Welcome to my TR for May 16 - 22, 2010

The Fam - DH, Me and DS (10)
The Place - Animal Kingdom Lodge - Jambo House

** Please note this is a work in progress............... I will add pics soon!!!

We've been planning this trip for over 2 1/2 years, DH is a nuclear engineer and has been in school to get his license - so, for 16 months - while he was "studying" - I was planning this trip!!! We were SO glad when he was done - and for Christmas, he surprised me with DVC at AKL. WHOOOP WHOOOP - He def. deserved it - it was a LONG, Hard, Stressful time for us - (it's NOT an easy class) and when it was over, we needed a vacation!!!

So, with my NEW DVC status - I booked a 1 BR - Sav. View at AKL - Jambo House. We applied to do a GAD volunteer opportunity and started saving for "souvies". We did the project linus blankets - which were SO much fun - so we got our GAD vouchers (which we applied to our AP's).

On Sat. May 15th, we packed up the car and headed to Florida.......... it was a pretty uneventful drive - just a long 12 hours. We got to our relatives house and went to dinner - then had only 1 more sleep until we finally got to see our Villa!!!!

On Sun. we got up early and headed to the lodge............ when we pulled up, it was amazing, being back at AKL - ahhhhh, if you've ever been there, then you know what I mean. The belle hop was was welcoming us back home and unloading the car............ we walked into the lobby and I was so amazingly happy............ the gorgeous lobby, the fantastic smells, the atmosphere........... I was HOME and it was breathtaking!!!

So, we got in line to check in and it went very quickly - there were TONS of people checking out, which we thought was a "good" sign.......... anyway, we got checked in, our room wasn't ready, so, they held our luggage for us. We decided to head to DTD to let DS go to the Lego Store............ the bus to DTD was empty - we were the only ones on............. so, again, we were thinking this was a good sign. DTD however, was packed!!! I've never seen so many people there.......... we made our way to the Lego store and DS has to see EVERY single thing in there, at least 20 times over............ yep, we were there for a loooooooooooooooooong time!!! LOL He decided on several things, which we had sent to the lodge. As our room wasn't ready, we couldn't give them a room number, so they called and viola - got a room number......... he told us what it was, but, told us NOT to tell.............. LOL So, finally, we headed over to the T-Rex Cafe, it was packed and we couldn't get in for lunch any time soon, so, we decided to just head back to the lodge - we ate lunch at Mara and then as we were finishing up, got a text that our room was ready - YAY!!!!

I was dying to see our Villa!!! WOW - I was VERY impressed, it was beautiful. It was amazing to finally see it!!! We were in room 5453 on the Uzima Savanna. ( I didn't care for our view.......... but, it was a beautiful room.) The kitchen was very nice and fully stocked with everything, the living room was spacious and very nicely decorated, the art on the walls was beautiful and I loved the table, the way it was carved. The bedroom with the king bed was very nice and the bathroom was also very big - I especially liked how deep the tub was - and the washer and dryer were great! We were extremely well supplied, I thought we'd need to buy more towels or soap or things, but we didn't need too at all. And on day 4 our mousekeeper came and did replenish everything again. It was very nice. I loved loved loved the Villa...... it was amazing. We had a huge very long balcony - 4 chairs and 2 tables - it was nice, but our view was VERY lacking - we saw very few animals all week and basically it was only 1 giraffe and only some of the time, we did have one day when we saw 4 at once. I just didn't like that Savanna. Otherwise, the room was perfect. DS said the sleeper sofa was comfy!! :)

So, we start to unpack a little bit............ and then there was a knock at the door????? Hummmmm - DH went to the door and it was a lovely castmember who had a HUGE HUGE gift basket for DS - HOLY COW - it was amazing, FULL of Star Wars stuff.............. it was from (Peggy) Feralpeg............. she so graciously and kindly sprinkled him with pixie dust!!! It was an INCREDIBLE basket and SO sweet of her to do. (I had talked with her 2 days before we were to leave on a thread about the love bugs and mentioned that I wished she was still doing her baskets - to which she let me know that she WAS doing them again (WHO KNEW???) - but, with such short notice, I didn't have time to order anything - so, she incredibly decided to surprise us with an amazing gift - I cannot Thank her enough for her generous heart - and I will say this, if anyone needs a basket or gift - Please consider using her - she is an amazing, beautiful, warm hearted, lovely lady!!!) DS was shocked, he couldn't believe this gift - it was stuffed full of star wars goodies, a jedi mickey, darth, r2d2 spinner and other things..... it was great! He had NO clue it was Star Wars Weekend the following weekend and I had asked a DISigner friend DOM to create an invite for him - so, we gave that to him and he was just blown away!!!! It was the BEST!!! I loved how surprised and happy he was!!! ( Thank You so much Peggy and Dom).

This last one if for you KIM!!!! :)

Continuing on with day 1.............. yep, we are still on day 1............ we needed to get our AP's, so we headed over to the Magic Kingdom, easier said than done, apparently there was a marathon going on, so all the roads were diverted one way or the other, it took a LONG time to get to MK - finally we got our AP's - whew!!! We had dinner reservations at Teppan Edo, so we headed to Epcot - DS wanted to ride Test Track, so we did that, it was a fairly long wait - then went to dinner, but not before stopping in Germany for a stein of Spaten. Teppan Edo was good, our chef was great - something new to us was that they serve Udon noodles now - which we really liked - I loved the iced green tea. DS was not feeling good at all, so we headed back to the lodge. I think all the running around and heat was a long day for him! (Maybe he just wanted to get back to his Legos???!!!) ;)

We did do the Dining Plan - so I wont list prices, only what we ordered - since DS is 10 - he ordered from the adult menu!

DH - Asakusa - Steak and Shrimp - Ginger Cake - Coke
Me - Asakusa - Steak and Shrimp - Ginger Cake - Green Iced Tea
DS - Ebi - Shrimp - Ginger Cake - Green Iced Tea

We got the California Roll Sushi App. as well - it was all delicious!

Day 2 - coming up

Great Pics, can not wait to read more!:)

Wendy, Thank you for great report so far. Your pictures are wonderful and the villa is like WOW!!!!:cloud9::love::cloud9:

I had to check out your room location on my AKL map, goodness, those were some of the best views the last time we were there. It was where they had the baby giraffe and female herd. So sorry the animals were not there. On our last visit we were on the Sunset Sanvannah concierge. Not a great view and hardly any animals. For those of us who are animal people it is a disappointment. When the weather is beautiful and you have a "fantastic balcony you want animals.

Looking forward to reading all about everything, really enjoying it. :thumbsup2
