Hi All,

So due to some scheduling restrictions we're going to have to do Akershus for lunch instead of breakfast. I was looking for opinions on their lunch menu. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!! :)

Thanks!!

We're doing Akershus for lunch for the first time on 5/19. The menu looks great and we can't wait to try it!

one word......YUCK!! :scared:Of course, we are not very adventurous when it comes to food!! We did lunch there one time because breakfast times were all gone.

Love the breakfast though!!

Considering it's a specific cultural type of cuisine and by your own admission you're not adventurous, is it really fair for you to say YUCK? Most reviews rave about the quality of food.

We did it for the first time last Dec. Our group enjoyed it the buffet appies were nice cheese, lunchon meats, shrimp. our group was very reserved american style eaters but everyone other then the teen daughter who needed french fries was happy. I wouild do it again for sure.

I had breakfast there and I agree....YUCK!

I was almost glad though. We were on the deluxe dining plan and over- stuffed ourselves for days. It was a nice relief to leave breakfast and not want a wheelchair carrying us around the parks for the day.

The OP was asking about lunch and PP that didn't like lunch did enjoy breakfast. What are you agreeing with?

My husband had this:

Soup and Sandwich
A Jarlsberg cheese and leek soup paired with pan-seared salmon
served open-faced on toasted multigrain bread,
lettuce, tomato and topped with a roasted garlic caper mayonnaise

He wasn't hungry at all (darn DxDDP), but he liked it a lot. I remember it being plated nicely too.

At the time when we went (Jan. 2009), there was no vegetarian option on the menu. They gave me a crappy plate of Mickey shaped cheese ravioli topped by a lackluster tomato sauce and some watery vegetables. Blech. Like I said, we weren't hungry so I wasn't overly upset about it, but it's the worst thing I've had on Disney property. (BTW - Allears is showing a vegetarian option on the menu now, so it may be good.)

The dessert sampler was just ok. Not too bad, not too good.

I will say that the "cold bar" was more extensive and appealing than I had expected. It was actually my favorite part of the meal. Lots of cold cuts, salads, cheeses and some odd fishy things that my husband enjoyed trying.

If you're going for princess interaction, it was great. They were attentive and animated. GREAT character experience; so-so food.

I have read so many times that the cold appetizer bar is the star of the meal and could be a meal by itself.

I'm ok with some more adventurous food...sometimes having the same meal time and time again can get boring so I'm always open for more of a variety..

The PP mentioned the cold appetizer bar, is that open during lunch or just dinner?

Thanks!!

It's available for both those meals. That's the best part of the restaurant in my opinion. :)

We ate there for dinner a few weeks ago and the menu is slightly different but my dad and I had the salmon plate and I see they have a salmon sandwich. Our salmon plate was yummy! My mom and husband had the kojattkake and they really liked it. They both said they were like spicy meatloaf.

Honestly, I could have filled up on the appetizer buffet. It was super yummy - shrimp, cheese, bread, etc.

As your posts indicate, you have a lot of opinions!! So why am I not entitled to mine????? :confused3 The OP asked for opinions.....I think it's fair to say opinions have been given.

I stick with YUCK! But did like the breakfast! :goodvibes

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. My comment was specific to you stating you are not adventurous. You can choose to dislike anything you want, but I stick with my opinion that if you are closed minded, maybe you shouldn't stray from food you're familiar with. I also stick with my statement that it's not fair for you to disway someone from eating somewhere when "again by your own admission" you don't like anything out of "your" norm.

We were there for lunch in January '09 and January '10, and we thought the quality of the food improved greatly from the first trip to the 2nd.

So had I not specified that I wasn't adventurous, you would have had no difficulty with my statement? By adding that I wasn't adventurous, I made it clear to take my post as you like. Closed minded????? Don't like anything out of my norm??? You don't know me! We tried something quite different, didn't like it....end of story!!! Asked an opinion, I gave mine! Perhaps you should hold on to yours a little better unless you can be a little kinder in your reply. In all the times I have been on these boards, this is the first time I encountered anyone as rude as you.

OP.....sorry that your question has declined into this "discussion". :sad2: Please, go to all the different places you would like to visit. Take all opinions lightly & knowing that everyone will have a different opinion! Use your own judgment.....it will be best! You know your family & what they will like. :goodvibes

I am not the poster you are arguing with, but I will say that a post that simply says "Yuck" is not that constructive. I actually appreciated that you said you're not adventurous. It kind of qualifies your "yuck" and gives a bit more information as to why you might have arrived at the "yuck" conclusion. If I were the OP, I *think* I'd like to know what you found to be "yuck" (but I don't *know* because I'm not the OP ....)

I am not the posting police, but I had that thought and so I'm throwing it out there.

Truthfully, most folks don't RAVE about the food at Akershus. Since the OP is going to try it out, it might help if people steer them to or away from certain dishes. Taste is a very subjective thing. One person's "yuck" is another person's "yum". Sometimes. And sometimes "yuck" is just "yuck". But you know what I mean.

That is all.

*crossing my fingers I don't regret posting this*
*also thinking the massive doses of allergy medicine are affecting my judgment*

We had lunch at Akershus and enjoyed the food very much. My daughter had a pasta dish which was small but tasty. My husband raves about his salmon sandwich. I enjoyed the mutton stew, though it was a bit heavy. The cold buffet was a meal in itself, and several other members of the party really enjoyed the kjottkake, which are like giant meatballs with mashed potatoes and asparagus.

The desserts were also delicious. The chocolate mousse and school bread were universally popular. Only dh liked the rice pudding, but the rest of us always hate rice pudding, so no surprise there.

Actually, our unpopular opinion about Akershus is that the princesses are vaguely creepy. (Which is not a personal reflection on the CMs, but rather a reflection on our inability to suspend disbelief with face characters.)

If they'd lose the princesses, we'd happily eat lunch there again. :rotfl:

I have been there 4x times for lunch and we enjoy it. My husband loves the spicy meatloaf thing, my MIL thinks the salmon is great and I have had the chicken dishes (BBQ, the open face sandwich and one other thing). And yes we love the cold bar because if you have kids you can get a plate of food in them fast before they start seeing the Princess (and then trying to get my kids to eat is nearly impossible). I think you will enjoy it

Wow....I was initially a bit concerned regarding the food choices but I'm feeling much better about us going there now. For some reason I had no idea that the appetizer bar was available during lunch, I thought it was only there for dinner -- I'm excited to try all of the food. Thanks again to everyone for sharing their opinions of the food -- both good and bad :) it was a great help!
