i've never seen a gargage sale on a Fri. Agreed Saturday is the best day, but we try to do it back to back days if possible - As we have everything out -Sunday we do get people come by as well..

Garage sales are big around us. EXCEPT not over a holiday weekend. The "norm" here is Friday and Saturday's. You'll see a very few also open on Sundays. Holiday weekends are dead as far as garage sales go for our neck of the woods....
We've had lots of yard sales at my parents house and usually do very well. However, a couple of years ago we had one on Memorial Day weekend and did not do very well at all; probably made less than half of what we usually do.
I agree with everyone else, over the holiday is generally a bad idea, but had to post the regional difference, around here we have one community that has their community sale EVERY year over Memorial Day weekend! It defies everything yard sale... holiday weekend, Fri-Sun, even Mon sometimes! But since it's a community sale, it's busy busy!
I'm in Maine. The last yardsale I had I did a Fri/Sat instead of my typical Sat/Sun and I sold MORE on Friday alone than I normally would in the whole weekend! I am planning a sale sometime soon (NOT over Mem. weekend though - that's a terrible weekend for sales for selling - good for buying since there are so few buyers that weekend) and will definitely do Fri/Sat again this year.
"Don't pick a holiday weekend (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day) to have your sale. You'll generally have a better turnout if its a non-holiday weekend. Exception would be if you live on a road that a lot of tourists will drive by in order to get to the beach. It's really just the holidays where people are known to do a lot of traveling. Holidays like Mother's Day, Father's Day are ok."
No, don't do it!!
We had awful luck with ours. I have since learned the following:
Aside from it being a traveling holiday weekend, it is THE END OF THE MONTH. No money, especially for those who receive government checks. The best weekend to have a sale is at the beginning of the month, when people have fresh $$$$$ to spend.
We go no matter when it is so holidays don't matter to us. If we happen to be traveling we'll go to the ones in the town we're visiting. Except Orlando, we are too busy going to parks
As for the regional thing our big sale days are friday and saturday. I work 2nd shif so we are always out friday morning for the best deals.
