Another practical use of DDP question...

This is a question my dh asked me and I honestly didn't know the answer and couldn't find it in a quick search.

On the DxDP, you currently get 3 meals/day and 2 snacks/day. With those 3 TS meals: you get 1 appetizer, 1 entree and 1 dessert.

Can you get ANY appetizer, ANY entree and ANY dessert? Or are there limitations on the menu that say "Not on DDP"?

For example, the most extreme example I can come up with would be something like the Kitchen Sink at Beaches & Cream. Would that count as a dessert?

Or, does the menu have exclusions because an item under a certain category is priced too high?

Any practical experience you can share would be greatly appreciated.

In general, you can get any single serving appetizer, entree, and dessert. Certain restaurants may allow two guests to order a "for two" item if they use both entitlements for that item (also note, some places don't let you do this, and there are even some reports, including one from yours truly, where a single diner could order a "for two" item).

The "kitchen sink" is most decidedly not a single-serving item.

Check the FAQ stickied at the top of the forum for the very few known exclusions to the meal plans.

OP- An example would be the Chocolate Brownie Sundae at Yak&Yeti. It is a 2 person sundae an requires 2 DDP credits to purchase it. The servers will tell you when you go to order dessert if there are restrictions.

Mostly you can order anything in that category, the expection as pp have stated are if the menu item states for 2, so both parties would have to order that app or dessert, it doesn't happen a lot but some restaurants have an item or 2 like that.
Another example would be at the Cali Grill a few of the sushi dishes are considered entrees & not apps.
But for the most part, you can order anything on the menu in each category.

As a practical matter - you do not get 3 TS meals a day and 2 snacks a day on the deluxe plan.

You get 3 meal credits and 2 snack credits per NIGHT (not per day) you stay at your resort. If you have two people staying 6 nights and 7 days, they'll receive credits based on 6 nights (18 meal credits per person, 36 meal credits total for the length of the reservation). These are not TS credits. They're interchangeable meal credits that can be used for either TS or CS. If you plan to use them all for scheduled 1 TS restaurants you may be able to work it out to 3 meals a day - but then if you want signature restaurants, you have to work with the fact that they cost 2 credits per person per meal.

Sometimes people buy DDP and they are under the impression that they can use it for 3 TS meals a day but don't realize some of the meals cost 2 credits AND their credit totals were figured according to nights, not days. Then they end up with fewer credits than they had meals. Some are also not aware that deluxe credits can be used for CS.

Also if I remember correctly the OP is planning a trip for 2011 - all the information you are seeing here about what is included on the dining plans applies to the 2010 dining plan and may or may not apply for 2011. Disney in the US has not released the 2011 dining plans yet. Based on information that's being given to British guests who are now booking for 2011, at the very least there are indications that they MIGHT cut the desserts.
