Pinkcow's DCL Wedding 12/8/09..... 1 Year Later!

I'm loving your trip report! That photo scavenger hunt turned out so great! We were thinking about having our roommate put together one for around the Boardwalk for our guests to do on rehearsal day, but it looks like most people will be doing their own thing then.
Oh, and Disney calls them Pargos because that is a brand name of golf carts, it's as if you call them tissues and I call them Kleenex (which I happen to usually do lol, I also call them Pargos because, well, I work at WDW :rotfl: )

I like the Patriots and support them... but the Red Sox will always have my heart!

Fabulous pictures from Pirate night.:thumbsup2 What a perfect end to the day, fireworks.:cloud9:

I agree! There's no better way to end it! :lovestruc

Sorry but it must be said...Geaux Saints!!!!!! but I do love your trip report..lol

The Vikings lost, shucks! Thanks for reading along!

Pargo mystery solved! :yay: The photo scavenger hunt was so much fun, if you do get a chance to do one it's well worth it!

Totally understood! Now, I can't support those pesky Colts, so as much as I hate to admit this I might be with disneediva! :rotfl:

While we're still on TR intermission, I just got back from a week in Houston at the Halloween and Party Expo. While there I discovered a new line of costumes created by Leg Avenue for adults. It's an "exotic" take on the Disney Princesses. Not all are on the site yet from what I could tell, but here is a link.

loving your pics esp. from the photo hunt and pirate night. I have combined the two for our guests at our VR and have created a resort quasi pirate photo scavenger hunt!:goodvibes looks like a lot of fun.....:goodvibes

Ok, so this is where I have no idea where the day went! We had breakfast and met Goran at 11:00 to pick up our proofs. We went back to our cabin and spent a good while looking through everything. We chose the prints we wanted, and were told that we should have them the next morning.

We met our family out by the pool, and eventually got lunch. It was seafood day I think, and this made me really excited because good seafood is hard to come by in MN! I was super excited about the New England clam chowder, but was disappointed when I discovered it was really New York style. Bleech! My New England favs were missing in action, but hey I got some seafood!

We played a round of bingo, and lost horribly! Then, we had our spa treatment, which was nice.

Dinner was at Triton's. This day went Poof!

Here’s our door at the end of the day-
door.jpg

We got up and met everyone at the designated time in Tritons. This is everyone except for my Dad, Stepmom, and littlest sis. The poor girl had to go to school! We tried to convince her that to compensate for this, she was to be sure to tell all of her friends she was on DCL THIS MORNING!

Breakfast was bittersweet, we reminisced about the great trip, and DH and I showed all of the pictures we picked up from Shutters earlier in the morning. At the end, there were hugs all around as we disembarked the ship.

DH’s family had arranged for a van to pick them up at the port and drop them at MCO. All were on the same flight back to Boston. My Dad picked up my side of the family in the “Redneck Limousine” and went back to his house.

Here we set aside items we wanted shipped back, checked the internet, and made some phone calls to those who were not able to attend.

DH has this ongoing thing with manatees. When we first started dating, I lived in an apartment in Fort Lauderdale that directly overlooked the New River. I would see manatees constantly (and um lots of other interesting things….), and every time he would come over the manatees would mysteriously disappear like they were playing a game! We would sit on the porch for hours looking at the river and not see a single manatee. The second he would get up to get something, or look away, a manatee would pop up! It was like clockwork! During that whole time he never saw one manatee! He was pretty bitter about it…

My Dad’s house is on a canal. While we were chatting with family, a manatee surfaced, and DH got clear view of it! It was the first time he had ever seen a manatee not in an aquarium! That was pretty touching.

(Insert bad iPhone photo here..)

It was soon time to say goodbye. Hugs all around, and let the honeymoon begin!

