OH NO!!!! The best yet also possibly worst (if you know what I mean) is closed from the 1st August - the day we get there!!!!!! You know - i've only ever been on it once - it's always been closed whenever we go!!!

I know your pain - its happend to us before. This year it re opens just before we get out there in Oct!

Just broke this news to the missus, she wasn't best pleased as it's her favourite ride!
Long refurb as well, 1/8 - 22/10, although they're not thought to be adding Disney characters apparently

:goodvibes

Just told the clan and they are not too happy:sad1::sad1: as they all loved it and how that song just drove you mad for days....Can't understand two things about it.Why are they closing such a major attraction in my view, at such a busy time as August. We all agree that August is a busy time in the parks and yet they close such an attraction. Its the first time i can remember that such a ride has closed at such a busy time.Yes i know space mountain was closed in August last year but the refurb had started months before and was needed. Its a small world was only closed about 2-3 years ago for a major job and was closed for 6-7 mths or longer i think,so why do they need to close again for so long.:confused3:confused3
I for one and my clan will be very disappointed its closed when we are there in August. Also can't understand why they didn't wait to do it when Fanastyland refurb was well on the way to being finished..

We still haven't done It's A Small World Disneyland CA. Closed for refurb both times we have been.
This is great news for Matt, we drag him on numerous times every visit, he will love a holiday without being forced on:rotfl2:

My fondest memory during our last visit (the only time its been open when weve been) is when the music stopped and everyone in our boat started singing it anyway!!!

Looks like MK will be quite dissapointing - all the refurb in Fantasy Land and now Small World closed......

I'm so glad we picked to go when we did, looks like we're in before all the closures in the summer.

I can't understand all these closures especially in the peak summer season, but they must have their reasons

I like this one :sad2: Also I thing I read somewhere that toy story mania is closed for part of august - will not be impressed if when we are there are my nephew is excited about this one

Luckily TSM doesn't shut til later in august (well, luckily for us), 15/8 til 5/9 it seems

:goodvibes

oh that is good for us, we get two weeks to visit - where is the link to show which ones are closed/refubished when you are there please.

gutted about this. I was looking forward to subjecting my parents for the first time to the pain of this ride, and singing the tune at least once a day so it would be in their heads for the whole of the 3wks we are away!!

Im gutted, loved that ride in DLRP and it was one you could always get on with very little queueing if the park was busy

Not good about TSM either, we go on 11th so not much time to get on that

Pretty rubbish really

For folks asking about why August and why so long, I'm 95% sure that this is all part of the bigger Fantasyland expansion that's taking place over the next 18 months or so.

Therefore everything will be taking it's turn in Fantasyland to get shut, possibly for prolonged periods so effectively there's never going to be a good time (by delaying shutting it in August it may over run and be shut for Xmas, or clash with something else and then you've multiple attractions shut at once).

I have a little fuzzy memory that I heard they are completely rebuilding the front of the building so that it has a cooler exterior. If you've seen the front of DLP or DLCA's building you'll know that the WDW isn't a patch on them. I can't remember if the plan was to put them in the same league as those two, but I know they're looking to at least beef it up.

Edit: or hmm, maybe I'm wrong. Just went to try and find where I'd heard about them changing the front and somewhere else said that IASM and Peter Pan were remaining untouched so...I dunno which is right!

I just googled those specific rides. There's a refurb list on allears but it hasn't been updated to include those yet :)

:goodvibes

Great news about the ride being closed, we are due to arrive on 22nd Aug through to 8th Sept. Means I don't get brainwashed by that song this year. :lmao:

That might explain it as I thought it had had a major refurb just before our visit last summer - it certainly looked a whole lot better last year than it had on previous visits.

Fantastic - it closes halfway through our trip. How am I going to explain to our 21 month old DD who has ridden it at the start of our trip, that she cannot ride it "gen gen gen" when it is closed later in the trip?
