Spring "What are you reading?" Book Thread

My recent reads have been The Shack which was excellent and Evermore which was good. Evermore is a tween version of the Twilight series. I liked Twilight much better though. I am currently reading the sequel to Evermore but the name escapes me. (I am at work) Thanks to everyone for their suggestions though. I am always looking for a new book to read!

I recently read Mirror Mirror(Pretty good,I like Gregory Maguire though) and LOVED The Art of Racing in the Rain! Story told by the the family dog,and I love anything that involves dogs!!

I love dog books too! I read Merle's Door: Lessons from a Freethinking Dog a year or so ago and it was very good. Dog stories never end well though. I'm usually sobbing at the end like with Marley and Me. Soo good but so sad.

I just finished Fannie Flagg's Daisy Fay and the Miracle Man --what an amazing book! I have loved every book I've read by her (I think I've read all of them now)--but I have to say that this one was the best!

I'm now reading Harlan Coben's Caught --I usually like his books too, and so far, it's good.

I just bought The Help , and I'll read that one next. :thumbsup2

Is this one new???

Yes, it's his latest hardcover. I don't usually read his series with the sports reporter (I think that's what he is) and only stick with his other books--although they seem to have mostly the same theme---a person had something bad happen to them in their past (they sometimes remember, sometimes have to be reminded), someone comes back from their past, something happens that makes absolutely no sense to the reader, the main character teams up with someone and they are usually accused of doing something horrible to someone else--then it's all worked out at the end and the person is vindicated.

But, like I said, I usually like his books! ;)

I'm about a third thru The Known World by Edward P. Jones. It's set in the 1800's in Virginia and the story is about black slave owners. Liking it so far, very interesting topic that I've never read about before.

I'm reading The Brightest Star in the Sky by Marian Keyes, I LOVE her! I usually read her books in a few days, but this one is taking me a while because I just don't have a lot of time to read right now. She doesn't have a bad book, she is fantastic!

Also anything by Alice Hoffman is great, she wrote Practical Magic, the book they turned into the movie a few years ago. Her books always have some kind of magical element to them, I love them! :)

Just finished "My Life in France" by Julia Child. I really enjoyed it. Sad to think, though, that she never got to read the finished version - it was completed by her husband's great-nephew after she passed away.

I read a good dog book a year or so ago. Believe it was The Guardian by Nicholas Sparks. At least I think it was that one.

I like Alice Hoffman too. She is one of my 'guilty pleasure' authors in some ways but her writing style and attention to detail is just amazing. Her books are beautifully written.

A book that I read recently and really enjoyed is American Wife: A Novel by Curtis Sittenfeld.

Really enjoyed this story of Alice, a normal girl from the midwest who finds herself as First Lady. She is an only child of a small-town banker, and she is raised by her parents and her paternal grandmother. While in high school she is involved in a tragic automobile accident, and this event has profound effects on her entire life. Even though this book is about a First Lady, there is very little talk of politics and campaigning. The story is about Alice and her life.

Well, let's see, time for an update. I'm now on A Clash of Kings by Goerge R.R. Martin, which is excellent. On the iPod we have Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen. In between I read Changes by Jim Butcher...which made me laugh out loud a good many times.

I finished Lord of Chaos by Robert Jordan this afternoon. I can't believe how this guy comes up with these things. I am enjoying this series immensely.

But have to take a break and next book on the stack is This Matter of Marriage by Debbie Macomber.

I'm reading the second book in the previously mentioned Flavia de Luce mysteries by Alan Bradley: "The Weed that Strings the Hangman's Bag". Very good so far!

I'm about to read another A. Lee Martinez book -- I've read four of them, but finally got the first of the bunch "Gil's All Fright Diner." They're sci-fi but very humorous (semi "black comedy" vein). I think my favorite so far was "A Nameless Witch".

I'm on the waiting list for the latest book of the Dresden Files. :thumbsup2

One author I really really like is Judith Merkle Riley. She has a number of books, but my favorite is the Margaret of Ashbury three book series (sometimes mistakenly shelved as a romance). It's a historical medieval-setting novel that's more adventurous from the point of view of this "simple" woman given the ability to heal after surviving the plague. But it's quite tongue in cheek, humorous, and pretty matter of fact of the corruption of the time (and the society a woman had to survive in) while being easy to read. The first one, "A Vision of Light," is important to read to understand the progression, but the second is the best written and full of wonderful details (and even romantic): "In Pursuit of the Green Lion."

I just finished "While My Sisitr Sleeps" by Barbara Delinsky and Avolon High by Meg Cobat. Both were wonderful.

I'm currently reading " The Shack " and I'm not loving it...

I recently read a few books I really enjoyed.

"The Autobiography of an Execution"
"The Poisonwood Bible"
and
"The Help"

Well, I started This Matter of Marriage and realized that I have already read it. So, I've decided to read Disclosure by Michael Crichton. Hope that I haven't read it also!

I just started "Green Witch" last night. So far I am enjoying it. The writing just flows - it is hard to put down!!!!:)

next will be "Kingdom Keepers 3" - as soon as my DD12 is done. It must be good, she is whipping right through that one!!!!!!

Done with Disclosure by Michael Crichton. I realized halfway through the book that I have read this one also. But I liked it enough to finish it again. An easy read, made just for the beach/pool side.

My mom bought Just Take My Heart by Mary Higgins Clark the other day. She is letting me read it first so that's what I am going to do next.

Any recommendations for a good biography of Walt's life? Barnes & Noble had a few on the shelves and I saw many on Amazon, but I just couldn't decide.