That's SO awesome!!!! :goodvibes Oh, I can't wait to see what fun you have!! popcorn::

We said goodbye to our family and hit the ground running in the Dolorian. We arrive at GF at about 2:00, which we thought would be a good amount of time get our laundry done (we had nearly all of it to do) and head over to MVMCP. MVMCP was a last minute decision for us, and we had tickets in hand.

We grab our bags and head to the front desk to check in, but our room is not ready. Really? I tell the girl that I’m expecting a floral delivery from an outside vendor. She said something about a queue area until our room was ready and brushes it off. There was no mention of the giant bridal ears or "Just Married" pins we were wearing, and she was kind of short with us. I'm going to chalk it up to the fact that she was "Earning her Ears". No matter.

We bring the luggage we brought with us back to our car and eventually head up to the monorail to go to the Contemporary for lunch while we wait for the text message to let us know our room was ready.

We made a series of mistakes at GF. The first was the decision not to have our car valeted and luggage portered. We were naive in thinking we would be able to park near our room and do it ourselves. Instead we parked across the street from the lobby, and it was a hike to the guest rooms. Bad mistake number two was not doing laundry at my Dad’s. We felt really awkward in our “laundry day” outfits walking around GF. See later story involving luggage woman.

Bad mistake number three was not getting floral directly through Disney. I had purchased a bouquet for DH through Proflowers, as the price was good and I liked the arrangement better overall. To skip ahead a bit, we got into our room after eating and hitting the arcade at about 4:30. There was no floral in the room, or a message stating that my packaged had arrived. I brushed it off and we got ready for MVMCP. There was nothing again when we returned from the park. So, the next morning I say I’m going to look for breakfast, but actually head to the front desk to ask about the flowers. They look and have no record of the flowers, whaa? I have an e-mail that confirms they were delivered the day before at noon. So they make a series of phone calls and trips to the back to see if they could be located. Not so much. Finally they call over to the convention center, and the flowers are there. I walked over to the convention center, and walk around a bit before finally seeing the business office. The guy in the office was helping three people at the same time, so it took a bit of time for him to get to me. He then charges what I’m calling a “ransom” fee to actually take the flowers with me. I can’t remember what the fee was, but I was seriously pissed I had to go through all this and then pay a fee. I should have talked to a manager, but it had been forever since I left the room. When I got back DH wasn’t even able to open the flower box, as we needed to check out and go to OKW.

To add insult to all of this, before MVMCP, DH and I were walking around the grounds, and there was a well-dressed woman with tons of luggage around her. She had flagged down a man in a pargo, who said he could not call a porter for her. She was clearly upset by this. She sees DH and myself, and says “Maybe these people can take my luggage.” As we walk by, she goes, “Oh, I guess they are guests.” Yup. That just happened.

We also discovered that evening that the walls at GF are not so thick, as a newborn from down the hall was crying just as we put our heads down for the night.

Ok, so now that I have all the unpleasantness out of they way, let’s get to the good stuff shall, we? :cool1:

I had paid for a garden view, but instead we get this view!!!!

We were in the Big Pine Key building. The room was huge! Complete with a phone in the bathroom!

GF is gorgeous no doubt about it. It also has some great amenities, and the turn down service was wonderful. We decided it was not so much our personal style after our experiences, so I doubt another visit will be in the future. In vast contrast, we LOVED our time at Old Key West.

Oh you should have made them get the flowers and bring them to you! OMG...I would have been mad.

Looks like you got a good room and I can't wait to hear all about MVMCP!

Just got caught up! I am loving everything! The photo scavenger hunt turned out so great. Can't wait for more!

Thanks for following along! :goodvibes More good stuff on the way!

Oh you should have made them get the flowers and bring them to you! OMG...I would have been mad.

Looks like you got a good room and I can't wait to hear all about MVMCP!

I was actually really mad, and when I told DH about it he was too. We felt like we were spoiled on DCL, so what's up GF! :lmao:

The room was gorgeous, the beds were super comfy, and the scenery was awesome. It was also great to be on the monorail. That really helped overcome the other stuff that happened. :goodvibes

We were so excited to see MVMCP! We get off the monorail, to not what else? A torrential downpour. Boo! We were soaked. What happended to December being the dry season? :lmao: Luckily this was a passing storm so it didn't crimp our style too much!

