We have booked our fly drive through Thomas Cook Signature to fly with Virgin. We want to book our seats but have been told we won't get our locator number until we get our tickets.

As we have 2 familes a total of 8 we all want to sit together. Has anyone else had this problem?

If you ring Virgin Atlantic direct then they can allocate your seats over the phone. :goodvibes

they should be able to find the booking on their system

when i worked for them we could allocate seats but anything else had to go through the agency as it was a 3rd party booking

You should have had some sort of confirmation from virgin - with the ref no styled:

nnnnn/S10 or nnnnn/W10 (n is a any number)

- if you have that and your flight details eg VS015 22/07/09 or whatever you can do it yourself....

You type the nnnnn/S10 into the booking ref - it usually comes back cannot find your flight, put in the details - surname, flight No , date and it should come up - so long as you are inside the 330 day window (give or take a few days sometimes.....grrr).

Well when i booked with thomas cook signature last year i had a nitemare with this. I did as most people said but when i rang virgin they said the names off the seats hadnt been released, it took me about 4 months before the flight to finally get tsc, to send the names to virgin so i could book my seats.
When i finally got a referance, their was no more seats to be able to pre book and had to wait till online check in.
Id advise you to ring tsc in the morning and ask them to release your names to virgin asap so you can get your seats sorted.
Or try virgin as people have said maybe they have changed the way it works nowadays.

Hi

I have booked with Virgin via Thomas cook. I am not going until October, I called virgin who told me I had to get Thomas cook to call as I had booked through them. Thomas cook called and they got it for me. I don't understand why they are not able to give it to you.

That's what they kept telling me too - they had to call. Until about 6 weeks before departure, all of a sudden they said they couldnt do it and it was up to me to do so. But still no number. I ended up getting an upgrade so I could choose my seats. (I was planning to upgrade anyway, but that's not the point). There is far too much inconsistency in that company (TC that is)

Still no luck.

I'll phone Going Places today and see if they can hurry it along. Fon't really want to upgrade cause that'll cost us loads for 8 of us.

Many thanks for all your help

We booked with Thomas cook and they told me that they could not book seats until the flight had been ticketed which they said would be 6 weeks before. This is a big pain only 2 of us going and we want to sit together.

Fingers crossed we get the seats we want…the 2 at the back on there own

Friends had the same problem when they booked with Jetsave. They were told they had to phone 24 hrs before flying....and of course there wasn't 8 seats together. They ended up going to the airport much earlier than needed to make sure their party of 8 was sat near one another.

The daft thing is we booked with Kenwood Travel 15 months before we went and they gave us seat numbers for there and back that day and we got the exact seats. :confused3

Virgin charge an extra fee for those seats now.

I was looking in my virgin flights that I booked through opodo to see how much it was for another bag, I noticed you could pick your seats, I booked 2 at the back, not the very back but a few from the back window/ailse, I was really pleased as I never even knew I could choose any seat.

Ya what :scared1:

do you no why?

Because they can? Believe it's 30 quid each, but don't quote me on that.

They also now have certain rows throughout the economy cabin (purple colored seats) which have 3 inches extra legroom. They charge £30 for these too, and if you haven't paid, they won't let you sit in them, even if the flight is not full.

The price varies it seems but is around £30 or so. They can't be pre-booked so if you want to grab them it's first come, first served. TBH we took them some years back with VA and they were more comfy than the PE seats we had on the outbound so you don't get the extra luggage, but from a comfort point of view it's a bargain. The food is about the same in Economy and PE anyway.

We now have our locator number but have rung Virgin and can't book the seat til 24 hours before we fly, but at least it's the same for everyone :yay:
It's going to be manic at 10:25 on the 1st August :woohoo:

Yeah you have to check in 24hrs before to do this, Im pretty sure 60% have already got their seats and your on the 40% of seats left so if your going to check in online, be on it from 8 am onwards.
I think it starts at 9 i fell into the 10.25 trap last year and their was nothing left for me to book till i got to the airport, it was a nitemare. I was then told i should start trying around 9am instead.

My seats are pre-booked but I am curious: does the suggestion of checking from 8 or 9 am apply to the flight because it is 10.25? Or if your flight is at say 2 pm, should you be checking from 8/9 am as well?
