Dining @ Palo

Having never been on a cruise before I'm trying to grab every tidbit of information I can :surfweb:

I've heard that the best time to dine at Palo is when you're in a Port because if you do it while at sea - there is nothing to see out the windows.

That said, I just checked and during Podcast Cruise 2.0 sunset is at 5:20pm in the Bahamas.

So my question is - does it really matter which day and/or what time to try to get a reservation for dinner? :confused3

Also, since we have never cruised before we can't begin to make a reservation until 75 days out - will we even be able to get one?

No answers from me.

I am pretty sure that I DO want to dine at Palo. I am looking for a table full of dining partners.

Palo dinner is wonderful. You'll want to do it if you can get a reservation, but don't think your trip will be ruined if you don't. I think you'll have so much fun with your fellow cruisers at dinner on the regular rotation (getting into trouble and earning additional asterisks), that you'd be fine either way.

As for making the reservation for when you're in port, I don't think you should focus on that too much either. The view of the ocean is beautiful from Palo regardless and, unless you end up with a table right next to the windows, it's not like you have an unobstructed view anyway.

All said, not everyone books Palo, so even as a first-time cruiser, if you are "on it" the first day you can book, I think there will be a good chance you can get a reservation. Also, they hold some reservations back for once people board. If you don't get what you want, I believe you can go there first thing and see what's available.

:wave2: So GLAD you're going on the cruise!

Thanks for the Palo info - I really don't care which day we go - I just want to get a res for any evening for dinner.
I think I'll be ok if I try and book it right at the 75 day mark - time isn't a real issue either - Dino & I enjoy eating a late dinner anyway.

Since you mentioned it, did you see what today is ????

It's the 27th :rotfl:

I don't think a month will go by that I don't smile when that date comes around

It's what I live for ... I only hope that I am up to the task at hand :rotfl2:

Oh, and I'm looking forward to Palo too

Brunch rather than dinner?

I want to make sure I get into each of the three dining rooms for dinner. I would want Palo for the dinner that would be the duplicate. But how do I know which night that would be?

Or, just do brunch instead of dinner?

Palo brunch or dinner is wonderful. Each of the three restaurants has their own charm. If you are eating late, make an early Palo dinner reservation then join your table for dinner (yes, it has been done although not much eating was done). If you can't get a reservation on-line go to Palo reservations (usually in the nightclub) when you board the ship and try and get a reservation. Also if you can book at 75 days, keep trying because plans change and things open up.

That's what we did for PCC 1.0. We had the earliest seating at Palo, had a fabulous meal, and sauntered down to the dining room around the time the appetizers were being served to our table mates, Jeff and Val. It was a great way to see the entire restaurant rotation and share the company of some stupendous DISers.:goodvibes

Did you try any of the food at the restaurant for dinner number two?

Yes, I tried part of an appetizer and part of an entree. Not that I had any room in my stomach, but I couldn't just sit there and watch people eating.

You can have our Palo reservation, we have no desire to eat there...

Not our kind of food... We are basic meat and potato folks...

It was a valiant attempt to at least try the fish. Your color returned quickly.

Oh oh - we've been spotted. I wonder how many asterisks it's possible to get from now til the cruise? It could be fun trying - LOL

hi Kevin. ;)