We headed to our traditional starting point: It's a Small World. :cool1:

This time we noticed something strange on the ride-

farve.jpg

Was It's a Small World catching Viking fever? :rotfl:

I explained to DH about the unlimited nature of the pre-paid photopass CD, with that information in hand we started our assualt on the photopass photographers!

We went to Toontown to see who else we might be able to get a picture with. You might be asking yourself, and yes we are the biggest kids ever!! So we got in line for the Fairies Meet & Greet. This line took FOREVER! It seemed that once we made headway and we were almost there, there was another room and another line. We missed the fireworks, which made me grumpy! However Tink and her friends were very nice.

tink.jpg

Tink also loved that my "Lost Thingy" was green!

tinkring.jpg

On our way out we had a surprise visit with Perla, or was it Suzy??

mvmcp4.jpg

We did manage to see the Christmas parade and Castle Lighting Show-

mvmcp5.jpg

mvmcp6.jpg

We also hit up all of our favs like Pirates of the Carribbean, Big Thunder Mountain, Haunted Mansion etc. etc. We had one last surprise with one of the Country Bears, hot cocoa and cookies in hand-

mvmcp3.jpg

Pretty soon we were dead on our feet, so it was time to head home to the Grand Floridian. :)

Up Next: Old Key West

We left GF and headed over to Old Key West! From the moment we walked in the lobby all of the CM’s were warm and welcoming, and very congratulating. At one point during our check in everyone was clapping for the newlyweds! Our check-in agent found a room for us that he called “Water, Water, Nice, Nice!” Yes, Yes, Please, Please!

We also bought tickets at the concierge. The concierge noticed the reservation was still under my maiden name. She changed it, and gave me new room keys with my new name on it! First time in print!

We arrived at building 55, and here is what we saw-

okw1.jpg

okw7.jpg

I really don’t have any pics of the inside of the room; however it was very roomy, had a kitchenette, large bathroom, and table and chairs. I was in love! I’ve had apartments smaller than and not nearly as nice as this!

Here’s a pic of the balcony and view-

okw8.jpg

okw9.jpg

This was really the way to go. I don’t believe we’ll ever visit again without staying at a DVC resort. We loved the fact that we could reheat leftovers, had a fridge and could even do dishes if we wanted to.

One of the other great features was the pool and hot tub steps outside our door-

okw4.jpg

okw2.jpg

By the pool was a small laundry building. The best part… it was free! Halleluiah! We made use of the pool while our laundry was going, then headed over to Epcot!

Up Next: Epcot

We left OKW and headed over to Epcot where the extra magic hours were going on. It was getting seriously chilly and we made the decision to get new sweatshirts at the first opportunity. We did however stop and get some pics at the front entrance-

xImage0073.jpg

xImage0065.jpg

xImage0076.jpg

We went to Mouse Gears, and there definitely seemed to be a run on cold weather accessories! We did however manage to get some new digs.

After this we headed over to the World Showcase. First up, Canada! I had tried and tried and tried to get a reservation at Le Cellier to no avail. The closest I came was a 9pm reservation on the day we left.. at 3pm. :confused3 What to do? Turn to the DIS! I read that you could get pretzel bread and cheddar cheese soup to go without a reservation, yipee! So I ask the outside hostess if we could do this, and she says only if there's an available server. We walk inside the lobby and ask again, and there's a server willing to help us out! We waited about 5 mins, and voila! We have an order to go! We also chatted with the host inside the restaurant who gave us the recipe for cheddar cheese soup. A few weeks later DH made the recipe which did come out delicious!

We found a park bench and ate up the pretzel bread and soup. Next time we are at WDW I'm definitely going to up my stalking skills so we can get a real live reservation.

