Mobile phones in Disney

Just been looking at my mobile package and it's going to cost a fortune to keep in touch with the family/friends who are coming with us, as we will have to pay to call them and they will have to pay to receive. :grouphug:

Can anyone recommend a cheap mobile that we could purchase whilst we are there so it won't cost us much ?

We bought 3 of the LG400 NET 10s from eBay before we went. They were sent from the states, and even after postage it was cheaper than buying when we got there.
They also come with 300 free minutes for talking or texting.
We got them all charged up before we went then just followed the included instructions for activating them when we arrived.
They really proved their worth for the 3 weeks we were there as we were constantly splitting up in the parks, and we would definitely do the same again in the future.

Did u sell them on again when you got back ??
Can you reuse them on another trip ?
Do you need internet access to activate them??

Sorry for hijacking thread x x x

Hi,
we bought a couple from Walmart. I ordered online, and had them delivered to OKW so they were there when we booked in.
We found them really useful as our kids are older now, so they could go off and we could keep in touch. Also, could phone home to a landline (not a mobile) which was really useful with 2 nan's wondering what we were getting up to!!!:)
Downside was we kept getting odd texts, but DSIL explained that was because as there is no Sim, the numbers' get reused.
We thought they expired if they weren't toppod up within 60 days, but as DSIL was out there after us then her friend, then she went again; they were used for nearly 6 months!!
We were planning on doing the same this year, but DSIL is out there now, and she said she was told they can be reactivated, so will post soon when she gets back as to whether you can or not.

Which ones were they? Are they the AT&T Prepaid Samsung GoPhone A137? They are $25 at the moment. Still unsure as to what network to use, any hints? :confused3

We bought 3 AT&T sim cards on ebay before we went last year.

All we had to do was activate them online before we went (use theWDW zipcode as the US address) and fill them up with $25 credit each (we were there for 3 weeks and this gave us all the calls we needed) - you can do this online, or via phone call or with a pre-paid voucher when you get over there and pop them into some old unlocked phones we had lying around the house (or in my case swap out the sim from my iphone - as it's free to have it unlocked on O2 now!) - make sure the phones you use are at least tri-band or they won't work in the US.

AT&T seemed to have the best go phone PAYG plan - we selected one with unlimited (AT&T) mobile to moile calls for $1 a day - other calls were (as I recall) 10c a minute - so pretty reasonable.

As we were only really interested in calling each other in the USA this suited fine.

When we wanted to call home, we just purchased a $10 international calling card from Wal-Mart to use on any payphone ($10 gave us more than enough for calls home to check on elderly relatives every couple of days, and we even have some credit left for the next trip!!)

Hope that helps

Ian

We bought 2cheap mobiles from Walmart think they were $29 and they came with so many minutes(you could ring the UK but only landlines not mobiles) and so many free texts, after that you just bought a topup card like you would at home.

The assistant in Walmart was really helpful and even activated them for us.

You can also buy pre-paid phone cards which are $10 from places like walmats, walgreens etc

We bought the Net 10 ones. I've looked on their website, and it does say 'reactivate' but still not sure! They had a good offer on phones though, so it might be worth a look. As I said, I ordered online and they were waiting for us when we arrived at OKW. You just have to put your name and check in date on the address.

We've bought cheap cell phones from walmart in the past. But this year we've got a couple of sim cards from Truphone which give you a local US number so you can call using local rates in Florida, and also you have a UK number too. It seems to be the cheapest way to keep in touch with the Uk, and it's also cheap to make and receive calls over there.

If bought via quidco, you get £8 off the price of £29.95, and that includes £10 (might be $10) worth of call charges.

I'll let you all know how we get on when we've actually used them in August.

Think we might go to Walmart as that's where we're headed as soon as we get there. Hopefully the nice assistant will still be on, if I go and look pleading they might help me to :)
