What Should We Order at Captain Cook's for Lunch?

This is installment #1 of my thread series "What Should We Order at ____?" in advance of our upcoming 12-day celebration.

We are a family of 4, 2 40-something adults and 2 teenagers, all pretty adventurous when it comes to dining. We usually try to order all different things to share, so we can each taste a variety of offerings. Being very appreciative of expert advice here on The DIS, we would love to hear about your favorites at our dining venues. We will take your advice very seriously, will print out these threads and carry them with us as we travel the World. PLEASE chime in with your opinions and experiences, the more, the merrier! Oh, and feel free to suggest any items you think we should avoid, too! Of course, in return, we promise to do a full report, with pics, upon our return!

A little about this day: Captain Cook's will be our first meal of the trip; we hope to check in around 10:30, change into our swimsuits, and spend our first day re-acquainting ourselves with the Poly, enjoying the pool and the marina and (weather permitting), a pool-side lunch. (Dinner this night will be at Chef Mickey's, so we need to save room for buffet dinner).

I should mention, we will not be on the DDP (we prefer more flexibility), but do plan to purchase a TIW card at guest relations upon arrival (not that it can be used at CC's). Thanks for your input!

We loved the cheese/pepperoni flatbread.:thumbsup2 Delish! Also, the side salad was quite good as well. And of course, you can get a dole whip there too.

Another vote for the Aloha Pork sandwich...that's my DH's favorite!! Also, my son had the Stir-Fried Noodles that I snuck a bite of, and they were really good too. :thumbsup2 I've had the Grown up Grilled cheese before, but the cheese was a little strong and not to my taste.

I want to try the grilled cheese

i LOVED the grown-up grilled cheese. yummmmm:banana:

I had this in August 2006. It was VERY yummy, and I would absolutely order it again!

Yummmm, flatbread!! I love flatbreads in general. I think that might have DSs name on it; he's a cheese and pepperoni hound! What was the side salad like? Do they offer main course salads? And the Dole Whip? Yes, that's gonna happen at some point! We all prefer the pineapple/vanilla swirl. I understand that floats in pineapple juice aren't available? If that's true, we'll have to get some floats at Aloha Isle, too!

I think DD might go for the stir-fried noodles. Are they like Lo Mein? My family enjoys ALL kinds of cheese; in general, the stronger it is, the MORE we like it. I'm thinking of naming my dining report "EAT CHEESE!"

Pork sandwiches and flatbread pizzas!

:yay::yay: Aloha Pork Sandwich !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :yay::yay:

Yes, I'm DEFINITELY having one of those pork sandwiches! Sounds like DH might have to get his own, because I might not want to share too much!:lmao:

Thank you all so much for your suggestions! Please keep them coming!

I want to say they were shorter, wider noodles, but they were really good. If you like stronger cheeses, then you'd probably like the cheese sandwich. :thumbsup2

The salad was good, I think it was a mixed green one with different leaves. Probably like a spring mix? I don't remember what the dressing was though but the salad was good. The flatbread was really yummy, I'd get that again in a heartbeat!

No, they don't have the pineapple floats there. I was excited because I thought they did and when we got there, the cashier told me they don't have them. The dole whip was still good though!:goodvibes

Just remember, Captain Cooks is basically just a fast food place so don't get your expectations up too high. We weren't impressed at all. (We much prefer the Roarin Forks at WL). We thought the Turkey Sandwich was dry and we weren't that impressed with the flatbread. I don't remember if DH ever tried the Pork Sandwich. I know I didn't. Sounds like we should have! Their burgers were decent, BUT it took us quite a while to figure out that if you want a single burger it is listed on the menu as a SIDE item. The only burger on the regular menu is a double cheesburger. It is a sad state of the country when they consider a single burger a SIDE!!! Everything is ordered by computer and you order before you ever get to a live person, so if you don't want it the way it is listed on the menu, you aren't getting it. We actually found the burger when a guy next to my husband was talking about how ridiculous it was that to order a plain old burger he had to order it from the side menu.

Aloha pork sandwich with chips and a Dole Whip for dessert! The sandwich is so big that even DH couldn't finish it and we both saved half to eat later.

And of course...Dole Whips!

I wonder if the salad has an asian inspired dressing? Anyway, I imagine I'll be trying it at some point. We are considering bringing our own pineapple juice so we can make floats! We love the Dole Whips, but the floats are even better!

Multigrain Turkey Club and the dole whip self serve for dessert

The multi grain turkey club is good as well as the Aloha pork sandwich. The pork is in barbeque sauce.

DH is a big fan of turkey clubs. Maybe we'll only order one pork sandwich and one turkey club and split them.

We are aware of the set-up at Captain Cook's, thanks! The last time we stayed at the Poly, it was in a temporary location over by the Neverland Club; that's when I tried the adult grilled cheese and we grabbed breakfast there every morning. We loved it then, so we think we will like it even better now! Last trip, we stayed at WL (loved RF, too), and made a special trip over to the Poly to check out the new CC's. We thought it looked awesome, but we didn't order anything since we were on our way to Epcot for lunch. Thanks for the tips about the burgers. I doubt any of us would order them there, anyway, but it's good to know. And I agree, that is crazy and very indicative of a sad state of affairs...

I would recommend the Adult Grilled Cheese Sandwich.

:thumbsup2

Pulled pork, cheddar cheese, cucumbers, and pineapple coleslaw on a roll. Mmmmmmmmm!!!!! (Oh, and the chips are pretty good too!)

That sounds sooo yummy. Maybe I'll make some pulled pork with those fixings to get my family in the mood!

We always have grab-n-go style breakfasts in WDW, because we love to hit rope drop and have an big, early-side lunch. I'm thinking Aloha pork sandwich for breakfast!!

They're all on the list!

Thanks so much for your input, everyone!