Up next was UK, where I had hoped to find my new family crest, but not so much luck.

We wandered around to Japan, where we did pick-a-pearl. I was lucky and got a fairly large one! I chose to have it set in a silver ring, which came out cute. We wandered around Japan quite a bit.

We then went to America where the Candlelight Processional was going on. We didn't get tickets to this event, but stood outside and listened to the music anyways. I believe Andy Garcia was the host that evening.

We wandered some more waiting for my ring to be ready and somehow wound up in France...

xImage0114.jpg

xImage0123.jpg

After that we went back to Future World and got in line to see Mickey and his friends;

xImage0078.jpg

xImage0085.jpg

xImage0093.jpg

xImage0102.jpg

We also hit up the Cool Station and sampled lots of different sodas from around the world. I think the one from South Africa was my favorite.

It was about this time we started looking for some dinner. DH suggested a burger, and after all the rich food we’d been enjoying I exnayed this pretty quickly. So we went back to the World Showcase. We finally decided upon Japan, and went up to the Yakatori House. I got the California roll, which was perfect for me. DH got the shogun special and a cup of hot sake. Illuminations started as we were sitting down to eat. You couldn’t see the show from the Yakatori house, but certainly hear it.

After dinner we went to Norway and did Maelstrom. We met a family who gave us great advice to tell people when the inevitable question, “So, when are you going to have a baby” comes up. Their response, “Well, we’re only 5 minutes and 9 months away.” :rotfl2:

We also went to Mexico and did the three caballeros boat ride. It started raining, so the ponchos came out again. From here we went to the Seas with Nemo, which was really cute. Finally was the ride inside the giant golf ball, whose name escapes me. It had been refurbished since the last time we went, and we thought the upgrades were really great.

A few more pictures and it was time to hit the hay.

xImage0110.jpg

xImage0135.jpg

Up Next: Hollywood Studios and our mad dash to Tampa

We made arrangements to see DH's grandmother in Tampa, do Hollywood Studios, AND Yachtsman Steakhouse in one day. Seems impossible, or maybe just downright crazy, right? :upsidedow Let's find out!

We started the day at Hollywood Studios, not quite at rope drop but pretty darn close. We headed directly to Toy Story Mania. TSM was a ball and DH kicked my butt! We liked it so much we bought TSM for Wii afterwards.

We got in a few more Photopass pics.

xImage0168.jpg

We walked around for a bit, then got in the Dolorian and made our heading for Tampa. I had downloaded the directions on my iPhone through the MapQuest app. Apparently I wasn't paying attention to how low my battery was getting, and about 3/4 of the way there my phone dies! :scared1: Since I wasn't paying attention I didn't write down the directions or memorize them, so suddenly we were high and dry! :scared1: I asked DH to find a Starbucks, McD's anything so I could charge for 5 mins, write down the directions and be on our way. But in typical guy fashion he decides to forge ahead! :scared: :scared: :scared: DH hands me his phone, which was not working for me in the least bit. Clenched teeth and a dozen wrong turns later we find DH's grandmother's house. Whew!

DH's mom unfortunately passed away when he was a small child. So, it was really wonderful to sit and hear stories about her. I also got to meet one of his uncles. The four of us went out and had a great lunch.

okw17.jpg

All too soon it was time to say goodbye. We got back in the Dolorian at about 4pm. The whole way we questioned to as if the Dolorian was going to make it! It was shaking terribly! We did make it back to the gates, yahoo! We go directly back to HS, and try to hit as much as possible. By this time it was about 6pm.

We get in line to see Woody and Buzz, and make complete kids out of ourselves!

xImage0183.jpg

Our favorite part of HS was Osborne Family Spectacle of Lights

xImage0209.jpg

We really enjoyed watching the lights, listening to the music, and seeing the faux snow.

HS closed at 8pm that evening, but somehow we had wondered around until almost 8:50. Oh crap!!! We have a 9:20 dinner ressie at Yachtsman!!! Unbelievably we made it back to our room at OKW in almost no time flat. Here is what was waiting for us-

okw10.jpg

So sweet!

