So, I downloaded that new Disney widget and was poking around yesterday and notice that guests can check in online up to 10 days in advance??

Anyone ever do this? What does it do for you?

Thanks,
Ang

I just used it for the first time last week we just got back from WDW this afternoon. I felt that my experience was very inpersonal, we were celebrating our Anniversary while we were there it was yesterday actually and it was noted on our reservation.

The CM that checked us in did not even comment on our anniversary. I had only made a couple of small simple requests (we stayed at POFQ) I asked for third floor corner room. My husband asked the CM if we by chance had a 3rd floor or even corner room all we were told was go find your room and if you don't like it come back. Just the whole overall experince was not the usual Disney Standards. Not sure if it was just the cast member who was waiting on us or what but this was the worst I have ever been treated at check-in at Disney we had been counting down the days for months as this was our first trip without the kids and it put a damper on our excitment.

We are going back in Sept and I have already decided I will check in at the desk when we arrive, just as I had done previously the past 5 years.

On a side note we decided since it was just the two of us this trip we would check out some of the other hotels and as we were walking through Boardwalk yesterday one of the Managers of the hotel wished us a Happy Anniversary and we ended up talking to him for quite a while, he was telling us some interesting stories about Walt and other things about the surrounding hotels. That just really made our day, you could tell he was very much a Disney fan and really loved his job.

We did this on our last trip. It saved us time at actual check in at the hotel. There was a special line just for online check in people and there was no one in that line the day we checked in, while there was a huge line at the other desk. All of our stuff was ready for us, all we had to do was get our packet and put a credit card on file and we were out in less than 10 minutes.

The online check-in is intended as an express check-in with no "hand-holding". When you get to the window you show ID, have a credit card run, get your room keys and packet and that is it.

You cannot make any special requests at that time.

The person there is not supposed to offer anything. If you want anything else, such as asking for a specific location or any questions about tickets, dining, etc., you must use the regular lines.

Ah, well then I guess we won't be doing that. We are celebrating two birthdays, our anniversary, and a first timer. I want our ribbons and hoo-ha! :)

Thanks!

We used it the other day. (we are there now! :cool1:) I walked up to the desk and got my packet in about a minute. At the time we arrived there was no one in the lobby though. The cast member was still really nice as usual. the only difference was everything was already printed out and put together so it still took less time than if I had walked up to the regular check in line.

I'm very suprised to hear that people's special milestones were not acknowledged during express check in. I used it in September. I had mine and DD 1st Visit noted on our trip when I reserved it and made my room request at that time as well. We got there in the morning way before check in time so the Cm didn't know if our request had been met yet, but she did mention our 1st trip. She even gave both me and DD pins and gave DD stickers. We had everything in less then 10 minutes. Our room cards and package were pre-printed and all we had to do was wait for either a text or a call (can't remeber which) telling us our room number and letting us know it was ready while we were touring the park. When we finally made it to our room late that night, all of our request had been met- 2nd floor, close to bus stop, walking distance to DTD. We stayed at Saratoga.
We had a great experience with it and would not hesitate to use it again!

We make our requests on the phone when making the reservation, or call to make the request after making the ressies online, long before checkin, and use the on-line check-in to save time when we get there. LAst week we walked right up to the counter, had our packet and were back out to the car in less than 5 minutes from the time we got out of the car.

Well, how long does it take to check in if you don't do it online? We are arriving late June 5 and staying at another hotel. We have to get up early and go check in at POR to get our keycards and then head to DHS for the SW event. We wanted to be there when they opened, but I don't want to miss out on anything special. It's my DH bday that day...

Everything has already been noted in our reservations...what to do?:confused3
