My DH, DD, and I will be going to Jacksonville for a few nights (hubby has business there). We've never been there and are looking for advice on a clean, safe, and inexpensive hotel. We would like to be reasonably close to the beach (within 30 minutes or so) and would like to be close to the shopping area on Commerce Dr near the hh gregg Regency. Does anyone have any advice? Also, how is the beach there? Hoping to catch a few rays while DH is in his meeting. Thanks!

Ok, first piece of advice. Don't stay near the Regency area, come to think of it, I don't think that there are any hotels there. I would look over in the Town Center area, which is not too far from the Regency area and not far from the beach either. THat area is fairly new and I don't get over there very often. Do a google search for The Town Center, Jacksonville, FL. Hopefully this will help you. If this doesn't help do a Google for the Apple store in Jax, or PF Changs. These are both in the town center and you should be able to find hotels. Again, DO NOT go into the Regency area by yourself or with your daughter at night. THis was a good area at one time, but know not so much. You will be fine during the day, but I wouldn't recommend it so much at night.

Also, the Town Center has a lot of great shopping and restaurants. I really haven't been to our beaches in years and years, we usually go south to St Augustine, but I do know that they have done a lot of work at Jax Beaches, so I am sure they are nice.

Wow, I had no idea about not going to this area alone or with my daughter. I'm so glad I asked on here, and I really appreciate you taking the time to pass along this advice. I'll look up the Town Center area and go from there. Thank you so much!

Not sure if this is an area you would like, but when we cruised in March we stayed at Comfort Suites by the airport. It was inexpensive, clean, and an extra large room. (Slept 6).

Thank you! I'm checking some things online right now, so I'll look into this, too. :)

I don't know anything about the hotels at the airport, I can tell you that they are not convenient at all to the areas that you are talking about. About 40 minutes to the Regency area, and to the beach about an hour. Also our Airport isn't the greatest area, although I do think it has improved.

I sound like I am making Jacksonville out to be a bad place, it isn't, its just that you have hit on a couple of our bad areas. lol

I will check back and see if I can give you any other info based on what other people that have stayed here have to say.

Thank you. I really appreciate that. :) I found an Embassy Suites Baymeadows that's about three miles from the Town Center area. It looks pretty nice. About $99 a night. Not too bad. I might go with it unless I hear some better suggestions.

We've stayed at this Embassy Suites and it was nice. Also stayed at the Amerisuites behind it. That one was nice too, but it could use some updating. It's been 3 years since we've stayed at either place. Baymeadow is easy access to 95 and A9 (I think). Probably 10 minutes to the St. John's Square Town Center and (Where PF Changs, Montana Grill, Target, etc. are) and Costco. About 20-30 minutes to the beach, depending on which section you go to. We used to go down near the big golf course (Saw Grass?).

Great info. :) I'm glad to hear that you liked it. :) I'm leaning toward that one. Thank you. :)

We have stayed at Holiday Inn Bay Meadows , wonderful only about 15mos old. Great staff wonderful rooms. Good places to eat near by. We also stayed at the Marriott near J Turner Butler Blvd. there is a Cracker Barrel near it. It was also very nice. Beach is very close for both these locations. They have a wonderful mall area just north of both of these locations on Town Center Parkway. that is brand spanking new and places to eat. Cheesecake factory, PF Chang's, etc.

La Quinta Inn on Lenoir Ave...haven't stayed there yet, but will be there in a week. It had great reviews on yahoo hotels, hotels.com and one other site I checked. We got a deal too...$37.00 a night!!! Can't wait...seems centrally located as well!

Hi

I was just in Jacksonville for a conference put on by jacksonville community college. We stayed at the Hotel Indigo. It was beautiful and in a great area close to the beach (15 minutes or so) and very close to st john center. It is a new hotel and I think quite reasonable

I would check this one out, this is the best area that has been discussed here. And those time are correct to get to the Town Center and the Beach, and also not too far for your hubby to get to the Regency area for his business conference. It really is a nice area.

I never realized how much I don't know about hotels here, I guess if you live here you really don't need them . lol

LOL! Yeah, I guess you really wouldn't have much use for a hotel living there. :) Thank you so much for your help!

I looked at this one, too, and was debating on it as well. It looks really nice and close to Town Center. Thank you!

That's a great deal on a room. Wish I could get that lucky on a room. How'd you get such a great rate? I'll check this one out, too. Thank you!