We made the quickest change of our lives, and headed right back out the door. We arrived at Yachtsman on time. Our table wasn't quite ready so we enjoyed what we could see of Illuminations.

I ordered the scallop appetizer and the filet mignon. DH had the cowboy steak and truffle mac and cheese. It was very good. I've never had a better steak. I wish I could say I ate it all, but not even close. We were both beyond stuffed. This was very much a splurge, but oh so worth it.

We went back to our room and crashed. We made it through the day! :woohoo:

Up Next: Our last hurrah!

DH and I were so sad this was all coming to an end! We both completely agreed that this was the best trip ever.

We got up, did all of our laundry, and started packing. and packing. and packing. We somehow managed to get all of our stuff in the same four bags we came down with. However this was no easy task by any means. It took hours as everything had to be strategically placed, and stuffed!

We had wanted to go to Raglan Road for lunch, but wound up with not as much time as we would have liked. We opted for Cooke's of Dublin instead. Oh was this delicious! I had the deep fried scallops and DH had chicken n' chips. I so severely wanted to finish off every morsel of my scallops, but could not. It was VERY good!

We had an uneventful trip to the airport. The Dolorian went back home, and we were thankful she just made it! We get checked in, and find that our flight is delayed.. ugh. But, the bright side is that my Dad actually works at MCO and we were able to chat with him for a while. After my Dad goes back to work, we stopped at Outback for a drink.

sm.jpg

He looks so happy to be going back to the snow! Actually, we had heard through the grapevine that a major snowstorm had come through. :sad1:

The flight was fine, and did not end up being so late. The temps were hovering around zero, with the wind-chill much colder. :sad1: We cheaped out and decided to take the light rail rather than a cab home. BAD idea!!! Did we bring coats with us? Nope. Was the light rail sardine packed and standing room only? Yes! Not only that there was a Disney-hating drunk snogging all over his GF while simultaneously falling on us and my bouquet! To add to this when we finally got off and had to walk home, one of the wheels on our larger bags broke. :headache: So, to all you future brides, avoid public transportation!

Well, we were home, and were able to see our kitties! Time to reflect and get ready for Christmas!

Up Next: The Monday Morning Quarterback Review

I’m not going to do a vendor review, because well, there just weren’t enough of them. Instead, I’m going to do a Monday Morning Quarterback Review.

Under the “You Live and Learn” file

  • Don’t wear super sticky lip gloss outside in the wind! I made this mistake and all through the ceremony my hair kept sticking to my lip gloss. Not very attractive!
  • I had purchased flower wands for the bridesmaids well ahead of time. They came out gorgeous. However, they did not have the same look as the rest of the floral that day. They also got beat up in shipping from the seller to my home, to my sister’s, then to the boat. I keep looking at the pictures and wishing I had more consistency in the floral.
  • The Grand Floridian. It has an excellent reputation, but for us it fell flat on our expectations.
  • A meet and greet at 2:00 for our family on cruise departure day. I’m not sure if it was just too early, or a logistical nightmare, but no one (including DH and I) showed at the Promenade Lounge for various reasons.
  • The water taxi from port to Atlantis on Paradise Island, takes a long, long time to get going if there’s not enough people on the boat. Keep in mind there’s also some walking involved. If you are running on limited time, maybe not so much the way to go. Otherwise, the views from the boat were gorgeous!

