How should I surprise my kids with the trip?

A week after Christmas we plan to be on a Disney Cruise Ship, with a few days at WDW prior to it.

I am looking for unique and fun ways to surprise/announce our trip to our two children (6 and 8 yrs) on christmas morning?

Any ideas????

I have heard of scavenger hunts and puzzles...what did you do?????

We leave next Thursday and haven't told our DSs yet. I got them t-shirts from Zazzle that have Mickey and Pluto carrying suitcases on the front then under that it says I'm Going To Mickey's (which is how they always put it!) I'm just going to wake them up when it's time to leave and tell them they need to put those shirts on. In your case, it would be fun to just give them the shirts as Christmas gifts.

Good luck with your surprise.....it's so much fun, but much harder to hold in than I expected!!

haha... that is funny.

Seeing as it will be christmas morning though. I think I may have them open their other presents..then save the trip surprise for the last thing. Maybe have a big box..With a riddle/poem taped to the top of the box.

When they read and solve the riddle and open the box I could have some mickey balloons pop out, and inside have gifts they can use on the trip like Disney Gift Cards and t-shirts and a new swimsuit and stuff like that.

I would love to hear how others did it.

I'd like to hear ideas too.

We are surprising our kids in August with a trip. We have a 640 am flight so we will be driving to Dallas the night before and spending the night. We tend to go to Dallas once to twice a month and do this so that wont clue them in. I haven't figured out what I'm going to do when I get them up at 4 am to get ready for the flight. We will probably just let them figure it out when they see that we drive to the airport instead of home. I do have disney t shirts for both of them to wear that day. I'll have to see if that clues them in :goodvibes

Our trip is May 9-14 :cool1: and DD doesn't know yet :rolleyes1

We're staying with her greatgrands tomorrow night after our drive down to FL. I made her a binder/book with her itinerary, some gifts and some shirts that I made. After we get to the greatgrands and settle in for the night, I'll give her the binder, the gifts, EPCOT Passport and autograph book that I made and some maps to look at and we'll talk about what we're going to do, our meals, etc. She's going to be so surprised! :woohoo:

That's great Liz.

I hope she's super excited and you have a magical time.

We're surprising our DD7 with a trip to WDW and MNSSHP in October. I'm thinking of telling her we're going to visit my sister and her family in North Carolina so that is why we have to bring the cats to my parent's house. I'm hoping she won't figure out where we're going until we get to Orlando Airport.

The challenge is going to be getting schoolwork for her from her teacher without her knowing.

Assuming you keep the tree up for the week, you could say we noticed another present under the tree could you guys open it.

You could just simply put a note in it that says everyone that is in the car in five minutes is going to WDW.

Lake - I like this idea...... well it depends on what time your flight is at....

Keep them coming please. We are doing the same for DD's 11 & 9. We are leaving the 26th thru the 31st of December. We can't decide whether to have them open a present or just wait until the morning we're leaving to tell them. They've never flown and I think initially they'll be as excited about that.:)

Well, I'll tell you how my parents did it a couple of years ago. They pulled us out of school, and didn't tell us where we were going, they had the portable dvd player up with Finidng Nemo ready to go so for about 2hrs we watched Finding Nemo. We didn't figure it out until we saw the upcomig arches, and we got really excited. It was a great suprise!

I saw this idea where you get in the car and have one read the other a note. You could give DD9 the note and let her read. "DD11 you need to guess where we are going. Rright now we are going to the airport. We are going on a plane. We are going to a pennisula. It will be humid. The capital of the state where we will land is Tallahasee".... So on and so on from general to specific.

ooh!!!!! This one is good!!!!!!

Not sure if I could pull it off though. As since this trip will be the majority of the christmas gift this year, and the stuff they would open would be trip related. They wouldn't have a very momentus christmas morning.

Unless we change things up a bit, and give them a note explaining that instead of all their gifts now, that they will receive a gift a day for a week instead..and the last gift can be the trip announcement and get in the car we're heading to the airport. The big box can be what they get on the last morning. HMMMMM... that could work.

Glad you are enjoying it as well. We'll pass each other by a day. We leave January 1st.

Hello my friend.

I'm thinking about doing a late morning flight rather than really early. So this may work. Fun FUN!

So is DD still sad about no Disney. :rotfl:
can't wait to hear how she reacts to her surprise.

It is gonna be GREAT seeing thier expressions.... when i told my DD that we weren't going it broke my heart she got so sad... but won't she be surprised when we finally go... I'm still trying to figure out how or when to tell her that we actually are going.....

Can't wait to hear your story of their reaction....

Lake - I forgot to tell you yesterday she got SO MAD at me because I was on the disboards and you know how everybody has something disney related with er a pic, ticker something so she tells me "Why are you looking at that we aren't going to disneyworld" and left VERY upset....

So funny!

I was thinking that I shouldn't let DD sit with me while I "play" on the DIS anymore. After all I don't want her to read my ticker.

She likes to see all the pictures in peoples signatures, and see all the moving icons and such. I'll have to tell her no more DIS. haha
