg Best Flights) can be a lot cheaper because not so many taxes and resort fees are added (or they're included) Quads at Excalibur are 20% off on Best Flights at the moment, depending on date figures are like $34AU Sun, $119AU for Sat, plus $40AU per night for quad rather than twin.....

Which Saturday are you there and what time do you arrive?