Things I would do over and over!
  • The cruise itself! I’m going to go further into detail as to why this was the best wedding ever (ok, we may be biased!), but you give me a chance at a spot on DCL again, and hecks yes!
  • The photo scavenger hunt. This was really a highlight of the whole trip. It brought everyone together, we all had a blast, and there are now lots of incriminating photos!
  • The Castaway Cay ceremony. Being the cheapo depot that I am I would have rather had the ceremony on Deck 7 based solely on the cost. However, we had too many people, and we weren’t thrilled with having it indoors at the Cadillac Lounge. Having now done it now, there’s no question that Castaway Cay was the way to go for us. The scenery was just incredible, and the experience is once in a lifetime. Everyone on the island waved and wished us congratulations as we went by. There’s nothing like getting married with your toes in the sand. There are so many more opportunities for photography. Plus, you get back on the boat, and have pictures taken there as well! Was it worth the extra $1k? Yes sir!
  • Ladies tea at the Grand Floridian. We made sundresses and big hats a ticket to entry! This was a lot of fun, and not overly expensive considering other options.
  • I’ve said this before, but Old Key West was by far our favorite accommodations. We loved the fact that we had a kitchenette, our room was huge, and it was quiet. Our next stay will certainly be at a DVC resort.
  • Atlantis! Oh yes we would go again! Aquaventure was just amazing. We could easily make an entire vacation by solely staying on Atlantis property, and many do!

The Monday Morning Quarterback Review

When we first got onboard there was an issue with our onboard credit. We both threw our hands in the air, and wondered if this was going to be the beginning of a disastrous cruise. As it turned out the issue was our TA’s, and was very quickly rectified. This, thankfully, was the last time we had such thoughts.

We met with Imran and he really helped quell many of our fears and concerns. He was really great with everything. He did everything he said he was going do, which says a lot.

Ok, I never thought I would say this in a trillion years, but going on a four day vacation with our entire family, was absolutely incredible. It was so great to see a familiar face at every turn. It was particularly wonderful because we never get to see our family. Even more surprisingly everyone got along, and both sides of our family were like old friends by the end of the cruise.

There’s something to be said about no one deciding where to go for dinner, how we’re going to get there, when to meet, who’s invited, and only to be exaggerated by family members who do not get along. blah. blah. blah. With the cruise, everyone knew where we were going to eat for the evening, and there were no deviations. Everyone even got exactly what they wanted to eat. We have several family members with specific food allergies, and this was a non-issue. Dinner became our central meeting place, the time to talk about what we did for the day, have a great meal and some fun. I really feel like we had four receptions, which was every night at dinner.

The amount of time we had with everyone was wonderful. A ha! We trapped them on a boat for four days, now they can’t leave, Muhahaha! Actually, there is some truth to this. If we had a traditional wedding, we might get everyone together for a few hours, dancing, and then kisses. We were really able to spend some quality time with all of our guests, and it was truly a vacation.

The ceremony was great. It was a bone of contention in the planning process that there was little control over the ceremony text. The minister chatted with DH for a bit prior, and talked about the ceremony elements. I’m glad this happed, so that the minister got to know a little bit more about us. The ceremony did go off without a hitch. It wasn’t too long either.

Palo was very nice for a reception. It was short and sweet. Had we done dancing I’m sure it would have been longer.

If I have a recommendation for a future bride that is to make sure you set aside some time, but not a lot, to do a group activity outside the wedding. The photo hunt was the turning point in our trip where no one felt awkward, everyone knew “that guy’s” name, and brought the whole group together for a common goal. We also had a ton of laughs along the way! You might do an excursion, an interactive show, or bridal shower games.

If you haven’t seen the video montage of the photo hunt, check it out here-
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=44DJXrmIbwE
Anytime I need a pick-me-up, I watch this!!

At the end of the cruise, DH and I had a chance to reflect. We loved the fact that there were surprises in our cabin every night. Most of the cast members had gone well out of their way to do anything for us. We felt like royalty, or at least not-so-distant cousins of the queen mum! There was everything already stated above. We were 100% certain in our minds that this was better for us than an Escape wedding. There were no longer any doubts. We had the time of our lives, and nothing, absolutely nothing could have been better.

I wanted to include some snapshots that didn’t fit anywhere else, in no particular order-

Again, everything was so beautiful. I loved your reflection and am glad you and DH had such a magical time. It looked like a really fun wedding to be at :goodvibes
